Maintenance / How to clean up metal dash cluster gauge housing
« on: November 13, 2012, 11:03:18 PM »
Cleaning up some wiring in my 67 and found surface rust on the back of the metal housing when I pulled the cluster out.  I am sure this has to or will cause some problems down the road so how to I go about cleaning it up and preventing this from happening again?  Is evaporust or and/or steel wool to harsh for this?  It looks like the inside is painted white, so should I repaint? Thanks,

Joe

Any one have pictures of their original or restored to factory 67 L48 engine?  Thanks

Originality / Are these original 1967 L48 engine parts?
« on: July 08, 2012, 05:06:19 PM »
I am slowly gathering the parts needed to put my engine back to stock and want to know if these are original L48 parts that should be on.  I do not see any stampings/castings.  Here is my engine production code off my POP if that helps: V011MV (350/PG/AIR)

Also, does anyone have original pics, specs, parts and part numbers of this engine?  Thanks guys,

Joe

Restoration / Restoring engine back to points: what's needed?
« on: May 24, 2012, 07:07:13 AM »
I ultimately want to restore my 350 back to its original form.  I currently have a crane XR700 ignition, Holley 4150, and edelbrock rpm intake.

I have a 4MV quadrajet (needs rebuilding), i am on the hunt for a 3905393 intake and I found a lead on a 1111168 distributor that will be restored for me.

When going back to points, is it as simple as swapping distributors, removing the XR700 components, and dialing everything in or is there more to it?

I have begun my search for a distributor that would have came on my car (1111168 7A).  Besides the following, is there anything else to look for or does anyone have pictures as reference?

Aluminum housing
External adjustment
Single point
Blue color code
Vacuum equipped

Did 1967 console gauge cars also have a low oil pressure switch?  Was it located in the rear of the engine block (any pics)?  It was separate from the oil pressure line?    Where did the low oil pressure light come on when illuminated - dash cluster?  Thanks

Maintenance / Three electrical questions...
« on: April 21, 2012, 10:47:48 PM »
1.  This star washer fell out from behind the dash around the headlight and/or windshield washer switches, but the switches were not removed.  Where does it go?

2.  Is this yellow wire the radio power?

3.  What are these blue and brown wires near the top right of the fuse box to?

Maintenance / How to reach sail panel light connections?
« on: April 17, 2012, 12:43:32 AM »
67 with deluxe interior.

I  want to replace my sail panel courtesy light wiring harness.  How do you get to the connections?  I was lying in my trunk but my arms were still to short to reach them from the back side.  Any one have any suggestions?

I am finally getting around to installing my old factory gauges.  I decided to re-wiring my entire car (Factory Fit wiring from American Autowire) and just received everything I bought.  After looking through all the wiring, I have the following questions.

Question #1: Was the tachometer only powered by the wiring harness to the printed circuit board or will I need to run other wiring for the power, ground, and signal?

Question #2: Is my temperature sender supposed to be sticking up this much or is it not seated all the way?  I encountered some resistance when tightening it and didn’t want to force anything but don’t know if it is correctly installed.

Question #3: Is there suppose to be a ground wire under the console to the floor/trans tunnel?  Under my console there is a piece of masking tape with writing on it stating to “run ground strap to bracket”.  Don’t know if that is a factory note written or by one of the two previous owners.  If there is suppose to be one, what bracket does it connect to (seat belt, console bracket, ect)?

Question #4: Is the temperature sender wire built into another one of the harnesses I purchased or do I need to run a separate wire from the sender to the gauge?

Restoration / How to assemble oil line to block fitting?
« on: March 02, 2012, 09:49:57 PM »
I am sure this is a no brainer, but I cant seem to figure it out.

Does the small brass sleeve get inserted into nut then both go into the coupling, then into the block?

Then,

How does the oil line assemble into the block fitting?  Do I need to cut the sleeve that is attached to the line and insert that into the loose brass sleeve?

Maintenance / Questions about AC Delco Distributor caps and rotors
« on: February 11, 2012, 09:57:21 PM »
I will be buying some tune-up parts for my 67 350 (original engine) and was wondering the difference between AC Delco parts.  They have listed on Rock Auto and the AC Delco website parts catalog two different p/n's for both a cap and rotor.

Caps listed: D308R vs C349

and

Rotors listed: C435 vs D426R

Anyone know what the differences are?  I want to make sure I get the correct parts the first time.  Thanks...

Maintenance / 1967 350 Oil Filter: Canister vs. Spin-On
« on: January 17, 2012, 03:42:18 AM »
My engine currently has the spin-on type filter with adapter.  I know my 350 originally had the canister type, and have been considering switching back to the canister by next oil change.

I have only ever changed oil using a spin-on filter on all my cars.  What are the advantages and disadvantages between the two other than convenience?

If I do consider switching back over to the canister filter, is there anything else I have not listed below that I would need?

oil bypass valve
bypass valve bolts (2)
canister
filter (AC PF-141 or equivalent)
gasket

Anyone have pictures of all the parts I need for a 67 350 (in case I find them used I know what to look for)?  Thanks,

Joe

Originality / Is this the oil pressure line hole?
« on: January 10, 2012, 03:19:42 AM »
Is this the oil pressure gauge line hole and grommet just above the plastic ducting and to the right of the steering column boot?  The reason I am unsure is because my car also has an open hole behind the accelerator pedal.

Originality / Is this an OE Leaf Spring Eye Bolt & nut?
« on: October 28, 2011, 05:41:25 PM »
The bolt in question is the bottom bolt and nut?  I replaced my leaf springs about 10 years ago and now just going through some old hardware.  If I remember correctly, I bought the top bolt from a resto shop but they were longer than the originals I had.  Can anyone confirm???  Thanks

General Discussion / 1967 Tires: Diamondback vs Kelsey
« on: September 05, 2011, 10:31:00 PM »
Just tried to search for info for my 67 but found mostly 69's and some 68's.  Sorry if I missed it...

I am going to be needing new tires for my 67 RS/SS soon (14x6 FC wheels with mag hubcaps).  Safety is the biggest concern since I drive it frequently and will be going with radials no bias.

As I understand it, diamondback makes Firestone reproduction tires and Kelsey makes Goodyear repros.  Is one more correct over the other for a 1967 RS/SS with an 01C build date?  Is one brand preferred more than the other in terms of safety and quality?

What was more common for an early 67, the redline or white striped tire?  Goodyear or Firestone?  I searched their sites but did not find a D70 tire???

P.S. I know Coker is also an option but did not find much positive about them (quality and customer service) in my research so they are all but out.
