General Discussion / Block Decking
« on: October 04, 2012, 02:27:23 AM »
Decking a block has been a topic in several threads before. Altering the identification numbers on a block is always an issue. Blocks are decked for several different reason. Most of the time it is to true or flatten the surface so you get a perfect/near perfect fit for the head.  Sometimes the block is decked for perfection of the head, piston combination. Most of the time the block will be decked on both sides of the engine if it's a V-8. Other times the block is decked to change the ID numbers with a re-stamp.  This practice is not new and probably will never go away. Just for sake of information lets not confuse the practice of decking with grinding for repair of mistakes in the engine ID numbers on the pad. We have seen pictures, that were shared here on the forum, of engine pad stamps that were ground off and re-stamped at the factory. That cannot be compared to decking. That is the pad. The pad was used for stamping these engine/vehicle ID numbers.  The deck of a block is the entire surface area of the head mating surface of the block.

General Discussion / Legendary Interior Special
« on: September 15, 2012, 01:36:27 AM »
This is where I got my door panels and are best IMHO. Here's a good savings if anybody needs them or will need them in the near future.
I know this is out of the ordinary to post this type stuff but I didn't want to let this slip by because it's a good discount on these. KurtS if I'm out of bounds with this post please delete and accept my apologies.

Maintenance / Interior Lights
« on: August 20, 2012, 12:36:15 AM »
OK Guys the electrical gremlins have struck me again. Haven't moved my car in over 2 months. I connected the battery and the overhead and under dash courtesy lights stay on all the time. Checked all the obvious things like the headlight switch and door jam switch. The light on the back of the console works like it should going off when you shut the door. When I push in on the door jam switch it does seem to cause the lights to flicker or dim just a bit and I mean just a bit but they stay on. I was in a hurry to leave so I just took the bulb out of the overhead light. The under dash lights stayed on so I had to take those bulbs out also.
Where do I need to start looking?

General Discussion / '69 Body/Model Change
« on: June 03, 2012, 04:11:48 PM »
I was ask a question yesterday I couldn't answer. It may have been discussed before but I can't find a definite answer. Why did Chevrolet retool in '69 and run it only 1 year?  It cost a lot to retool anything but a whole car must have been extraordinaire.

General Discussion / Intake Paint Tuning Brown
« on: May 28, 2012, 02:32:59 PM »
In the center of my intake under/around the choke well and on the opposite side in dead center (crossover) of the intake the paint is turning Brown. Is my engine over heating? What caused this? Is this "normal"? Does it have anything to do with the hot slots being plugged? Will it hurt anything?

Maintenance / Brake Bleeding
« on: May 22, 2012, 07:21:47 PM »
I was browsing the Chilton manual and ran across this. I have never heard this before. Has anyone ever did this? Does it need to be performed this way?

"On cars with front disc brakes, it will be necessary to hold in the metering valve pin during the bleeding procedure. The metering valve is located beneath the master cylinder and the pin is situated under the rubber boot on the end of the valve housing. This may be taped in or held by an assistant."
