BillOhio, you mentioned in your post about a rallye green 68 Z, got a name or ph#. Could be the one pictured on CRG homepage. My 04a Z is rallye green and I like to bump heads with other rallye green 68 Z's, thanks.

A 1111467 distributor dated Feb or March 68 would be nice.

Decoding/Numbers / Re: Motor vin stamp vs. transmission vin stamp

John Z, Shouldn't the VIN on the engine pad match the VIN on the cowl tag?

Just scanned though these posts and I didn't see were anyone brought up the difference of the vin# between the engine block and vin plate. 470 vs 428???

Late 67's and mid 68's Z/28 cars had a DF code by the valve stem(no date) and the DF was upside down(facing inward). The rightside up DF started mid to late 68 and into the 69 model year.

If I remember right I once read that VIN's were ganged stamped but the stamp numbers were'nt a 'matched set'. Some were a little higher or lower causing an uneven VIN.

Thank you all for your response. To Jon Mello, that's exactly what I have, I guess I'll have to break down the tire to get the inside dates. To Janobyte, even though our Z's were built 4 weeks apart, my DF's could have been from the last 'batch' of 07's and yours from the next 'batch' of rims produced. I believe your rims were the first batch to have the date stamped on the outside and the DF stamp facing 'inward'. I think I read some where that GM was putting out 600 Camaros a day???

Originality / DF rally wheels

I have a 68 Camaro Z/28 that was built 04A. I have one original wheel that is a 15x6 with a upside down DF code. Is this correct? Original tire is still on it so I can't check the dates on the inside of the rim.

Barsteel; What is the casting date of the block? Should be in the rangee of 3/15 - 3/27. My 04A built Z/28 was also assembled 0329.
