It's possible you have a small gas leak at a fitting or in the fuel line or even a pin hole in the gas tank that's not noticed until the car is running and it probably drips on a hot part where it evaporates so no dripping on garage floor. John Z's answer is more technical and probably correct.

I'm in the same boat, I have a 68 z/28 04A build that has been in storage for over 30 years. The gas tank is original and was pulled before storing the car. It is in very good shape with a little surface rust, but I can turn it upside down and shake it and debris falls out of the filler tube. I plan on using the original tank in my resto so I'm thinking about putting some pebbles or marbles in the tank and shaking it until no more debris falls out then rinse it out with kerosene. Good or bad idea?

I have an 04A build 68 Z/28 and my bolt ons are dated 1 wk of April. Starter 8D5, alternator 8D3, exzhaust manifolds D18 etc.

Hi Guys; I'm looking at two 68 302's one has a VIN of 18L397887 and assembly date of 0404 and the other is 18N412897 and a 0329 assembly date. My question is, are these both 'in-sync' with their numbers? The LA build has a older VIN and a later assembly date over the NOR motor which has a newer VIN with an eariler assembly date. I'm looking for a replacement motor for my 68 Z/28 (no motor in car when I bought it, VIN 423105 04A).

Block casting date of J257 is for a 67 model year. Model years run from july thru june.

i NEED SOME CLARIFICATION ON THE REAR TAIL LIGHT LENSES...........i THOUGHT 67'S HAD FULL RED LENSE WITH THE BACKUP LIGHTS IN THE LOWER VALANCE AND THE 68'S HAD THE RED & CLEAR LENSES(FOR BACKUP)? DID THE RS OR SS OPTION MAKE A DIFFERENCE?
