General Discussion / Jerry MacNeish Stopped By Today
« on: February 26, 2009, 08:20:44 PM »
Jerry came by to document my 68 today. It was so cool watching him do his thing. He showed me numbers on parts and places I never knew existed. I was so excited about the whole process. Here is a picture of Jerry and me in front my car. My yard looks like a Camaro swap meet since I had it all out for him to see. Anyway, great meeting you Jerry!

My 12D car does not have shoulder belts. It has deluxe interior but that probably has nothing to do with it.

When you say lots of patience, do you mean that prying it out is possible?

Restoration / Aluminum Intake Manifold Splash Sheld Removal
« on: February 20, 2009, 07:17:39 PM »
I want to remove the splash shield on my intake. The rivets are the button head type. Can they be removed intact? Or will I have to chisel or drill them in order to remove the shield? Any help would be great. If you have done this, please let me know how it worked out.

Scary stuff. When there is money on the line, the counterfeits are rampant.

Thanks Paul, I am glad to know it is a GM. They are paying some premiums for this NOS stuff so anytime I can get a break, I will take it.

Decoding/Numbers / 1967-8 RS Gas Cap GM or not?
« on: February 19, 2009, 10:04:23 PM »
Hi all, I bought this RS gas cap and it came in a GM box with correct part number 3910189. I bought it on the premise that is was GM NOS but I did not pay ebay price for it. I notice that one just like mine sold for over $180 recently. I also notice that some have screws on the back and some have rivets. Please tell me if mine is an original. I do not see a part number on it anywhere.

Thanks Danny, that is why I posted it. My car has a build date of 12D so I would not need a VIN stamped block if this seller is correct. However, I think he is mistaken. Mass production makes all kinds of errors and probably misses a stamp now and then. Jerry will know for sure.

Hey Hot Rod Todd, did you notice that the block you are asking about has the same exact assembly date as another you mentioned. A few days ago you were wondering about the Corvette Bronze 68' Z/28. It has VOIO3MO also. What are the odds, the same day. BUT, it has a VIN stamped on it and has never been decked. I have seen probably 50 of the early MO blocks and they ALL had a VIN stamped on them. Real curious what Jerry, and the guys are going to say.....Danny

What options does the car have as it is now? Does it look like an SS or RS or Z/28?

This guy is saying that this block has no VIN stamping and that they did not start this until sometime in 1968. Is this true? Or, could this be an over the counter block?

How about posting some more pics of what the car looks like!

Ok, now I have another question. I looked at the 1967 calendar: http://www.flicklives.com/Timeline/1967_cal.html .
My car is a 12D build date. So what constitutes the 4th complete week. From what date to what date? December 1st was on a Friday, so was Dec 1-2 the range for 12A? Or would it be Dec 1-8 regardless of the day of the week? In other words, would my car be built between Dec 22-29, the actual week of Christmas?
