Originality / Re: medium green interior, dark green dash pad?

These show it pretty well. The color looks to match up pretty well with frost green body color especially with the rosewood custom interior pieces.

The pillar post mouldings were medium green. The dash pad was most probably medium green but it has been so long since I saw it that my memory may be a little fuzzy. The dash pad went straight to the trash can long ago. I still have a few medium green pieces kicking around in a box in the garage. I know I have some decent pix I could post later if needed that I collected from other complete medium green cars.

My car came originaly medium green comfortweave deluxe interior. It had been dyed back in the '70's before I owned it and the seats had been swapped out for black standard ones. NOT a pretty color I guess. ;) It was a very rare color for a good reason.

Mild Modifications / Re: Starter for 621 Bellhousing
« on: June 10, 2009, 09:11:28 AM »
You will need a staggered bolt pattern nose cone starter. Don't say "327" engine to the parts counter guy or you will get the inline bolt pattern nose cone and it will not bolt up or work. Try asking for a 350 Corvette starter. Many 350 engines were equipped with the larger flywheel/bellhousing setup. You have to use a starter that has the nose cone that matches the bigger setup.

.019" is the setting. The 30° or .019" is for most all of the single points distributors that I have worked on.

General Discussion / Re: AC R12 Replacement
« on: June 04, 2009, 07:43:13 PM »
You can stillget R12 so just bite the bullet and get you some. The blends are more trouble than they are worth. You will not be able to top off the system if it leaks and finding a servce company that will have the refrigerant on hand and the tools for the job will be problematic.

Bottom line - do a full conversion or buy a case of R12 and hand it to a qualified technician. :)

Originality / Re: Cowl Induction Hood for 69 Camaro
« on: June 04, 2009, 06:43:01 AM »
A GM hood will have a angled notch at the rear of the side view that looks like this. A repro notch looks more squared off. You want to see the green and white part number sticker on the GM part.

The little round hood bumper cups on the underside are different on a repro as well The GM will have 3 spot welds per cup holding them on while the repros I have seen have 4 spot welds per cup. One last detail - the GM hoods will fit right.

General Discussion / Re: GM Heritage Center Info...
« on: June 03, 2009, 05:54:26 PM »
George Zapora of GM Canada can provide you with a GM Camaro model/year info packet even if your car is not in the Canadian Database. It will not be specific to your particular car details but it is informative. I just got mine from him recently. I think it was less than $50. He charged me a small fee for research as my car did not come up in the GM Canada Database. He sends out the Camaro year model GM info packet either way.  :)

Factory mistake or not, I might be inclined to get a new sticker if I was in your shoes.

Once this happened to me - The headliner ear muffs (side pieces - cardboard) have steel retaining clips that can squeek on small bumps. I had to pull the passenger side headliner side piece off to find it.  >:(

None of you seem to remember the giant motor mount recall on late 60's cars including our sacred first gen Camaros. - The car would take off at full speed WOT and the only way to stop it was to turn the ignitiion off or pop it out of gear and let the engine rev to the moon.  :o

Recalls are not a new thing here.

BTW - the 2010 Camaro also has had other problems. The computers needed to be reflashed and the front brake calipers on SS models have had lead weights added to the early units to reduce noise problems. GM has been fixing them before they even ship them out. No big deal guys. They just want them to be the best cars possible before they give them to the customers.

Get the numbers off the top of the engine block directly in front of the passenger side cylinder head. The engine suffix code was stamped there. The date code and suffix will shed some light on what you have going on in there.

The 4-barrell LM-1 was discontinued around January 69 and the 2 barrell 250 HP engine was used after that. Maybe you got caught up in that?

We all love the first gen and many of us have been or are now owners. What he says has a ring of truth to it even if he has taken some editorial liberties with the facts. If you have never seen a 2010 Camaro in person, you should. Objectively, It is nothing at all like a first gen other than some styling cues. They look like cousins but they are more like grandpa and grandson if you ask me.  ;)  There is 40 years worth of technology and innovation going up against a larger than life historical legend. They each deserve respect but different reasons.

My 2010 Camaro has been built and I am waiting for it to be delivered in a few weeks.  :)

Restoration / Re: 69 camaro BB 4 speed shifter mount
« on: May 10, 2009, 08:53:19 PM »
The original '69 Camaro/Firebird aftermarket Hurst install kit reused the original GM mounting plate per the instructions. It is one of the few cars out there where Hurst did not use the common universal plate they provided with all the other install kits.

If you buy a current production Hurst aftermarket install kit for this application, it will have a 2-piece Hurst provided mounting plate setup from the ones I have seen. It is a one year only Camaro/Firebird only situation. You have to use these special pieces of the shifter will be in the wrong place and won't fit the console.

Mild Modifications / Re: Flywheel
« on: April 29, 2009, 02:42:15 PM »
You can't mix and match the factory stuff much. 621 bellhousings will require the starter for the large flywheel AND the larger flywheel. The flywheel can be drilled with both clutch patterns and either large or small clutch will work but the smaller flywheel will not work inside a 621. The flywheel does physicaly fit inside the bellhousing but the starter nose cone that is required to drive the smaller flywheel will not bolt up.
