Originality / Engine and components
« on: February 18, 2011, 09:08:25 PM »

Evening,

I have read alot of discussion papers/posts from this site and it has helped to understand what is required from a date coded engine and components.

The engine is the only non original part of the driveline to my camaro. I have been lucky enough to purchase a date code correct one (396) though. The POP has the engine assembled on the 22nd of Feb, the body start date is April 1st week.

I reqiure alternator, carbie, starter motor etc for a 396.

Would the engine dress assembly section (from factory) MORE THEN LIKELY use Feb date coded #'s or March #'s. I know abit of a how long is a peice of string questions.

I guess i need to satisfy my mind that the direction im heading is more than likely #'s correct from assembly in 68.

Any members with #'s matching 396 engines are more then welcome to post a reply.

Thank you guys.

Hi Dutch,

How are you mate?

I performed a search on this site before my post.

There are some interesting Q&A regarding repairing, painting and re chroming pitted chrome.

Im trying to purchase good quality NOS,  i love the # thing associated with my Camaro.

Try "68 tail light bezels" as a search title.

Enjoy!!!

« on: November 24, 2010, 09:42:55 AM »

Hi there,

Here we go.

I have a tic,toc,tac set up on my 68.

The clock and tac are not functioning (self contined unit).

My 68 AIM shows a wire from the negative of the distributor coil (brown i think) as part of the control circuit for the clock and tac to work. This wire is not connected.

At present the wiring at the coil is, Negative- black that goes to distributor and black the goes to capacitor. Posative- white wire that goes to fire wall connecting block.

Is the wiring set up correct? She has been mucked around abit.

If someone could post some photo's perhaps that would be a great place to start.

Cheers.

Maintenance / Re: 68 Power disk brakes problem
« on: November 06, 2010, 09:57:12 PM »

Hi fellas,

The calipers were taken off the rotor's and the weight taken off them. They were not hanging by the hoses. From what i could gather on Friday the master was NOT bleed.

The history on the calipers is a little hard. I can see new pads and they have been painted. Untill they are pulled apart hard to tell condition.

Im thinking the best approach would be to start at the easy fix and work back from there.

Once again thank you for your input it all helps.

Cheers.

Hi Ed,

Thank you for your reply.

I did ask the lad if he had bleed the brakes. He had not tried that and was going to try bleeding the brakes first thing Monday.

Yeah im hoping its something as simple as a little air!!!

If it is a seal were would you recomend trying first?

Once again thank you for your suggestion.

Cheers.

Maintenance / 68 Power disk brakes problem
« on: November 05, 2010, 08:54:02 PM »

Hello,

Sadly i have a issue with my brakes. Disk brake front and drum on the back.

The facts. I had a specialist replace all bushes on the steering and suspension.

They removed the calipers off the disk.

The issue they face is very soft pedal once the hose is connected to manifold and hydraulic line connected to the cyclinder.

They have removed the hose from manifold and get a hard pedal (hydraulic brake only).

I had no problems with my braking system untill now.

I was told of the issue late Friday afternoon so i have not had the chance to have a look at the problem.

Could the booster (power brake cyclinder) be faulty?

Could the hose to the manifold have a fracture in it?

Could the check valve be faulty?

Cheers guys.

Hi guy's,

Yeah sorry its a question.

I have the the total capacity of fliud (water/anti freeze-boil) located within my cooling system at 6 gallons.

I converted that to litres and the figure was around 27 litres. Wow!!!

At this stage i do not have any over heating issues.

Is 6 gallons correct for the specs on my car i supplied?

Cheers.
