Restoration / 67 vent window removal
« on: January 25, 2010, 12:56:50 AM »
vent window is removed from the frame. is there a trick to removing the glass from the chrome trim that surrounds it. it seems to be glued into the rubber moulding inside the chrome trim. there is also a small hole in the chrome trim half way down. is this a fastener of some kind. also i tried to order two repop vent windows from classic industries and they are back ordered with no clue as to when they may be avaliable. any other sources out there for repop vent windows complete with glass and all or perhaps original equip in very good shape?
thanks jimbo

thanks so much for taking the time to comment Sauron327.  Your opinion is important.  What a great site this is.  So these two turqs would be a common combo in 67 i would guess.

Thanks guys. That is a great combo and what the car looks like now except it has  the rally stripes.     the original color was tahoe turquoise.  The dashtop and face is also white with a turq dash pad. I am not big on the white dash.  I forgot to mention the car has a gm cowl induction hood, front and rear spoiler. I would notcall it over the top custom but with the zz4 and stripes it is a mild custom. More input please/

i need some good advice on wht color to paint my 67 ragtop.   the interior is the deluxe turquoise, and is in excellent shape. the top is white. i was going to put a black top on but have decided to go with the white as it is also in great shape.  here is my question.  is anyone familiar with 67 or other first gens that came with the turq interior?   what would be a good color for the body and dash with a white top and turq interior.  It is a clone rs ss with a zz4 crate engine. because it is not original  i am thinking of putting the z stripes on the car.,perhaps white.    please any and all suggestions are appreciated.     i need your help. ??? ???

Thanks Guys

No dye job for me.  I just purchased a new black top and am going to install it myself when the car comes back from the body shop.  If any one get a chance google The Iron Garage and have a look at the incredible work they do with the dynacorn bodies. For those that are not familiar dynacorn builds reproduction bodies of camaro and other muscle cars.  I know these cars are not the real deal and in my mind could never replace 60's muscle, they are truly works of art. They also have in their showroom a real numbers 69 copo camaro, a Reggie jackson numbers 60 impala ss 409 4 speed rag top a 70 chevelle ls7 4 speed rag top, a pair of matching vin 69 boss stangs one a 429 the other a 302, a numbers 70 charger hemi as well as a bunch of other very impressive, very high end restorations of 60's and 70's muscle.  This shop is amazing.  They are located in the Edmonton alberta Canada area and build high end cars for clients all over North America.  Anyway take a look and comment i you wish. Thanks again for
the help on the dye job.

Budget budget budget   This is a reality for most of us when it comes to building a hobby car. I am wondering if anyone has hadexperience with dying a vert top from white to black. I am painting my 67 to a cyber grey mettalic (2010 camaro color).  1500 bucks to have a black top installed.  How tough is it to install yourself? Dye or install ? Please advise. Thanks

Hey KurtS

I am brand new here. (Although I bought my first 67 in 1976 ,rs ss 4 speed coupe)And this site is clearly invaluable. It is a Gem. For me personally the names or # of posts don't matter.
I appreciate the consideration given to aknowledge those who have been contributing to this great site over a long period of time. Do as you like  as far as the names go. If you could describe myself in a name it would be," GRATEFUL FOR THE OPPORTUNITY AND GLAD TO BE HERE GUY "

Originality / Re: Making a coupe into a convertible
« on: January 05, 2010, 01:03:56 AM »
To clear things up. We are not intending to make a vert out of a coupe. We have a vert stripped and are restoring the car. The issue is that we came upon some welds on the vert components in the back seat area that do not look like factory machine type welds.  These are mig or stick type welds as Kevin has described. We were looking for some distinguishing features that would indicate a true vert and not a decapitated coupe.  We have now determined that the h member on the underside of the car indicates a vert.  Thank you Kevin for that info. I really do appreciate the interest from all the first gen freaks. ( as i am also one)  Does anyone have a photo of the underside of a 67 coupe. Thank you all.

Thanks Kevin I looked and the x member is gone but the factory threaded holes and the h member are there.  Are these two features on only the rags.

Hi Kevin
I went under the car and it does not have the x brace, but the factory threaded holes are there. I wonder if they put those holes on all the 67 coupes and rags or just on the rags? It does have the h re enforcing ribs.
Thanks for all your time and info, this is an excellent venue.
