Originality / Re: 67-68 Washer pump
« on: May 14, 2012, 04:54:15 AM »
Cool.  I haven't tried mounting mine, yet.  I found my old motor and it did have the pump on it.  So, if anything, I suppose I could rebuild the old one with the new one's parts...

Opps, pump, not motor...  Sorry.

I'm pretty sure '67 firewall holes are round and '68-9 are kind of oval...  They are different part number obviously.

Initially all trunk lids were punched for the emblem. On D80 cars the emblem was supposed to be re-located and new holes drilled; wasn't always done. There were several lids used in production for '69. Service replacement lids did not have any emblem/spoiler mounting holes.

Can I ask if this was true for '68s, too?  Meaning, all lids had the emblems initially punched regardless of D80 option.  Then, if it was added at the factory or dealer, new holes were drilled.?.?

Maintenance / Re: Noise from transmission after dyno-test

Check around your fan and pulleys/belts.  Maybe the dyno guys knocked something loose???  Could it "just" be a rattle from under the car?  Maybe something was bent driving it on/off the dyno???

Where did the low oil pressure light come on when illuminated - dash cluster?  Thanks

The OIL lamp in a car w/o gauges would be next to the BRAKE lamp in the speed-o.  There is a (low) FUEL lamp in cars with gauges instead of the OIL lamp.

1. Usually a star washer means ground.  Though, in that area, there usually isn't a separate ground wire for anything.  In '68 there was a ground wire added to the instrument cluster that goes to the pedal support brace.  You might have to just try to get in there and look around for a wire hanging or an empty hole.  Not easy, I know...

2. Yes, the radio power wire is Yellow.  And that looks like the correct type of connector for it, too.

3.  Do your headlight doors work?  That is the connector for them.  Correct colors, too.  I believe it is in the correct location, as well.

Yes, I hear that the rachet wheel doesn't constantly rotate.  When the wiper knob is pressed, a solenoid pulls a latch/arm into contact with the wheel.  I think that arm constantly moves back and forth.  When engaged, it pulls the wheel one "notch".  This is all from drawings I have seen online.  I wonder if there is a problem in that system?

I (finally) put all my spare parts up in storage.  So, I can't easily pull it out and do some poking around.  I have a few pictures of the motor appart and a diagram of the wiper and pump inner workings.  I think someone scanned them from either Body by Fisher or the Service Manual.

3916339 is also listed under Z28 A5.  3829058 is all over the place in the AIM.  So, I guess you are looking for 3916338...  It doesn't seem to appear anywhere else.  Hmmm....  Listed as "disc." (discontinued) at a couple sources.  I wonder if one could buy two of the 3916339 hoses and modify one?  Thinking out loud...  ePay???

I wonder if you can just bend up the tabs to swap in the "guts"?  That is if you can't find one that is like the old one...

Do you need more than what is shown in the AIM?  I used the pictures there to figure out what all the tapped holes are for in the body and frame rail.  Then, I could picture what went where...  Also, I recently saw someone post pictures of their hangers asking questions.  So, I'm sure a search would turn up a bunch of stuff.

Yes, the single wire senders/sensors get ground through the engine.  So, too much sealant can cause a bad ground.
