Hey guys, just picked up a set of 3 Rally wheels from an old friend. Couldn't find the code in any of my books. Could it be they are AFTER 69'. Cause I have no knowledge of anything after first gen. Probably going to sell them and just wanted to at least know what they fit and how much they may be worth. Here is the letter and numbers. Any help would be appreciated.........Danny

Hey Guys, just a piece of advice from a rookie. ANYTIME I see something like this, I give false info to the seller. I would say my block is special and has an extra number, and there is only 9 ever made. Then I email them 645926574 or similar. If he emails back in two days and says he has it.....well.... you know the rest. If he emails back and says, sorry I don't have it but I have some others. THEN I say my friend is also looking for his car. Then I give MY REAL block number, and go from there.........Danny

Decoding/Numbers / HELP!! 1969 Z28 on eBay--Authentic??
« on: March 11, 2009, 08:14:13 AM »
Hey gang, doing some research on this car. Jerry, anybody, what do ya think. Does she all seem right? Does anybody know this car back in Jersey? Too much time between the casting date and assembly date?? 196 people here on CRG read this but no response. How could that be, should my friend and I be scared.

Decoding/Numbers / Re: eBay VO127DZ no VIN w/ - A 17 8 - Cast date??
« on: February 23, 2009, 04:25:49 PM »
Hey guys, if I had to guess I would say it's a nine. Look at the size of the TOP of the 8 in relation to that number. It is way smaller. In fact it would just about fit inside the top of that number. So from a non-pro guy, I would bet money it's a nine. It also sweeps around like a nine, like a six upside down. ? Again, just my thinking on it........Danny

Decoding/Numbers / Re: 1968 V0103 MO stamped block with no VIN
« on: February 18, 2009, 06:35:47 AM »
Hey Hot Rod Todd, did you notice that the block you are asking about has the same exact assembly date as another you mentioned. A few days ago you were wondering about the Corvette Bronze 68' Z/28. It has VOIO3MO also. What are the odds, the same day. BUT, it has a VIN stamped on it and has never been decked. I have seen probably 50 of the early MO blocks and they ALL had a VIN stamped on them. Real curious what Jerry, and the guys are going to say.....Danny

General Discussion / Chevrolet Vacation Dates for the Holidays
« on: February 05, 2009, 01:23:43 AM »
Hey Guys and Gals, anybody know how many actual days Chevrolet assembly lines shut down for the holidays in 67', 68', 69'. Or did they even shut down at all? I was told many years ago that they took vacations for Thanksgiving, and X-mas. But nobody could say how many actual WORK days were taken. Did they just take the average Thursday-Friday and the weekend. And then back on the Following Monday?. And was it different at each plant I.E. NOR or LOS.........Thanx.... Danny

General Discussion / Re: DZ BLOCK NUMBERS HELP
« on: January 21, 2009, 07:00:06 AM »
Hey, just looking thru some posts and seen this......My trick that I have done in the past for numbers is similar....I needed to see the numbers under the cowl panel. So I sharpened a piece of soap stone. You know the long skinny one welders use to mark steel. And I carefully shaved it down to fit. Then reached it in and wiggled it back and forth over the area. Then hit it at a 45 degree angle with a light burst of air and presto. Numbers filled for identification. Take your picture and you could just wash or blast it away if you wanted to clean it back up. Anyway, I am sure there are a bunch of those tricks. I just liked mine cause it was my idea I guess. And very NON permanent. And the white stood out like the yellow on the block..... D

General Discussion / Re: 68' Z/28 Hold off Valve
« on: January 19, 2009, 07:01:03 AM »
Well guys thank you all VERY much for the info so far. Seems they really can be dated anywhere from 20 days to 6 weeks! Thanx for all the effort. Digging thru the snow and the like. I have seen some cars with out the valves my self. And I have heard them called 6 different things. BUT, I will not cause a stir about this, and I will quite calling it a hold-off valve. Funny cause it DOES hold off SOME fluid to the rear brakes. Heck it is even metering the amount that travels back there. All the while letting just a certain proportion thru. OK, had to do that sorry.......Worked 12 hours straight today with no lunch. Just two bottled waters. Gotta call it a night.........Danny

Thanx Billy, that's a good start. Hopefully more Z/28 owners chime in... especially early to mid year 68' owners. Has to be somone out there that has a later in Jan. 68' build date. Would be nice to get an LOS built car close in date.......Danny
