« on: December 06, 2012, 11:07:31 AM »
Anyone have experience with who has the best full after market floor pan?

I was looking at Steve's Camaro's Floor pan made by Dyna-core and it has the brackets and appears to look correct...

Matts has this one:

Restoration / need advice on doing a correct show car Camaro restoration
« on: September 28, 2012, 05:53:13 AM »
;D Hello everyone:  Yes I am back, too many tours, & too much time has past and now with my Camaro's I must get-er done... but where did I leave off???  :o

Anyways my days as US Army Paratrooper are coming to an end and I may now (hopefully) be able to continue and complete my Camaro restoration projects...  (and finally attend a national show with my Camaro and share in the fun).

So I am looking to you guys to help and advise me on what to read, what to consider, what to do and not do, paint and plating finishes, where to purchase, etc, etc, for restoring my car to the correct show car level.  As a younger man I used to be a mechanic and a drag racer so I believe I can still do all of those mechanical parts... but advice is still welcome.  One thing I have realized is that the auto technology is pretty advanced now but some parts are not as good as OEM and it maybe not be easy to do this or find the parts.... But I am shooting for the OEM restoration Show car if budgets allow me.... I think I would have one of you subject matter experts do my car for me and take out the guess work on my part but I think doing the resto yourself is the best part, (I hope I don't regret saying this..LOL  ;D)....  Also I know very little about trailers and that end of it...  so I hope this thread will start off from the basics, work through the car from start to finish.  In the mean time I will continue to read CRG and learn...  I have stored my BB Camaros for years...time has flown by so quickly...but i am doing this for the love of these cars and hopefully I'll be able to drive my Camaro s again.

Thanks,  SFC GI JOE   :)

What I need to know is everything I should do to restore it back to OEM operational and show car level...

Restoration / radiator supports
« on: September 28, 2012, 05:07:57 AM »
Can anyone tell me if the 1968 Pontiac Firebird (FB) radiator support is the same as the 1968 Camaro's support?
Also are there any differences between BB and SB supports?

Should I find a used OEM one or are the re-pops worth it? I got a lead on a clean FB support...

Thanks for the help.  It takes a Camaro community to raise a (hopefully) great show car.  ;D LOL  J:OE

Restoration / Are the any differances in sub frames?
« on: September 05, 2012, 06:15:36 AM »
Are there any differences in sub frames?  I have a 68 L78 car late production with a bent frame... I have access to a 69 fire-bird frame... but the mounts are rusted out...  I was thinking of sand blasting the fire-bird frame, fixing (welding up) the mount areas and transfer all the other stuff to the fire-bird main frame.... Any suggestions? I really hate to not use the OEM frame... it is in better shape but she is bent and I am unsure if it is worth straightening.

Also I was wondering how to get that factory OEM frame paint color.... to many of the restored cars appear to glossy to me...

Any suggestions are welcome...  I need to do this correctly the first time...  Thanks JOE

« on: November 09, 2011, 02:03:35 AM »
This ad on eBay is a re-stamped 499 dist being sold as an original GM. Straight out Fraud and if they disagree they can sure try and sue me. I fight back and win! These kind of crooks have damaged our hobby so now let the good guys know who they are.   >:(

Restoration / BB harmonic balancer
« on: August 31, 2011, 01:22:59 AM »
The machine shop says my harmonic balancer is likely no good because the rubber is rock hard.

Is there anything I can do or should I just get a new one?

DO they even have correct 8" harmonic balancers anymore from GM?  Any advice is appreciated.  GI Joe

PS also looking for a correct 68-69 BB oil pan.

General Discussion / 06A Z28 Vin stamp on eng pad???
« on: August 30, 2011, 07:15:00 AM »
Did I miss something on engine VIN stamps for cars after 12c???  I thought all VINs were stamped on the oil filter boss following 12C Norwood built cars... Please look at this ebay sellers photos.  Is that a valid z28 engine stamp?  I bet not but what do I know?  :-\

General Discussion / we need to stop the fraud on ebay -
« on: August 28, 2011, 11:56:04 PM »
I have been thinking of doing something about the fraud being sold on eBay...  for example:  This Camaro is being advertised as a L78 Convertible and after reading 2 pages of crap you find out it is not even an SS let alone an L78... and asking $50k....

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trksidZp3984Q2em1423Q2el2649QQitemZ320748528866QQsspagenameZSTRKQ3aMEWAXQ3aIT

and it is not just the fake cars, it also the fake parts!  Until ebay is forced to do something about false advertising the crooks will continue to have a field day  >:(

You cannot rely on ebay even if you report the fraud.   So I am hoping that if enough of us put our heads together we can come up with some ideas on how we can stop this or something...

I am willing and able... any ideas?

PS i forgot to mention all the fake documents being sold too that are also polluting our hobby...

General Discussion / inspection markings database
« on: August 24, 2011, 07:46:14 AM »
IS there a database of inspection markings?  Reason I ask is I continue to see so many restored cars with so many different markings I am thinking folks are putting on whatever they want to make it look factory correct...  I am an advocate for only reproducing what you find on your car as I know things changed from day to day and possibly car to car... but is anyone tracking the id and inspection marks?
