6-cylinder Camaros / Re: Quantity Of Original 67 250's Remaining
« on: August 10, 2010, 11:42:21 AM »
I have a 67 250 2 speed auto car with 84000 miles that appears to have been around the Santa Cruz for most of it's life. The ONLY modification to it is a set of American Racing Torque Thrust wheels, and yes I have sourced a set of original wheels and hub caps. I have just had to retrim the interior and it has been painted once, still factory White exterior and red interior. When doing the work to get it on the road in Australia, I clean and reused as many possible components and found and recorded all the paint marks, dates etc as i went.

Originally when I looked at the car for sale I was going to do as so many other have done over the years and put a V8 in it. Once I got it home and started work, there is NO WAY this car will get a V8 in it now, It's to original and I think worth much more than a base model V8 due to it's rarity.

Maintenance / Re: Idle problems under load

I would start by confirming that the TDC mark on your balancer is actually correct. As JohnZ has stated, 45deg is way over the top and would be detonating BADLY and is only going to harm your engine. I would also suggest some form of fuel pressure regulator. The presuure you are running will on flood the engine and kill the needle and seat in the carby, if it hasn't already done so.

What is the Comp Cam number. How much compression and what is the manifold & carb  (specific numbers) you have on it. What heads and are they stock or ported. Exhaust?? Do you have a standard torque convertor?

How did you set the cam timing up. Did you just use the marks on the gears or did you actually check lobe lift.

I had a very similar problem to this when I first started working on cars 30 years ago. I found out the hard way that what they supplied me was not what I asked for.  Have you confirmed that the cam is actually "MILD". What are the spec's.

6-cylinder Camaros / Front Swaybar
« on: April 25, 2010, 12:07:50 PM »
I have just noticed that my early 67 six cylinder car has no front sway bar fitted. From what I can see of the bounting bracket holes in the subframe have never had a bolt fitted to them. Is this a common thing?

Thanks
Al

6-cylinder Camaros / Oil Filter
« on: April 04, 2010, 06:32:51 AM »
Can anybody please help with what is the correct oil filter part number for a early 67 250 engine. Should it be a PF-25. Some of the parts catalogues show a PF25 but else where On this forum I'sure I read that a PF25 didn't start until 1969?

There seems to be a couple of different colours for these filters. Should it be Blue or White

Which one of the two listings below would be correct.

General Discussion / 1969 Detroit Motor Show cutaway car
« on: March 23, 2010, 10:54:05 AM »
Does any body have any photos of the rotating stand which the cutaway display car sat on. The basic photo's published in books are not enough.

I found the car here in a wrecking yard in Australia in 1999 and I "may" have found the stand that goes with it. A lot of the stories surrounding  the stand seem to match up but would like to try and verify it some way.

I believe the car ended up at Rick's First Gen. Can anybody varify where it is now and who own's it?

Thanks

Can you post a picture of the NOS item.  I'm reasonably certain that the colour is original on mine but would like to be 100%. I'm assuming that the finish between a 67 and a 68 will be the same.

Thanks

There is a guy selling kits on Ebay for Saginaw type 525 steering boxes.
All of the parts are correct except the top gasket.
I just made a new gasket myself and assembled it up.

Would be nice to narrow down the change in date formats as well. Can never know too much.

I completely agree. Having more data can only help to educate everybody. You never know there could be exceptions to the rule/norm and we will only ever find out by continually researching.

Keep up the brilliant job.

Thanks for the link Ken.

I still think that they are incorrect as my vehicle has CAC (K19) therefore it should have YN springs not the YZ. I guess it could be that somebody just picked up the wrong ones on the assembly line.

Thanks

6-cylinder Camaros / Front Springs
« on: March 09, 2010, 07:49:11 AM »
Thanks guys for finally getting a specific 6cyl discusssion area underway.

I have a early 67 production 6cyl coupe with a 250 & 2spd auto. I hope somebody may be able to assist in helping me understand why this car appears to have the wrong front springs in it from new (based on AIM information)

The springs in the car are YZ

All help is appreciated.

Restoration / Re: Weather shield sealant
« on: February 21, 2010, 08:50:48 AM »
Thanks for the information.  I checked both of these products out and the 3M one is only available in Black and can't find anybody close by that has the other one in stock.

Originally I stated that my car had grey caulking, but it is fact off white.  I found some off white caulking compound today at the hardware store. I've been in the auto industry restoring cars for 30 years and never seen it availalble in off white. I guess I learnt something today.

Restoration / Weather shield sealant

Can any body advise what the original grey sealant / caulking is for the paper weather shields behind the door and rear side trims. It appears to be used in a number of places around the body.

Thanks
