General Discussion / Re: Radio recommendation?
« on: December 07, 2023, 05:33:47 PM »
I installed a Retro Manufacturing Retro radio in my '68.  Has bluetooth, microphone, several USB ports & looks 100% like the original radio.  Available with different face plate options to match the original radio.  I installed the aux jack in the glove box.

General Discussion / Re: Please help with tire/wheel size

I have 15" Cragars on my '68 SS coupe.   Running 215/65's with no problem.  Standard Cragar offsets...rear rims are 8", fronts are 7 somethings.

Related question?   Different tension bars for rear spoiler vs non spoiler equipped trunk lids?  Weight difference of trunk lid.

Just curious as to why you're doing this?   Are you changing other'68 items to look like '69's = taillights?

Maintenance / Waterless coolant
« on: December 20, 2022, 06:03:42 PM »
Any opinions about replacing 50/50 mix coolant with a 100 % waterless coolant (evanscoolant.com) in my '68 350.   Have never used anything but a 50/50 mix.    Just curious if anyone has tried it.

Mild Modifications / Re: Disc brakes

Not sure if you are trying to keep the car original (your addition of disc brakes).  Most aftermarket brake manufacturers (SSBC,Wilwood, etc.) make adjustable proportioning valves.   After installing, you can dial in the front vs rear braking characteristics you want.

Maintenance / Re: Engine Oil Preferences

Switched from Gibbs  to VR-1 20-50.   Both good.  No reason for the change....just felt like it, and VR-1 is easier to find where I live.

Maintenance / Intake Manifold Oil Seepage
« on: August 03, 2021, 03:03:30 AM »
68 Camaro 350 with Edelbrock performer intake manifold.   Getting a little oil seepage around center bolts.  No problem for 400-500 miles then slight seepage starts again.  Before resealing I always clean the bolts in solvent, clean the bolt holes & run a pipe thread reamer to be sure there's no residue/oil, etc, in the bolt holes.   I use ARP thread sealer.   Any suggestions for a better thread sealant?   How about Permatex High Performance Sealant 56521?

Pete,
I live in San Rafael.  Own a 68, restored but not numbers matching, so not suitable for Jerry's review.    Would be interested in seeing the Camaros that will be certified, and meeting some fellow Camaro owners.  Any chance of stopping by (for a short visit) during the inspections.  Private message is ok.

I like Steele rubber products.   Seem to hold up better then some of the other brands.

Maintenance / Re: Turn signal switch replacement

Petes L 48.  thanks for the info.   Didn't know a turn signal switch had so many variations.   Agree with you....I'll pull the steering wheel & switch, & then get the correct replacement.

So...did some homework & discovered the Boyne (red) turn signal switch was installed in some Camaros, while the white/yellowish Delco switch was installed  in others.   Anyone know the background on this?

Maintenance / Turn signal switch replacement
« on: August 07, 2020, 01:46:29 AM »
Need to replace the turn signal switch on my 1968, 4 speed, floor shift coupe w/power steering.   It's a 4th week of April 1968 Van Nuys build.   I have not disassembled the steering wheel, etc. yet, as I wanted to order parts first for quicker repair.   I assume I need an 8 pin turn signal switch assembly w/connectors, or a 9 pin with the steering column lamp stuff removed.   Two questions: 1.  I see references to the emergency flasher actuator hole being either round, D shaped, or O shaped.   Any way to tell which without disassembly, and does it matter?  2.  I see "Boyne" mentioned in reference to some steering columns but not sure what that means?  Thanks.

Maintenance / Re: new tires
« on: June 24, 2020, 04:02:40 PM »
Check out Coker Tires web site.   Lot's of options.  I went with the 215/65/15's, and had the alignment & adjustments set up for radial tires, vs old factory alignment specs.  Corners & handles great (for a 1968 Camaro)
