Decoding/Numbers / Is This 12 Bolt Rear End A Restamp?
« on: March 15, 2009, 02:09:26 AM »
Date K 5 7 Axle code is BE 11 28G2 as copied and pasted from the auction. That means a late 1967 casting correct for a 1968 model car. But, I do not see any BE code axles for 1968 in my books. Looks like the BE code was not used until 1969. Could this have been assembled that early? It is listed on this site as a 2.56 axle for 1968 but no books support that. What gives?

Originality / Re: 041 Heads VS. 186s on a 302
« on: March 10, 2009, 03:10:38 AM »
I have a set of 186 heads that came factory on a 1970 Impala 300 horse 350. These are 1.94 valves. I am sure that any factory 186 for a Z/28 would be 2.02 intake valves only. They used the same casting just machined them for the bigger valves when used in a Z/28. Same goes for the 291 castings for the 1968 models.

I guess those that bid it up to $36k must not know that. Of course, the reserve is not met. He is claiming it as a real RS Z/28 non matching numbers...

I know this car is not restored to it's correct colors but do the VIN number and cowl line up correctly? It lists the VIn as    124378N370375 and the NOR body number as 16841. By my calculation this VIN should be somewhere in January 1968 but the cowl tag has 09E. Am I missing something?

I think 749 is the interior code for black houndstooth.

Jim,
I guess I don't understand what your saying here. Are you saying that you have a 12E Camaro with shoulder belts? What does the 749 mean?
Larry

Ok, I must be missing something then. Dec 1967 shows 15192 cars for the month. If I look at May 1968 they made 39,952 cars. Please explain. Here is the link to the chart:

General Discussion / Re: RE: Dallas, TX

I told Jerry he could just hire me to take care of the Southern region. I wouldn't mind flying out to cool places, ducumenting great cars, and meeting more car guys! Not to mention, shacking up at the Gaylord Texan is far from slumming! I am available!

I compared Larry's 12E VIN and body number to my 12D production to see how much difference there is. Our cars were probably made a week apart. Body number 67882-63239 = 4643 cars apart. VIN 368012-363362 = 4650 cars apart. 4650-4643 = 7 car discrepancy of body number vs VIN number. If you take 4650 divided by 759 cars per day our cars were produced around 6 days apart. I based the cars per day on 15192 for the month divided by 20 work days. If it were 912 per day they would be about 5 days apart.

I think the recession is affecting even car parts. The bubble has popped and now we are on the decline.

There was indeed a 12E date in 1967. You might read this discussion for more detail:
