Restoration / Re: New body?
« on: August 12, 2014, 01:32:03 AM »
I think the numbers matching stuff is neat but has turned into pocket book bragging.

Like take the big auction.   69 zl1 for example.  10k original miles full frame off restoration 100% perfect bla bla bla.  Well why the frame off ?    I also like the "auction cars". Nothing has been touched. This is the way it was.  They show a engine shot and the heads still have the coating on them.   How's that work?  Every old car I've had that has been restored or was finished when I got it the manifold turned as soon as you drove it.   You also hear fresh over hall done a lot,

If I was to buy a car to put up. Yes I would all the papers, original as possible, and matching numbers.   But for the cost of one of those you can have 3 cars to play with...

Take my 67 vette for example.  It was my dads. Beat on every day and many broken parts.  When I got it we went threw the motor.  Then I broke a gear set,  then I exploded a ring gear etc etc.    Now it's a stroker motor, forged pistons m22 gear set, Mc load clutch and replacement ring gear 4:56s etc etc.   Now by the numbers it's still "matching numbers" by the numbers.  Just don't take it apart lol.

I guess it comes down to what the owner wants to do with the car and that's fine.  But a perfect car to set and look at just doesn't do anything for me,  sorta like my friends with drag only cars.  Well that was fun for 8-9 seconds let's put it back on the trailer and go home.

It's not matching number cars,  I use all my stuff,  I picked up the wife's Denali in a blizzard.  Black on black 1 mile and hammer down.  Should I have waited. Yea probably.  It's not very shinny and you can't get the wheels clean. Did that come for the salt? Who knows but it's  awd and got me home.  Same deal on the suburan. Three tornados a hurricane and few blizzard, and about 15 hail storms.  It looks like crap but does what I need it to do.  Sunday we went threw a 2 foot deep river and up a atv trail for two miles because the kids 4 wheeler quit,  it's covered in mud. I'm sure there are new dents and tree rash,   But it did it's job

I couldn't  find the little torch. I'm assuming my son went and burnt stuff.
I used pb blaster, and most came out.  The one that didn't I just beat out or cut the metal with a saw.

Restoration / What's this parts name? Dumb question ...
« on: August 12, 2014, 01:05:15 AM »
Under the windshield you have cowl panel cover, inside that you have the wipers.  What's the metal structure called?  I looked at firewalls but it's not that.   Looked for cowl panel and it shows the one with vents and wipers holes.  Also looked at cowl panel upper?  That sorta looks like what I need?  I also saw cowl panel tanks which I could use too.

Other than the cowl panel "upper" I can't find anything that looks close.

General Discussion / Re: Original dealer info for 1st gens is available

yea i got the shaft thats for sure,

so earlier some one ask how i didnt see the rivets in the 1/4 panels,  so curiosity got to me,  dilled them out last night and the original panel is under it...

so went from this, wen sanding it  to this

how thick the crap is where the 1/4 touch the rockers.  then over course the trim was on top of it.

as for the dealer part im not sure what you mean by that,  i never said i was expert, and since your digging up old post you probably saw that i ask a lot of question before i went and looked and checked out all the places that everyone on here said to look..   the next camaro i buy ill fly you in to in to inspect with your trained eye...

as for the date,  i did find a tag that says ppc  or ppr,  on the back side it says 9-22-11  so i guess someone got parts then or maybe there was warranty that expired then or it was intalled then?    i should just another mid year,  they crack but the body doesnt rust lol.

did some last night,

Radiator support is shot,  and now the bottom of the A piller where it ties into in the rockers pannel? is rusted has freaking holes in it...   Ive looked on line but i cant seem to find that section...  Am i calling it the wrong name or is just not made.    Its the lower piece where the door bolts on, the L part of that is shot,  where it ties into the rocker panel..  Ill get a better picture  but for now,  ( photo sucks,)  that the where the front fender and door meet,  thats the part i cant find..

Here is the seat brace i was talking about earlier,

yea i paid a lot more than 4K for the car,  main reason it was " done" in my terms,   I knew there would be little things and probably a new roof skin just because of the rivit things (  the little pegs that stick up and the plastic slid on to hold the trim) also all of you said ever one of those cars needs a roof a skin..

