General Discussion / Real or Fake Cowl Hood
« on: May 12, 2010, 09:03:46 PM »
After looking at the yellow pictures here on the topic of real or repro cowl hoods, I was wondering if there was a number some place. Is there any numbers on the underside of a real Chevy cowl hood from 69'? I am sure there is a thread for it, could someone post it for me? Or just reply would be great also. Thanx......Oh, and welcome back everyone............Danny

Hans L, I am not really sure about that much of a stretch, 3 or 4 months seems like a long time. They would have had to have ALOT of wheels laying around still, and hold production while they went thru them all. I don't know, I am just speculating. They of course could not be asked for RIGHT when they were needed, so they had to have some stock laying around, but 1000's??? I think you are correct on the batch building of wheels from what I have learned from the guys on this forum. And I don't think weekly dates are available. Seems like Jan of 69' has 2 build dates, MAYBE 3. That would be 1/10/69 and 1/28/69 as you mentioned. I am still thinking I might want some 1/28/69 wheels, or even from the first batch of Feb. 69' {anybody got any?} as I now have a few 1/10/69, all "YH" of course. Oh well, the mystery continues. Good times Eh?......Danny

Hey JohnZ, I just sent ya an email about some wheels I am looking at. Thought I would see if I could catch ya here, and have ya check your email..Danny

Sauron327 ya got me. I don't know what I did wrong. I was punching in everything every which way. Oh well, got the pictures.

SO ggtsvnv...So now I know that all X33's {norwood} cars would need the X33 to be an R/S. But I am a little confused. So are you saying that an LA built COULD be an R/S? The guy that gave me the info said that ONLY X33 cars could be R/S period and all others were fake. But there is no X33 out of LA. What's it called in LA? I know when the X codes started. So could there be some R/S out of LA before the X codes?

I just knew that I have seen LA built cars with the R/S option that seemed to be original and factory. .....Danny

Hey JohnZ, I didn't know your car was also an 02D car. That's cool. Maybe I could shoot ya also some questions about this car. And thanx to z28302dz also. However I feel stupid but I don't know how to access my message board thingy. How do I get there to get your number?

I was trying to get to many things at one time, and after vacation and that swine flu adventure I had no income for over 30 days. Not a dollar! So I am trying to look at getting one car and it is an 02D car. It's not mine yet, but I am working on it. So I would appreciate the help as it has some component issues.....Danny

I have a 528 CCW plate and don't wanna throw it out if it's something cool or rare. It could be for a 72' six cylinder station wagon for all I know. I am going to replace it with a 532 CCW. Just wanna make sure it isn't something I should hang on to, or sell and maybe get a few bucks.........Danny

I was just told that there is NO X77 R/S Z/28's. And that all real R/S Z/28's had to have the X33 code??? And if I see an X77 car with that option it is fake. What the heck, did I not know this, or did I forget this info. Is this guy wrong? Am I losing it?

Also, could somebody please forward me the picture, or add it to this question of the yellow Cowl hood that shows a real Chevrolet make. It was on a thread a few days back. Someone was asking how to tell the difference between real and after market. And some one posted a side ways picture of a hood. It has certain lines in it that show factory make. I think it was yellow. I punched 20 different things in the search box and could not find it...Thanx guys.....
 ...Danny.

z28302dz, is your car documented original, with all original components? And if so, would I be able to talk shop with you via email about some things on our cars?....Danny

General Discussion / 69' Z/28 Distributor Date
« on: April 06, 2010, 12:03:13 AM »
Would a Jan. 20th 69' 480 Distributor be an ok date for a 4th week of feb. 69' build? That would be between 30 and 34 days. That's counting all saturdays and NO sundays. Sundays would add another 5 days.      And we're distributors installed on the assembly line?

1691
Well no wonder my set of 4 are "FW". Maybe I can find someone to purchase mine after getting what I need. Throw them on eBay or the like. And save a couple hundred bucks towards the YH wheels.

1692
Thanx Chris, I just went online for the heck of it and found a few "YH" wheels for sale. Alot WAY past my build date. But one actually dated Jan. 28th 69. Or so he says. But it almost looks to me like it is KI9  11   28. It kinda looks in the picture like there is another "1" next to it just not stamped well. Which would go along with your theory of the 26th being the only Jan. 69' date. Go take a look and see w3hat ya think. I think I will stay away from that one for now. And go ahead and concentrate on the 1-11-69 date. I think you are right about my buil;d date as it would be maybe on my build DAY, or a day or two before. However my car COULD have been built on Fri. the 28th, and the shipment could have come in and they grabbed wheels and put them on. But I like your info and logic better. Especially since it takes time to get them stamped, painted and shipped off to the factory and so forth. Thanx again also on the clip amount.........Danny

Well guys I got a little behind on Camaro issues. Went on vacation and got myself the Swine Flu. Just about killed me, not kidding, for real! 18 Days later I am still not 100% but back in action a little.
I still need to know the average amount of time 15 X 7 Rally wheels should be dated prior to the build of the car. I need to find some wheels and don't know what date to look for. And if they should ALL be the same date. And if not, how many days apart seems to be the norm? PLEASE HELP!

1694
JDV, see what I mean. I wonder if your spare was changed out at one time.
I also wonder if it makes a difference depending on car. Right now all I REALLY care about are Z/28's

I always wondered about this. Maybe some experts will chime in.....I would be real curious to see what the data shows..Danny

ALSO, I forgot....Should the trim rings for the same car have hold-on clips ALL the way around, or just the 4clips? Does the date make a difference what trim ring was used??....Thanx AGAIN..Danny
