Restoration / Re: outer wheelhouses
« on: August 09, 2012, 06:21:24 PM »
I was in your shoes before. Get the best ones you can find and afford. I know the cheap repro ones I got were TRASH! and it was the biggest pain in the rear to try to make them fit. Throw the bad ones in the trash.

Yes they are. There are a few threads here with pictures. The AIM also has some drawings that show the special hangars.

General Discussion / Re: Black Houndstooth or Custom Weave
« on: August 03, 2012, 06:35:37 PM »
I do not think you can get any actual "comfortweave" these days. Someone correct me if I am wrong but the repro comfortweave stuff you can get these days just looks like the original breathable fabric but it is actually solid vinyl textured surface.

Maintenance / Re: Fuel Pump
« on: July 30, 2012, 07:29:35 PM »
I had a very old AC fuel pump on my engine that was working fine for over 25 years that I had it but to tell you where I was at during the engine rebuild - I pulled it off and replaced it with a new pump from NAPA. The old pump WILL fail some day. You could have a fire and you probably will be stranded no matter where it happens. Changing it out now for a brand new pump is CHEAP and reliable insurance. Most of the car show attendees won't care that much about an "original" fuel pump.  Just not worth the risk on that critical part. JMO.

Originality / Re: 4 clip trim ring

I have a set of repro 4-clip trim rings and they have never come off without me pulling on them. Go ahead and run them!

Maintenance / Re: Octane boost
« on: July 17, 2012, 02:19:46 AM »
I have used Torco in my supercharged 2010 SS and it does the trick. There are times when I can not find 93 Octane gas and I MUST run additive or risk engine damage. No downside that I can tell. I keep a can in the trunk for road trips. You can buy it direct or from Amazon. I think buying direct is cheaper on the freight.

Originality / Re: Are these original 1967 L48 engine parts?

That oil filler cap looks to be a common parts store replacement manufactured by Stant. They look very close, but not original.

Originality / Re: Speedo cable Clips

I have a 10A '68 built Norwood 69 Camaro that does not have the speedo clips on the underside of the floor and I have looked pretty hard for evidence. Original Muncie car.

Originality / Re: 69 camaro door sill emblems
« on: May 17, 2012, 03:21:38 PM »
There was a guy that was selling some custom made sill plate rivits that you could use to attach the emblems. Very reasonable as I recall. They were just ever so slightly larger but looked good for a high quality driver or mid level show car. If anybody wants some just let me know. I think I can dig up his email somewhere and PM it to you.

Mild Modifications / Re: 69 Oil Pressure Gauge
« on: May 03, 2012, 04:06:49 PM »
Problem with copper is that it is supposed to be subject to work hardening. The best bet is to purchase the better line kits. Some factory oil pressure guage lines were copper plated steel. See if you can get one of those.

I found "LG-7" on my passenger side rear bulkhead. The interior paint parts would need to be "light green" (officiallly medium green) on this car. That is a rare interior color so the unusual bulkhead marking might have been a heads up to the Fisher interior paint guy but as far as I know this has never been confirmed or investigated. Other examples in other colors have been observed. They were not all "X" markings on the bulkhead.

I also found "RGRN" on the engine firewall. That would match up with the "Rally Green" body paint.

General Discussion / Re: 1969 Z28 Camaro master cylinder
« on: April 12, 2012, 03:41:04 PM »
I believe the bleeder screws on the original master cylinders were only used for production line purposes and never used in service.

-Mark.

We didn't use them in production, and we didn't use the bleeders at the calipers and wheel cylinders either; we evacuated and filled the brake system through the little compensating port in the bottom of the master cylinder reservoir.  :)

Thanks for the correction John.  I am sure you are right.

Originality / Re: "HO" coil springs
« on: March 04, 2012, 09:14:31 PM »
Possibly they were used there as well but who knows.

I have a single fuel line so I doubt my car was one of those. Too early for ZL-1, not on the list, DG3 on the rear seat bulkhead.  Original chabered exhaust car. Hard to say what it was originally with any certainty. The possibilities are mind boggling. I had to just believe the DG-3 crayon mark and run with it. I will keep the car and the springs indefinately just in case better info comes along some day.
