Cast Blast "Cast Iron" rattle can is not technically correct but looks pretty good for a driver.

To Blackout Steve
Does the Methylated spirits work for just normal watery gas like we have her in California and can it be used all the time or? I blow so much moisture out of the tail  pipes at times I can't believe the car actually runs but I mix the 91 unleaded with leaded 111 race gas so that really helps!
Will the Methylated spirits conflict with the leaded gas and cause any problems you know of?
Thanks for the help

The moisture out the tailpipe is just a byproduct of combustion. You will get CO2 and H2O (and lots of other things too) from combustion. It condenses inside the tailpipe and you blow it out at start up. You will not see much of it once the exhaust system heats up fully because water exits as a gas above 212° or so.

I have a full set of 4 on my '69. They are not technically correct if you know what to look for. They are very good service replacements that look slightly different than production line springs. If you don't know what to look for this is not an issue. :)

BTW - I was not happy with the ride height once they were on the car (too high) so I took some measurements and they made me a new set and shipped the second set out to me no extra charge. When I got the second set installed they were DEAD NUTS PERFECT all the way around. They sent the UPS guy to come and pick up the first set from me to ship them back. That is good customer service.

thank you for the advice. would that be in the assembly manual, or where would I look to see about adjusting it? Also if it is not an adjustment issue, just an old original part, Stingr69, what is the part number for the actuator? thanks for the help as always fellas
GM # 1114427. It is in the AIM under "ZL2"

I see the repros that have the part number embossed into the side and they claim it is like original. I have not seen that embossed number on an original GM piece but I have not seen them all so who knows. The GM ones I have seen did not have the number embossed on them.

Aftermarket repro or original GM actuator solenoid?  The aftermarket stuff is never great. I had an aftermarket one that did not work well so I bought a used GM piece on Ebay and that one works great. You need to search for an actuator off a C3 Corvette as they are the same GM part number but you don't have to pay the '69 Z/28 added markup tax. ;)

The flap will (supposed to) open all the way. ;)

The 2-barrell 327 and the 4-barrell LM-1 350 were gone before the ZL-2 hood was available so you had to have one of the other available HP options to get it.

You would require an engine combination that had a 4 barrell carb to mate up with the air cleaner. That would eliminate any base engine vehicles.

General Discussion / Re: 1969 Camaro A.I.R. pump
« on: October 05, 2011, 08:34:17 AM »
The AIR pumps used on Buicks and Caddys etc. all look very simmilar to the Chevy AIR pump and use the same "149" iron cast end cap. I used to scavenge the boneyards looking for smog stuff. Many Chevys had the smog removed early on but the GM luxury models seemed to have a better chance of keeping the smog system intact even after all these years. Some small parts, check valves and pieces of the system will interchange but not all. The AIR pump housings in particular have the "through" holes and "tapped" holes in different places from brand to brand so they look right at first glance but Caddy pumps will not actually bolt up to a Chevy.

Be aware that the "149" casting number AIR pump is not rare or unique. That casting is used for a number of years and on several different product lines. For example, a 73 Buick or Cadddy would use the same AIR pump casting with the "149" on the back but the pump housing is machined differently so it will not bolt up to a 69 Chevy.

I believe that is up under the rear "shoulder". Kind of near the rear window corner? Look up from inside the trunk over the wheel housing area. I think you can see it there.

The Metro is probably too hard. You might give the Classic Headquarters version a try. That is what I used and fit was never an issue.

You will have to either piece it together (only if the damage is REALLY minor) or remove the quater panel to replace the outer wheel well.

Restoration / Re: Who does steering box rebuilds?
« on: August 27, 2011, 11:43:31 AM »
I used Tom Lee as well. It came out well. He did stamp his rebuilder serial number in the aluminum cap and I would have rather it not be there but otherwise it looks and works as good as new.

He did strongly try to talk me into increasing the steering effort to give me a little bit better road feel but I went for 100% original. He was right - I should have went with the more effort mod. The box is a little too easy to turn as it is now. A little more effort in the box would have given more road feel. If I had it to do over, I would definately do that mod. This was on a fast variable ratio setup.