The front pannel gap wasnt a big deal, on the passenger side,  that fender had a dent and i was planning on going radio delete,  so the hole would have to be welded up or that one replaced...    For me time is like money,  ive got two kids that are very athletic,  basket ball,  base ball,  then both made all stars on base ball and soft ball...  then both went on to travel ball..   So if i can buy a new fender for 250-300 its a lot easier for me to do that than learn to weld and it look pretty lol..

Im not worried about the cost of legal action.  I have 4 more going right now. two are personal property stuff and two are work related.   So tossing him this little one would be no big deal..  He has settled two of the 6 so far,  looks like the one against the company will go away,  ( dead beat woman wants money for free)    it always amazes me that people think they can be paid for not showing up to work....  other two going right now are over land...

I did call the dealer,  three times,   3ed time his son answered and said  " we dont know where the car came from"   which is a total different story than they told me when i went to look at it and the other cars,   also being a dealer you have a paper work trail,    then he said " go to the DMV and get a NVDIS? run..

Only thing ive thrown away is all the seat covers, head liner, carpet and of course the foam..

if i did this correctly here is the link   ill ad more photos as i  go..

General Discussion / any of you ever sued over a car you bought
« on: July 22, 2014, 04:07:15 PM »
So long story short,  i guess im going to have to get a lawer and go back on the seller of this camaro,  ever day its another rusted part.

Ad read,  30K actual mile car,  X11, factory air, V8,  New 750 carb ( lied its old as hell)  TH350 with shift kit ( junk )  New 1/4s and floor pans,  needs a little TLC

THIS IS NOT A SHOW CAR, ITS A GRATE DRIVER AND NEEDS PAINT,  THAT IS WHY ITS NOT $45K dollars...

So i called on the phone  talked to the guy,  told him my plans,  they said the car was good and would be fine for a color swap to black,  went and looked at the car, but do to weather didnt get a chance to drive it ( started pouring the snow)   I ask if we could put in on a lift and they said the lift was at there shop...

So fast forward,   I get ready to paint,     take vinyl  top off,  rust you pan put your hand threw,   need roof and roof supports,   I figured id just eat that and planned on a roof skin from what you all said....     Move on to interior to  take it out,   seats rusted, floor rusted and this new floor pan is more of piece of aluminum from lows,  and the cross brace on the drivers side where the seat bolts in is busted.  so even all 4 bolts where bolted in,  the side next to the door isnt attached to anything...  I had to throw all the seats but frames away along with all the carpet and dash pad.. they where molded and mildewed to the point that car stunk up my garage,  not to mention im deathly allergic to it.   to the point of walk by a place on the street that mold and im at the dr that night with out even going in the building...

At this point im poed,  i figured id strip the car in case i need more parts.    Rear 1/4 are on the car but they done with pop rivits and already have rust around them. They also over lapped the tops of the 1/4s so there was about half inch of bondo / fiberglass to get it level..    the truck lid has dual set of holes,  im guessing some one installed the spoiler and then shut the  trunk and it didnt line up..     Doors are in good shape which is surprising,     move on the front fenders and they have patch panels witch would be ok,  but they again used thin metal or aluminum,  pop rivet gun, AND bent the ends around and over the factory fenders and bolts,  then covered it up with fiberglass and bondo...  Not a big deal,  ill eat two fenders...    I go to take them off, and now the big metal thing that the fenders bolt to ( along with the door) has holes on both side of the weld / pinch seam?  that are the size of a base ball...      The top of the fire wall, on the passenger side behind the AC ( below the windshild)  has rust holes and has been covered up with what looks like melted fiberglass or something...      then i cut my freaking leg on the fender so i quit last night and went to the dr to get a tetanus shot...

Anyway,  so far the only thing about this car that is correct is the vin number and the mileage..  the rest has been nothing but lies..   I feel like i paid a lot of money for a $4K car,  and if they had been honest i would have never bought the car for what my plans are,  I would have bought one of those on line out of Arizona or someplace that is rust free shell...

another thing that poes me is that i told them i was doing a big block with twin turbos and the state thats car is in i believe it would have twisted its self in half,  which would not be very safe,  ad in the fact that only time i drove it was with both my kids in the car and we ridding a ticking time bomb...

