Originality / Engine Lift Brackets
« on: January 06, 2011, 04:09:26 AM »
I have in the past run onto discussions on the correct brackets for the 69SS L48's. I can not seem to locate much reference to them now.
I think in one, there was a mention by Jerry that the double bolt bracket being sold for the front was incorrect.
My motor only has one on it at this time and it is a single with the letter K. This, and correct me if I"m wrong is the correct rear Bracket. What is the the correct front one? How would one describe the front one and is it lettered?

Does anybody have any pics of 69 350/300 SS engine compartments that would show all the proper brackets and locations mounting ect. At the point of installing intake back on block and attempting to place all brackets back where they should go.

Originality / Fuel Return lines

Engine flooding...
Mark,
I still am interested by one of your earlier thoughts on the purpose for the return line on the Qjets to start with. I think somebody out there should have the answer.
Makes sense to me that it would be a relief, and allow a better fuel flow helping to keep the fuel temp in the line down. No...maybe...?
I have changed the carb since, don't seem to have the same problem, but it has not been a hot as it was. I think that the above question is addressing my problem. It seems as if the fuel line is getting hot enough to overpressure the line or vaporize the fuel. We all can remember the days when "vapor lock" was a common word.

Originality / SB Camshaft specs
« on: November 13, 2010, 03:39:24 AM »
Rebuilding a 69 350/300hp and attempting to keep original as possible. Trying to find out info on camshaft, Could not find GM  part number on it but did find the GM stamp. Will most likely have to bore, will replace with orig style flat tops. Will have 041 heads and leave the cast qjet intake and carb. This is a 350 automatic car with air. Would like a slightly overstock performance cam with a good sound but not to loose any vacuum or effect on auto/air situation.
Does anybody have the specs on the stock 300hp cams used in 69 SS's. Or open to suggestions on good cam replacement.

Maintenance / flooding engine
« on: August 01, 2010, 02:10:10 AM »
Having a problem after engine,(sb350) is good and hot, will not start after sets 5 min or so without crankkkkking foot to floor.
Have rebuilt the 4bl qjet. Covered all that I thought would be related to carb itself.
Thinking that it might be related to the heat from the exhaust crossover??

Any help out there on this?

I thought I had seen some discussion in the forum relating to this a short time back but can't find anything now.

General Discussion / Keeping cool
« on: June 28, 2010, 03:49:15 AM »
Have 69 sb 350 w/air. Like to Cruise and have been having trouble with heat building to point around 240-50 deg way to warm, and will not recover very fast. When it does, it's lucky to get back under 200. I have 3 core stock in car now..... Any suggestions?.... Thinking of 4 core or maybe 3 core aluminum. I'm somewhat a fanatic in keeping stock. But I do not want overheating when it can be addressed.

General Discussion / Correct SS Exhaust
« on: May 24, 2010, 11:47:48 PM »
My SB 69 SS has correct 2" - 2 1/4" - 2" through resonators with transverse muffler. To quite! Would like to open it up a little but, don't want to loud.
Muffler is going bad so time to give it a little more of the muscle car sound-- without getting carried away. Also I still want to try to do this and keep it close to correct.
Any suggestions??

« on: March 14, 2010, 05:18:44 PM »
Are there different applications or versions of the 309. The stamping on front side and reference in boosters/cylinder section on CRG seems to suggest that there is.
I have aftermarket on my 69 and plan to install new w/new booster at same time.
