Restoration / Re: Repair / strengthen cracked plastic on cluster 68 camaro
« on: December 19, 2019, 06:00:59 PM »
I repaired mine with JB weld, but over time cracks appeared elsewhere.....just an age think I guess.   Eventually, just replace the housing.  Not that expensive.

General Discussion / Re: Passenger door mirror

Just an FYI....installed the Scott Drake passenger side mirror with convex glass.   Excellent quality.   Have great side view vision by mounting the mirror 5 1/4 inches back.   Classic Industries also sells the Scott Drake.

General Discussion / Passenger door mirror

Too many close calls backing out of my garage.  It's time to install a passenger-side door rear view mirror on my '68.   Checked out various posts, but still not sure exactly how far back to mount it.   Would like to locate it similar to drivers side mirror, but not sure this would give me good side/rear visibility when sitting in the drivers seat.   Any suggestions?

General Discussion / Re: 15 x 8 Backspacing question
« on: June 04, 2019, 04:39:24 PM »
I'm running 15 x 8 inch Cragar rims with 4.5 backspacing, 215/70R15's on the rear of my 68.  Stock height suspension.  All is ok with that setup.  Suggest you don't go past that.  Think the 5.5 backspacing might rub the fender lip on high speed cornering.  Depends on the tire also.

Put in all the factory specified grounding......it's not just for the radio.

Danny,

If you are still in Sonoma Cty., give Horgans Transmissions in San Rafael a call.  They may lend you the pump, etc. needed to get the synthetic out.   May have to leave them a deposit.

Ditto on the xmsn synthetic.....don't use it.  Conventional oil is better in old cars, including engine oil.

I use Joe Gibbs HR-2 non synthetic 10-30 in my 68 350cu in.   Tried synthetic & had trouble (too slick for my older engine).   Like the added zinc & other chemicals in HR-2 = better for my flat tappet engine

If you prefer a new carb vs rebuild or chain store version, suggest an Edelbrock 600 cfm with electric choke (reliable & simple to adjust).

Garage Talk / Re: Attending Hot August Nights - Virginia City Nevada

I've been to HAN 24 times.   Great event.  Agree with Richard, Wed. through Sunday morning is the best time to attend.  Hotel rates increase considerably Fri. & Sat. nights.  Hotel suggestions would include the Grand Sierra, Atlantis, Peppermill, or Nugget.   The automobile auction at the Convention center (near Atlantis) is a must see.  The National Automobile Museum in downtown Reno is great also.  I usually stay at the Grand Sierra or Atlantis.  Too hard to get my car out of the parking lots at some other hotels....Peppermill, Silver Legacy.

I like Steve's Camaros in South San Francisco, Ca.    Knowledge of 67-69 Camaros (& parts ) is outstanding.

Restoration / Re: 1968 rear axle brake lines
« on: September 23, 2017, 04:31:40 PM »
Bought mine from Right Stuff Detailing www.getdiscbrakes.com.   Replaced all the brake lines with stainless.   Everything fit ok & matched original (except for the stainless steel finish).

Restoration / Re: 1968 quarter window rubber seals

Thanks Mike.   Took your suggestion.....installed both rubber seals in under 15 minutes.   Less messy than my "old" soapy water method.

Restoration / 1968 quarter window rubber seals

What's the best way to slide in new quarter window vertical rubber seals (weatherstrips).  I was going to wet things down with soapy water & slide them in.  Is there a better way?
