I finally got over here!!

I will pack off a 307 while stepping over a 305!

Don't dis the 307 b/c I can drop back to a 3" crank and hop it up and go big engine hunting!

I'm talking about shifting her up at 8, 9 and maybe even 10,000+ rpm, big engine hunting..

DZAuto has pic's of all this if you want to hunt him up over on I think Team Chevelle.

He also has pic's of the CHEAP big-hole P/U bell housing too and tell's how to use it to save some MONEY!

Did it start out life as a 210hp/327 by chance?

In other words sell your snowflake intake for the money and install an early old Performer 2101 or a Weiand 8004 off ebay that I figure will cost you $35 to $50 or so plus S&H?? It and a stock Q-Jet.

Heck, I just bought a stock aluminum Q-Jet intake for $10 yesterday so go from there and as a matter of fact, up to 34 to 3,600 rpm, you don't get any better than the stock Q-Jet.

We can make it suck way better up top by installing a 1" thick aluminum spacer and bull-nosing it w/ a 1/2" radius from the top down way back into the ports IF you want to go to all this trouble?

And imho, the 3.08's and the M-21 are killing you! 3.36's and an M-20 is great by me here for you.

Drum spindle to disc modification.

The easy way to do this is to bolt-on a stock caliper bracket to one of the bottom steering arm holes and rotate it up to the top boss and remove what's in the way.

I have Pro-Motorsports 1-15/16" tall bolt-on spindle extenders on my car, but I'm a sorry SOB b/c it's still not on the road after all these years!

I wish Heidt's would make their raised forged dropped spindles NOT DROPPED b/c that is just what 1st Gen's need!

Mild Modifications / Re: Building dz302 engine
« on: November 27, 2009, 02:57:33 AM »
Fwiw, the 302 is different each year so beware if it mean's anything to you?

The '67 used 1/8" tall, 1/2 round dome's like the earlier 283's used and press in pins. SJ here.  And don't forget about the road draft tube.

The '68 used a domed piston like the 350/360/370hp/350, but still pressed pins and finally in '69, they went floating pins. Both MJ here.

As for heads, probably the big valve -462's, -291's and -186's will do, but I forget what numbers went on what year engines.

And the old -346/30-30 "Big Duntov" solid lifter cam is it!  I say "Big Duntov" vs the old 097 solid cam, the "Little Duntov"!!

Then a stock true high-rise aluminum dual plane intake OR a great old Holley 300-36 and a 780 cfm, 3310-1 Holley carb.

PS., and if anybody think's the old -097 solid cam is out to lunch, GM ran it in the high output 283's and 340/360hp/327's back then!

Restoration / Re: DZ motor ID #'s
« on: November 27, 2009, 02:41:23 AM »
Good luck and this is why that even tho I still had my now ruined 350SS's long block in pieces back then, I didn't pick up a correct dated bare block and  have it restamped.  I agonized over this for months and finally went BB!

B/c the sucker would still NOT be my OEM block!
