General Discussion / Re: 69 DZ Blocks
« on: June 25, 2011, 09:37:04 PM »
In reading Jerry's New book (4th Edition) he states his research shows the 388 block was used mid year between Feb. 69 thru May 69. and only in 302's. And a range of 3 to 6 weeks from casting to assembly. Has any one seen a 388 block use on any early (68) built DZ motors?

I see there were 3 regularly used blocks in 69: 3932386, 3956618, 3970010. Where did the 3932388 block come into play? Was this a left over block Chevy was trying to get rid of ? How rare is it to see one of these (388) blocks in a 69 Z28?

Could someone tell me why Chevy used 4 different blocks for the 69 DZ 302 through out it's production. Was there any changes on the blocks besides the casting numbers?  Thanks

A little cheaper than the last one. But still out of my price range.

Sorry to hear of the ordeal your going through Danny. I too have a 69 RS Z. I've been able to hang on to it for 35 years this month. I've gone through 2 wifes and God knows how many girl friends, But it's still in my garage. Now my son's want it. One day one of them might get. But for now I think I'll hang on to it. If you do have a list of parts I'm always looking for something. Maybe I could help you out and you help me in return. Fell free to PM me at:  cam1969@cox.net  I hope down the road somewhere Danny you can maybe get another 1st Gen. You got to have something to look forward to. Take care and good luck.

Rick

Thanks for the response Eddie. What bothers me is I have a 12B 69 RS Z. The stamping on my engine is: 19L512504 - V1203DZ. His is: 19L516421 - V1106DZ. Is it possible that an engine built a month before mine would have a higher VIN.#?

I have a friend that was interested in this car and ask what I thought. The stamping on the DZ block he's offering with the car doesn't look right to me. Could I the the opinion of some other 69 Z owners and see what you think. I'd appreciate it. Thanks.

I would think the seller is hoping to find the owner of that car with that price. Like finding a needle in a hay stack. But that paper work would be like gold for the original car. I would give twice that for the paper work for my car. I wish him luck.
