General Discussion / Re: 1968 CamaroZ/28 Paint Code KK

I posted this on CRG in 2015. Punching the VIN up on Google brings up this site ONLY. Here it is again for sale with VERY little info. Just 4 or 5 lines and no important pictures. I didn't save pad pictures, but it seems there were some cause it's talked about. Danny

There is NO reason not to have good clear close-up high-resolution pictures. It's just not that tough to accomplish. SO MANY cars for sale with PERFECT pictures... THEN come the blurry Block/Trans/Rear pictures. ... Danny

Well, I am looking at that speedo gear number and it says it is for an automatic? Does it matter?... Danny

Well, as the original poster, that turned into something I didn't expect. I understand both sides of this discussion. I got hammered for asking about cars too often. And expecting that it only takes 10 seconds to check the DB, I was wrong. So I have and will continue to curtail my requests. I figured the stamp was deeper on the right, like the samples above, and lighter on the left, because the gang holder was held at a slight angle. Maybe that is partially true at times. What I don't understand is what looks like sand blasting, and the removal of the factory broaching for a number's repair/change. Maybe there are some samples of that being done at the factory. I, and it seems MANY other people, had never saw that before. My friend has decided to pass on this car due to the stamp, and partially because of the price. Thanx for all the info that CAN be released. D

As far as I know the speedo is functioning properly. I installed a new cable a while back. Since I bought the car I have put about 5,000 miles on it. And the odometer shows that....

Thank you for the gear info, that is EXACTLY the info I was hoping for. I will start my gear experiment soon. D

WOW.. I would have thought after 80 or 100 MPH it would be off. That's the way those old cars worked. But reading 65 but actual speed is 75, that sucks. Any trick to make it more accurate between 50 and 75?  Less teeth or more teeth?
Using that tire chart site   373 X 20.2 = 7,534.6   Divided X 26.73 = 28. Only 17 to 24 tooth gears on the chart... SSSOOO? No 28 or 3.73 on that chart... Just thought maybe someone knew that a certain gear with my set-up is more accurate. D

I forgot the word gear. I don't need the trans gear info. D

I was told by a friend that I was traveling 75mph. My speedo said 65. He used a satellite application on his cell phone for the speed and pulled up to match my speed. It was EXACTLY 10mph fast. What is the speedometer cable tooth/color. It has a black one I think with 22 teeth in it now.
Transmission is a 4-speed M21 with 3.73 rear axle gears. Tires are Good-Year Wide Tread GT with 3.73 and only 100 miles on them. I see MANY colors and charts online ALL giving different teeth counts with the same color? ... Danny

Mr. Kurt,
Any reason why the last 3 of the VIN are WAY bigger and WAY deeper? Why is the "M" virtually invisible? Are there other known stamps from this time period that duplicate this? Just trying to learn... D

My friend is looking at this car to purchase/restore. He sent me some pictures. I don't have the knowledge. Block looks sand blasted and re-stamped? My luck it's all original and a FACTORY re-stamp. Either way, I don't like it... Opinions... Danny

Here is a shot of it. It is double embossed AC. I just have never seen such small inlet/outlets like that. D
