Originality / Re: 68 z28 dipstick tube
« on: March 18, 2010, 10:06:54 PM »
Is your dipstick  a 'gray' tipped round? It should have 'low/full/engine oil M' on the stick. Is the tube curved and how long is it?

I'm going through my parts box, for my 68 camaro z/28, and I found the gray tipped dipstick but I also found two tubes. One is curved and one is straight, does anyone know if the correct tube is curved or straight? I read abunch of posts about dipsticks but the correct dipstick is only as good as the correct tube. PJ

Originality / Re: Build Date
« on: March 18, 2010, 12:05:35 AM »
An 11C build date for a 69 would be Nov of 68! If it was for Nov 69 it would be for a 1970 model year.

Does anyone have a preference when it comes to Re-Pop parts? Is one maufacturer better than the other. Are parts made in USA or some where else?

The 3932388 is a rare block used in 69 passenger(350/300HP) and Camaros. A few SS350's and a few Z/28. Casting dates Dec 08 - March 09, however most were dated Sept - Dec 08. Data taken from 'Chevrolets by the numbers' 1965 - 1969.

Decoding/Numbers / Block suffix code and Munci metal tab.
« on: March 13, 2010, 12:13:42 AM »
I have a 3932386 block dated I68, with a pad stamp of V0910XK. I believe this is a is a 69 block 350 4 bolt and I think it's a truck block. Can anyone verify my findings? Also on my Munci tranny there's a metal tag attached to the lower left bolt of the cover, and with out removing the bolt to see all the numbers, the numbers 915085 are stamped on it, any ideas?

Did you R & R the springs and shocks? Did you replace with oem's or correct replacements? Car will settle down some after awhile.

OK OK OK OK I think we have enough data to decode tank numbers. Aug 1 of production year was week 01 and Last week of July would be 52 or 53!

General Discussion / Re: Possible 'phony' 68 Z/28

Regarding the 'June' date, I thought that someone might decode the 'M68' with the 6 = the 6 month of the year, June, and the 8 as the year. Or the 68 could just be the 2 digit year.

Restoration / 68 Camaro Upper Dash Replacement.
« on: March 08, 2010, 07:57:11 PM »
I need to replace the upper dash panel(the one with defrost holes and radio grill) in my 68 Camaro. The windshield is already removed, is this a hard R & R project? My whole interior is factory intact and I really don't want to tear everything up. Thanks for your help. PJB

While it's not the 'norm' for a pad date to be 2 mos eariler thatn the cowl build date, it is possible. It's true 'M' coded blocks have no casting date, so the 'M68' on this block doesn't mean June of 68, it had to be cast b4 pad date of 0510. 'M' blocks were transition blocks between the old and new castings with some changes made for the next model year. some were scraped and some were put into production. These days if some one had a 'M' block with the correct casting number they could restamp it and no one could argue the fact especially if the restamp was perfect.
