General Discussion / Seatbelt ID Tags/Labels
« on: August 06, 2011, 03:56:14 PM »
Some of my ID tags are dirty and I was wondering if I can use something like Mean Green to clean them without risk of removing the ink stamps. I thought about laying them out on my driveway and pressure wash all the belts but I don't want to damage the ID tags.

Any suggestions on cleaning my belts?

Originality / Vent Hose on Breather
« on: June 29, 2011, 02:30:09 AM »
Doe's the '69 L48 get the regular hose with a 90 degree angle in it from the breather to the right side valve cover?  When was the  metal tube introduced in place of the hose?

General Discussion / Alternator Bracket Clamp for Ground Cable
« on: June 16, 2011, 04:44:46 PM »
I read somewhere that the clamp on the alternator bracket for the ground cable was hit and miss on '69. I've looked in Jerry's book and most pictures for the Z28 show it in place but over in the Big Block section some are harnessed to the heater hose with a tie strap. My June built L48 doesn't have a clamp and it's the bracket that came on the engine and has only one  hole with threads cut in it for the bracket to hold the heater hoses. Can anybody post a picture so I can see where to put my tie strap? Doe's the ground cable just hang out in the wind til it comes over to meet the heater hoses where it goes down to the thermostat housing?

Thanks

General Discussion / Drain holes/plugs
« on: May 30, 2011, 02:34:31 AM »
It's a '69. I've read and searched about all the drain holes/locations that are in these cars. I can't seem to get them all in order or I'm afraid I'll miss one.  I was wondering if there is a list of all the drain holes/ locations on the car so I can find it, clean it out and check them off 1 by 1 so I don't miss any. Also I would like a list of plugs and what size I need to plug these holes as I check them off. Is there any such animal?

General Discussion / Stud on power steering pump
« on: May 03, 2011, 02:21:02 PM »
'69 L48 I bought a new pump and the stud hole is empty. Does this use just a regular stud or does it have a shoulder? How long is it?

Mild Modifications / Power Steering Pump Filter
« on: April 18, 2011, 04:39:22 PM »
I'm adding power steering to my '69 L48. I'm updating with the IROC gear box. The standard  pumps at NAPA are offered with a filter built in or you can get it without. Which would work best for my application? Will the filter hender the steering any way?

Decoding/Numbers / Transmission VIN and Build Date
« on: April 07, 2011, 12:23:08 AM »
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1969-70-Muncie-M20-4-Speed-Trans-GM-Camaro-No-Reserve-_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQfitsZYearQ3a1969Q7cModelQ3aCamaroQQhashZitem3cb6cc818dQQitemZ260764893581QQptZMotorsQ5fCarQ5fTruckQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories

This transmission has the VIN of 19N 678549 with build date of June 3. Here's the puzzling part to me.
My car's transmission is VIN 19N667804 with build date of June 24.
How can this happen? 10,745 cars built after mine but dated 3 weeks before of mine.

I don't know if this needs to go into the orphans section or not.

Mild Modifications / Power Steering Gear Box
« on: March 22, 2011, 12:32:25 AM »
I'm going to bite the bullet and add power steering. It's a '69 L48. I've read about the different boxes and I need to know which box to use. Do I need to use the 2 1/2 or 3 1/2 turn gear box. I want my steering a little stiff. I don't like the real "touchy" soft steering. Also which pump do I use?  Is it the one with the big reservoir and skinny neck or the other one with the big filler neck?

General Discussion / Motor Mounts
« on: January 06, 2011, 12:32:47 AM »
I bought a set of motor mounts for my L 48.  They were too wide in the throat by 3/8". Bolt wouldn't reach all way thru.  So I take these back thinking a mistake was made. Got another set out of the box at the parts house and they are the same.  Got a set out for a 327 just for kicks. They fit like a glove.  I  know the frame mount has not been changed. Has anybody else experienced this? ???

General Discussion / Original Owner

I had some very good luck today I thought I would share with all those who are hunting for information about their car. I finally found and talked with the guy that bought my car new. ;D He is going to look for any information or pictures he might have. He said his wife might have some of this stuff stuck back somewhere. So don't ever give up. You never know what a little patients and searching may yield.   :o
