Maintenance / Gas tank
« on: November 03, 2010, 02:48:51 AM »
When filling my 68 with fuel (in California) often have difficulty with fuel leaking between the filler opening and hose nozzel.   Does not seem to matter how tight I hold the filler hose against the filler opening, or how slow I pump the gas.  Anyone know of a device  (or some trick) to stop the fuel leak during fillup?

« on: October 21, 2010, 11:19:36 PM »
Want to remove my 68 dash pad & send to Just dashes for restoral.  Whats the best way to remove it?  Prefer not removing the radio, heater controls, instrument cluster, etc.  Is there an easier way?

Mild Modifications / Radiators
« on: October 10, 2010, 05:40:28 PM »
Converting my 68 SS 350V8, 4sp to air conditioning (Vintage Air). Need to change out the radiator & shroud to air (23" wide core).  Looking for advice on the best radiator to buy.  Plan to install a 7 blade, clutch fan.  Looked at alumitech, be cool, griffin, etc.  Do some cruising i.e. Hot August Nights, so the engine will running at idle /low speed for extended periods.  Would like to avoid electic fans if possible, but may need to install a manually controled pusher.  Any input is appreciated

Restoration / Clutch Fan disengage speed
« on: September 22, 2010, 04:43:08 PM »
Does anyone know the approximate RPM that a 68 radiator clutch fan disengages.  I'm converting my 68 350 no air to a Vintage Air setup & will be installing the ac radiator & shroud.  Considering a 7 blade clutch fan instead of an electric.  Thanks.

Originality / California yellow & black license plate
« on: September 11, 2010, 04:05:35 PM »
Any suggestions on the best source for getting a 1968 California yellow/black license plate thats really "out of circulation".  See some on ebay but not sure I can trust their originality.  Don't want to go through the Calif DMV process to reregister the plate, only to find out its a counterfit.  Thanks.

Mild Modifications / replacing radiator
« on: September 08, 2010, 09:13:21 PM »
Going to replace my old radiator with a higher efficiency unit with electric fan(s) when I install Vintage Air air conditioning this winter.  Anyone have recommendations of Be Cool vs Griffin vs ?  My 68 runs a 350 w/330 to 350 HP.  Anyone have opinions on 2 row 1.125 vs 2 row 1.00 cores?

Mild Modifications / Installing Vintage Air Gen IV
« on: August 10, 2010, 01:53:49 AM »
Anyone have experience with installation of a Vintage Air Gen IV Sure Fit unit in a non air 68.  Looks pretty straight foreward, but I've gotten bit before.  Also will be putting in a Be Cool radiator/electric fan module at the same time?  Any advice/cautions?  Thanks.

Restoration / 1968 Custom interior seat back emblem backing plates
« on: July 31, 2010, 05:06:20 PM »
Anyone need correct backing plates for 1968 custom/houndstooth seat back emblems.  I was unable to locate these, so had a local metal fabricator make a die/stamp, and manufacture me some.  They are the correct shape to recess the emblem, are made of galvanized steel, and are correct size and shape of original.  Only difference is emblem mounting holes are round (vs square on factory).  I'm not in the parts business, but figured since I had to pay for the stamp anyway, maybe someone else can benefit too.  Estimate cost would be $11.00 ea.  Can provide photos if anyone is interested

Restoration / Interior
« on: May 17, 2010, 06:49:27 PM »
I'm restoring my 68 deluxe interior.  I'm missing the backing plates for the deluxe seatback emblems.  Can't find them in any catalogs.  Does anyone know where I can obtain new or used ones?  Does anyone have a drawing/sketch with dimensions so I can make some myself?  Made some flat backing plates, but they don't recess the emblems properly.

Maintenance / 1968 non air heater blower speeds
« on: December 23, 2009, 08:32:30 PM »
1968 non air SS 350.  Only getting one speed when I operate the heater fan switch.  Replaced the fan switch and resistor unit (in the heater duct box).  Wiring seems ok at the resistor and switch.   Read other forum comments regarding an in line fuse on air equipped, but don't see one on my non air.  I get continuity & different ohm readings ok at the heater switch.  Any suggestions?

Restoration / 68 4spd xmsn shifter
« on: September 26, 2009, 04:00:13 PM »
My 68 SS has an older muncie m21 4spd (casting 3851325).  Has the speedo cable on the left side & appears to be out of a 1963-65 chevy/nova/etc.  Since it was just rebuilt (over $1900), I'm not ready to replace it with a numbers matching xmsn(yet).  I'd like to change the linkage/shifter to the correct 68 muncie. Does anyone know if the 68 linkage/shifter will work ok?  Thanks

Restoration / 1968 SS hood hinge spring
« on: July 28, 2009, 04:30:26 PM »
I'm trying to determine if my 68 SS w/SS hood has the correct hood hinge springs.  My car has 26 wound coils per spring & holds the hood up just fine.  In aftermarket catalogs & at a recent car show I've seen 28 coils.   Now I see in some catalogs the replacement non SS spring has 22 coils.   What's correct?

Restoration / GM Mark of Excellence Decal
« on: July 18, 2009, 03:50:17 PM »
Follow up to an earlier question on the Mark Of Excellence Decal.  I understand most/all 68's did not have the decals.  I'm helping a friend with a 67' RS & he wants to put the Decal(s) on.  In photos/books/e Bay postings we see many different locations on the door jamb.  Some show the bottom of the decal level with the screw.  Some show the decal between the door latch & the screw.  What would be correct.  Regarding my 68 SS.  Have a Muncie M21, but it has a white shift lever ball...thought the correct was black with a chrome base.  Any help would be appreciated.

Does anyone know where I can purchase a replacement seat back stop cable and cable to cushion screw?  This is the cable on the passenger side bucket seat .  I have the upper cable attaching screw.  Also, wondered what brand, & paint color # is preferred when respraying a black SS grill (non RS). Thanks.

Restoration / 1968 correct ss grill
« on: June 22, 2009, 06:23:22 PM »
Restoring my 68 SS & unclear when the LA factory changed grill colors.  My Camaro was built during the 4th week of April, 1968.  It's a non RS. Should the grill be silver or black.  Thanks
