Restoration / 67 bumper bent?
« on: December 22, 2014, 01:23:44 AM »
Is there a simple or foolproof way of checking to see if your front bumper is bent? My 67 pass side lower fender section is on crooked. It appears as though when they assembled the car (before I bought it) the body shop had to put the lower fender section on ascue to allow them to put the bumper on. The body lines of this lower section do not lineup. The bumper looks fine although the gaps at the inside of either bumper end are not consistent.         Wow is this as confusing a question as I think it is ?

Restoration / 67 rag exhaust replacement
« on: December 21, 2014, 10:51:23 PM »
Hello all. I need some advice on replacing my entire exhaust on my 67. I live in Canada. I am not sure if I should just go to a muffler shop or if I should order a package and do it myself. I will be going to the Portland swap meet in April. Should I just buy a set there and bring it back to Canada? If so can anyone recommend a manufacturer that will allow me to replace it myself without to much hassle. Any and all comments are gratefully accepted, thanks. And Merry Christmas to all, especially to all those in the service to Canada and the USA, Law enforcement, emergency personnel and the military.thank you so much for all you do.

Hi Mike My buddy has a 70 cuda ragtop that he is restoring for the second time in 30 years.  He put a top on himself the first time and says he will do it again. His advice is give ones self lots of time, have the correct tools on hand and network for installing  tips as much as you can.  He also mentioned installing in the sun to keep the top soft and pliable.  Thanks for the response.

That is interesting . Thanks for the info Paul. I really appreciate it. It sure is fun putting the pieces of the puzzle together on this car.  It could not be done without the vast knowledge of CRG.  In 1976 I bought a 67 camaro 350 4 speed m22 tranny, standard interior off a guy who said he used to bracket race it in Ontario. I lived in Alberta then. I wish I had access to this kind of info back then.  I would really like to know what I had and the history of the car. 60's muscle was easy to come by then and First Gens Camaros were no exception. Lots of #'s matching cars around and they were relatively cheap. I paid $2000.00 for mine and it was very nice.  Sold it 2 years later for $2200.00.  Just one of the many I should have kept. Like the following that I have owned over the years from 76 till now.   66 Beaumont 283 bucket seat car,62 chevy II nova ragtop, 75 mgb,#'s  72 Camaro z28, 67 firebird bucket seat 326 #,s ragtop, 64 acadian beaumont, #'s 71 Camaro 307 hounds tooth bucket seat car, 2 tone silver and black 1958 Canadian Impala mild custom with 350 LT1 red tuck and role interior,1967 Camaro ss/rs clone ragtop with a zz4 crate engine. And now this #'s 67 ragtop. Like everyone else on this site I should have kept them all.  Thanks again Paul.

Decoding/Numbers / canadian protectoplate
« on: January 21, 2014, 05:12:01 AM »
I have been trying to decipher the  protecto plate for my 67 ragtop. The car was purchased in Ontario Canada in July 1967. The protectoplate is still attached to the back page of the  original owner protection plan booklet. The problem is it does not look at all like the protectoplate example on the CRG site. Are the Canadian protectoplates different from the U S ones and is there any info available that could help me with my Canadian protectoplate. I have been able to ascertain the rear axle is a 308 10 bolt non posi dated June 13 from the Detroit Gear and axle 1st shift.  I have also confirmed, to the best of my knowledge, it still has the born with 327.  I will attempt to find out what the original manual tranny is, as it is in a box under my work bench. The car has a 4 speed standard in it right now. (Still haven't had time to discover what the tranny in the car is yet.)  I just purchased the car this past summer and immediately put it in storage while I built my garage.  The garage is finished and I am now busy renovating the house from top to bottom.  This reno is unfortunately preventing me from spending much time on the car. I am going to attempt to post some pics soon.   I am not the most proficient person when it comes to computers so it may take a bit of work.  Is there a section on this great site that gives instructions on how to post pics?  Thanks Jimbo

Can anyone tell me what is the best quality ragtop for my 67. I would like a top that is close to original in appearance as my car is matching numbers and I would like to keep it as correct as possible. Who makes the best repop tops, and where can I buy them in USA or Canada. I am in British Columbia.  Thanks jimbo

Thanks a bunch guys.  I will attempt to post some pics as soon as I can.  i am guessing the m (re: mk ) has been removed in the decking process.  I don't know if we truly appreciate the valuable info that is available at the touch of a key pad on this site. It is remarkable what the founders and stake holders of this site have created and maintained here.  Thanks you so much to you all and I feel very lucky to be a part of it.  I hope to some day assist someone with a problem or question as I have been helped.   Thanks again.  Jimbo

Hey Mark. Thanks for your response.  I  don't have any letters on the stamping between the 07 and the K.  What does the K represent?

Having trouble finding the partial vin on my engine block.  The car is a 1967 rag top 327  3 speed Saginaw.  The tag on the block just ahead of the pass side cyl head shows T 0607   K. This tells me June 7 tonawanda plant   But what does the k tell me? It does not show a partial vin at all. It is possible that the block has been decked and the partial vin was shaved off.  Is there another location on the block where the partial vin might be. The casting on the back of the block drivers side shows 3903352. I believe this tells me it is a 327 275 horse.  I was told by the previous owner this is a numbers car and I would sure like to confirm this.   I also have the protecto plate if this helps. Thanks for any help.
