1  Camaro Research Group Discussion / Originality / Re: Parts Help on: October 20, 2014, 12:50:50 AM
Jim at Heartbeat has helped me with my restoration a lot. Ask him anything. He will be very accommodating.
Bob at Camaro specialties is very up front about which parts are good and which parts need work
to fit. Both are very pleasant to deal with.
In my experience.
And good luck with your project.
2  Camaro Research Group Discussion / Decoding/Numbers / Re: rear axel code chart on: November 22, 2013, 01:52:47 PM
I would have thought all ring and pinions would be heat treated to a certain spec, but they actually went a step further with the COPO's, now that is getting what you paid for. Those cars must be awesome from top to bottom.
Thanks for letting me know, the codes puzzled me for a little while.

3  Camaro Research Group Discussion / Decoding/Numbers / rear axel code chart on: November 22, 2013, 12:23:24 PM

Hi Darrell,
Stock housing, yes. I don't have that many shims. Either 37 or 35.  It is all I can come up with.
Richmond gears says minimum back lash is printed right on the gear and mine reads .010.
Is this gospel or can this be played with?  yes four speed car
appreciate the help.
5  Camaro Research Group Discussion / Maintenance / Re: ring and pinion mesh on: November 11, 2013, 01:39:14 AM
second two pictures are with .035 on pinion and .010 backlash
when I go to .033, the coast starts to pull away from center towards the top of the tooth
thanks everyone
6  Camaro Research Group Discussion / Maintenance / ring and pinion mesh on: November 11, 2013, 01:36:00 AM
1969 Camaro 12 bolt, 4.10 Richmond gears
I have been back and forth on pinion shims and can't seem to get both the drive side and the coast side patterns perfect.
Drive side can be good and coast side will be off or the other way around. I need opinions.
First pictures, .037 on pinion and .010 BL
7  Camaro Research Group Discussion / Restoration / am/fm radio repair on: September 21, 2013, 11:13:08 PM
My question is: Is there a reliable person to send an original '69 am/fm radio to for repair?
The tuning knob shaft has a little bend in it and the tuning needle sticks.
I did a search and everything on radios is somewhat old.

Looks just like the one Heartbeat sells. I have one of theirs. 1.718 diameter, very heavy but non-magnetic, right around 5 ounces. I wish I had a real one.  Sad

10  Camaro Research Group Discussion / Restoration / Original 1968 heater blower motor on: November 04, 2012, 01:38:28 AM
I need advice.
I was going to just buy a new heater blower motor when I noticed the date on the one I took out.  It was dated the same month as the car.  Now I am torn.
question one:  Should I keep the blower I have and just put it in the basement and buy a new one or have the old one rebuilt?
question two: Who in the world rebuilds blower motors? Mine is somewhat tight.  It turns but it is tight.
Happy Thanksgiving everyone.
Ron

13  Camaro Research Group Discussion / General Discussion / Re: Asking about my brothers old Camaro, from WI, "skunk" JL8 car on: November 20, 2011, 08:52:26 PM
A friend had one. Mid 70s out of Oshkosh. Had it about two years. Oddly enough his name was Jeff also. Black/ white /black houndstooth. I do remember the car needed a brake job and it was so expensive to get it done I think is the reason he sold it. Also, the car ran like crap all the time. I remember him talking about  the insurance price on it too. I am thinking around 1974. Everyone have a safe and happy holiday,   Ron
