You won't have to ban me I'll not be back if that's the way the high and mighty feel about it. I was simplying asking a question about my car numbers UNDER THE NUMBERS DECODING HEADER.  My car list parts of several different options and I have several different items in my car. For instants I read all cars come with black seat belts except if it had some other option and that changes other options and depends on something else. I was just a little confused. But you all don't have to worry about me NO MORE. I mean this site is good but YOU ain't GOD.

I have never heard of neutralizing anything after you sodablast.  The only thing I do is DA with 180 and shoot the primer on it.  Never had any problems.  Now I have had to neutralize the soda before disposal because of the contents after use.

Yes soda blast will remove surface rust. It does take a little extra time but I believe you will be pleased with the results.  I don't know what your inside surfaces look like but if you have that much rust on the outside I can imagine. I would still sandblast inside.

Restoration / Stecils and stripes for '69 SS
« on: January 07, 2010, 01:41:32 PM »
I would like to know who y'all would recommend for stencils for '69 SS hockey stripes.  Everbody and their brother sells them and I don't want to take a shot in the dark on these.

    Thanks

My personal choice would be to have the car dipped if you have a place close enough to do it.  But here are a few options I use if you don't want to go that route.  First I would either soda blast or strip with airplane stipper on the outside of the car. The places that are rusted allway thru can be sandblasted to get good metal so your patch will go in to good metal. On inside of fenders and and parts that are out of sight use the sand blast.  The trick to sandblast is never shoot straight on. This heats the metal too much and will distort it. Always shoot at an angle and DO NOT hold it on tough spots just for the sake of cleaning. Keep it moving all the time and if you have a stubborn spot just move on and come back to it.  Also blast inside of all panels after you weld in patch panels because the heat and weld surface will leave slag on inside and you will losse adhesion of any primer or paint and this in time will let the rust return.

Thanks alot Mark.   It is original solid mast front fender mount.  So I need to hunt me an AM/FM mono. Could you give me a little information as to what numbers to look for? What I can use to ID the right one.

My car has the one speaker in the rear. I was told this is RPO U 80. Front speaker only in dash. No speakers in kick panels. Which radio would I need?
Thanks  for any help

I have been doing body work for 30 years. If the rust does not go all way thru I would not replace  anything. Replacement parts just don't have the quality as factory.  As far rust that is all way thru I put a patch panel in if at all possible. A hole the size of a beer can can be patched real easy and you won't have to fight that aftermarket fender for line up. I will not replace a whole quarter just for rust thru in lower half where these cars are notorious to rust out. Put a panel piece in it and leave the integrity of the original body in place. However I would replace any structural pieces that have rusted thru.  BTW  cut out and replace 1 piece at a time then move on to the next place. This way you don't have to worry too much about body twist.
Hope this don't confuse you and good luck with your project.

Originality / Re: 69 interior code 723

My '69 SS is 723 and the carpet is dark green and the dash pad is dark green and the head rest is dark green. Get the picture?  LOL  Laying all jokes aside everything on the inside is dark green.

Thanks for the reply William and that is what I intended to do. I agree with you about the over-the-top style of restoration. I want my car as close as I can get it to the day it was bought new and nothing more. Thats why I started this thread so I could keep it as original as possible.  Adding an option that was not original to the car is a distraction rather than a compliment in my eyes. But after all is said and done I still want it to look as good as possible.

William I know this is off the topic but I am about to invest a ton of money in my car.  The spotless underbodies bit has me worried as does the shiny booster. I am a perfectionist by charector defect and very meticulous. Would making the car look as good as possible  put me on a black list? I thought that was the name of the game. Any help before I get knee deep in this project would be GREATFULLY appreciated.