Anyway any of you ever filed a law suit over something like this,  I dont care to give them the car back,  ill eat my time, labor and expenses on ins, taxes and tools, along with my now dr bill and what ive spent on materials...  or i need enough money to cover a new body...

Ill post a link to the photos...    Im not trying get anything for free,  but i dont want to eat this project,  in all honesty the car should have just been crushed..

Restoration / now what... body bolts...
« on: July 18, 2014, 02:33:44 PM »
So i havent posted in a while,  recap...

bought a 69,  car was dead straight...  went for paint ( smurf blue to black)  and well some one has second job as a sculptor,  car was full of bondo, filler, fiberglass etc...     Over the last few months ive been taking the car apart to see what all i need and taking photos along the way for the attorneys.

Well last night we ( kids and i) made it to the front end..   we got the bolts out of the top of the fenders, the noise piece, the under front bumper spoiler thing ( cant thank of the name,   and the two threw the fender into the engine compartment...   take the chrome trim off the wheel arch and BAM... no bolts...    im like there has to be bolts,  my son ( 8 )  nope... so  i go over and look... hes correct no bolts upon first glance..    take a deeper look and some retarded sob has put a patch pannels on the bottom of the fenders.  then the bent the metal around and went OVER the factory bolts...

The bottom of the fenders look good as well,  sound solid etc,  until you start to take the bolts out,  both of them snapped off on the first turn and a pile of rust came out  :(     So  question is what the heck do we do now...   I was about to the point that the blade of steel got busted out on the big saw zaw,  but the inner finders look new...

Restoration / Re: trashing all interior i guess... what to keep?
« on: July 16, 2014, 08:35:34 PM »
im trying to keep as much as i can but this stuff has never been out. some of it just falls apart,  like the side panel in the rear where the window rolls down,  and almost anything that had rubber on it or near it is gone..

I got the rest of the carpet out last night,  hope to scrape the floors and see what shape they are in,  look like either the carpet has left glue / stained / something on all of it..  almost looks like paint mixed with tar...  i started pealing it late last night,  some of it comes off like dead skin  some one you cant budge...  its like undercoating under the carpet...  the parts that it does just peel off,  its pretty blue color,  sorta of a sky blue..  not ugly smurf that was on the out side...

if you dont already own the TH400,  look into a 4L80E,  i think they have plug and play shifter boxes for them now.   its a electronic TH400 with OD for the most part...

Restoration / New body?
« on: July 14, 2014, 01:41:22 PM »
I might have hit the wrong button,  but when did all the extra stuff get added to make a post?

So sister in laws live in guy was with me at the lake this weekend, and ask  why i dont just buy the entire body instead of mix my rust.

I said mainly because of money, I thought those dynacor? bodies where $15K...   bla bla

Anyway my floors have been done at some point and look to be in good shape,   as of now my firewall is good, ( i havent taken the car that far apart yet)   the hood is good, and the doors..   Which means i need roof, roof supports, 1/4, trunk lid, front fenders etc...  I looked at this up on line and its about $4K worth of parts...   which is a lot cheaper than a new body,  but then you have labor to put it on etc etc...

Anyway question is has anyone done the new body,  or is it better to just fix what you have...   The car will be going back black so body work will have to be perfect, which im sure the new bodies will need to be worked as well.

Mild Modifications / Re: 454 Street performance combination request
« on: July 03, 2014, 02:02:27 PM »
what he said...

Just watch the compression,  if you want to stay pump gas friendly..   I went way over kill in the 90's with my vette,  its about 14 to 1 compression.   was not a big deal back then as 110 leaded was $2.99 a gallon... its not $7.99 and well i still only goes about 140 miles on a tank lol...    Its fun as poop though ;)

If i had it to do all over again that what i would do with a 454,  496 stroker 10-11 compression  nasty cam ( im a cam guy) good clutch and beat it ever day...    Only problem i have is i like RPMS,  and it cost to turn a big motor,  The msd in the vette is set at 8K  :-)   love it  threw headers and factory sides,  although my head hurts when i get home...
