Restoration / Date Codes

I know this has probiby been covered before but I'm in the process of trying to find parts (Distributer,Carb.,Starter,Exaust Manifolds) for a 12B (68) built 69 Z28 and was wondering what the date codes should be for these parts. It takes allot of time and money to find the parts I need and would like to make sure they are the right ones. So I figure you guy could set me straight. Also thanks for all the great information all of you post. It's priceless.   Rick

Great post. I bought my 69 RS/Z28 back in May of 76. I was 19 and making $2.50 an hour. I paid $2750 for it and that didn't leave me much money for gas. But it was well worth it. My Z has lasted me longer than two marriages and a hand full of girl friends. You just have to know where your priorities lie.

I have a question regarding the kick panels on the 69 Camaros. I though that I had read somewhere that the early 69's had a two piece kick panel and the later ones had a one piece. Can anyone verify this or was I mistaken. If this is true does anyone have a picture of the two piece that they could post. I would also like to thank everyone on this site for all the great posts and anwers. It's a wealth of infomation and I have learned so much. Keep it up.   Rick

Decoding/Numbers / 69 Camaro Rear End Code
« on: November 27, 2009, 09:57:37 PM »
I've been trying to locate the stamped coding on my rear end axel tube with no luck. I have seen diagrams of where it is suppose to be but still having a hard time. The rear end is still in the car and my eyes aren't as good as they use to be. Could the stamping be on top of the tube?

Originality / Re: ZL1 #26

Hi Billy, Great project you have going on. I'm not an expert on ZL-1's but back the 80's I was corresponding with Ed Cunneen and he was nice enough to send me one of his ZL-1 hand books he put together. The reason I'm bringing this up is you stated the #26 engine was a Gibbs ordered car?  In the hand book I have there's a page titled "Dealerships On Record At Chevrolet As Having Been Invoiced For ZL-1 Camaros. It has #26 (609880) as going to Nankivell Chevrolet in Indianapolis, Indiana. As I stated before I'm no expert but have always been fascinated by the ZL-1 but could never come close to affording one. Maybe William could shed a little light on this for us.   Rick

General Discussion / Chambered Exaust System
« on: November 18, 2009, 11:21:45 PM »
What has been the latest Camaro that anyone has come across that came with a chambered exaust system. I see in Jerry's book that the system was deleted from standard production the end of Nov 68. Just wondering if any of the systems made on to any Dec. cars.
