Can someone tell me, could this be the original motor for my car?

We need to know more about your car to be able to determine if the engine is original to your car, but it probably is.

It kind of depends on when the car was built, but the carb is the same one used on the SS 350/auto.  The early # was 7037202 and the latter number was 7037212, and an even latter or maybe replacement number was 7037218.  I have the latter, but it needs rebuilt.

The 2004R is the easy swap.  With the 700R4 you will need to shorten the drive shaft.  I put a 2004R in my SS and have had no problems.  You can get them built to hold up better then the 700R4.  You will need to use a 400 cross member instead of the standard one.
I got my trans from http://www.phoenixtrans.com/
