Thanx again, yes it is scary as it seems some of you lived it already, and in more ways then one. I actually take care of my Father about 35 weekends a year. And live in a 33 foot 5th wheel on his property. Gave up a HUGE place with a couple thousand square feet of dry storage. But he is 84 and my Mom died of liver Cancer in 04', so gotta do it. I can't stay in the trailer cause I am not hooked to the sewer. The tank gets pumped every 3 weeks or so. BUT, it could poison the guy, his helper and anybody close by. So it's off to my friends house again.

I don't think there is a Camaro in my future. At least not near. It was 100K JUST for the surgery, I have to pay 30K of that! And as you know, the list goes on and on. Never ends, good times, living the American dream..

Go Giants!!

HOLLY CRAP... Thank you all SO MUCH!!! What a HUGE out pouring of support. I never have seen anything like it. I don't know what to say..  ;D ;D

I guess I better start by saying thank you all very much for leaving this post up. I guess it's pretty non-related but I felt compelled as I enjoy being here with you guys.
The surgery was 6 hours! Recovery at one friends house for 8 days, then another friends for 4. With my Dads property issues, and his dementia, and other friends with heart attacks, computer probelms and the whole game of life, I have neglected to keep up with email etc. Talk about good friends... I was given 10K CASH to help with my bills. Don't have to pay it back!
The surgeon told me he could take a thyroid out in less than an hour with a steak knife. BUT, I had 3 big tumors that had to come out. And 20 lymph nodes. 18 had Cancer. So it was a central and a left node dissection. He said he hasn't had to cut like that in a long time. I am still pretty dizzy when I look straight up or straight down. I guess it takes a while to get all that medicine out of me that they used to knock me out. Crazy!! So missing a lot of work and trying to do some small jobs. I go on a special no iodine diet for 14 days. Then I take the radioactive iodine treatment and go in to isolation for 7 days. Can't be with-in 7 feet of anybody for those 7 days or they could get infected. Hopefully that does it and no radiation. I am rambling now, you all get it. Thanx and looking forward to catching up on all the fun posts on Camaro's. No worries on my info being private.
Daniel J. C. is correct. Address and phone number if it's ever needed not a problem. And I WAS and will be back at UCSF in San Fran. Nice detective work... Over and o... wait a minute, I am not OUT yet. Danny...

Well guys, long story short I got myself a case of the Cancer. I found 3 large tumors in my throat Jan 1st of 2013 while shaving. I checked the other side and of course there was nothing there. Had them tested 7 months later and they all came back malignant. A couple of you know about this already. I have thyroid Cancer. If it was just regular thyroid Cancer it would be a snap. While this would normally be a 45 minute to 1 hour operation, it is deep in my limp nodes and behind my clavicle. Which they can't get to. Went to a hospital in San Francisco and got the bulk of the bad news. Anyway, I go to the city tomorrow, then the 6 hour surgery is Tuesday at 6am. Then radioactive iodine treatments, and radiation after that. If all that doesn't work, then I was told to get my affairs in order. They gave me a 65% chance of survival. While I wish it was 90%, it's surely better than 30%.
I know none of you are my personal friends, but just wanted to say... just in case... it has been SO FUN hanging out with you all online. I am sorry if I hurt anybody. Take Care of yourselves and I will hopefully be back online after all this recovery and treatment is done with. Over and out... Danny

General Discussion / Fredd Gibb ZL 1 on eBay.. Rebodied?
« on: March 01, 2014, 06:54:23 PM »
So here is a nice car but it has been re-bodied. They always say in their adds in a very sly sort of way how it was done. This one was "Mated" with another 69 body. Now as far as I am concerned it is NOT the same car. It is NOT the same car that left the factory complete as a new ZL -1 427 Camaro. You can read the books, listen to the music, wear the clothes, watch old movies... BUT YOU CAN'T GO BACK!! I don't care if they have ALL the documentation in the world. It's not the same car! Why it's at 80K I have no idea. That means I can buy just a 427 that is for sale online with COPO documentation, but no car, throw it in a base model 6 cyl. landau top Camaro and call it a COPO? I don't think so Mr.   There is no trick to this. If you buy THIS car, you DON'T own a COPO... Sorry.. You own part of a car that USED to be a COPO! You wanna change some fenders and quarters with NOS parts, do yourself a resto, well then you STILL have the original car. I know you are not putting it in a 69' road runner. But just because you happen to pick the same model body, doesn't make it a REAL COPO! All the nuances and markins, hidden vin's are just NOT THERE... Right? Trying to make the cowl tag look like it belongs, hell it doesn't even look like a REAL tag. This is Camaro with a big engine. Estimated value = About 52 to 60K at the TOP... maybe... Danny

I can tell ya right now I would volunteer to get lowered down there tomorrow if I could. I remember in 86' I was working on an off shore oil rig 7 days a week 12 hours a day. We were building it for Chevron. After completion to haul it away they had one of two of the biggest pieces of Eq. I had ever seen. One was one of two cranes that are the largest in the world. The other was a carrier out of japan, also one of the biggest in the world. They lifted that sucker up and put it on the carrier like it was a bag of candy. I think it was in two pieces, but still. Of course they wouldn't need THAT crane, but why would you leave ANY of them down there. Hook them up and pull them out one at a time. What's the problem. They make chain and cable plenty long enough. Have them contact me if they want someone to be lowered in the hole ... Danny

It does look like actual wood. I see what ya mean by the spokes being bent at the ends right before going in the wood. Somebody fooled with this wheel don't ya think?  ???

Here it is loosely translated to English. WOW, that was a lot of work!!

"Rome was not built in a day! "This phrase applies perfectly to project Kiki D. Wood. Before exposing his Camaro on Nitro stand Automédon lounge, Kik has worked hard to achieve such a project. To him the word! (text and pictures Kiki D. Wood supplement to Article Seven Year Itch, appeared in Nitro 268 February-March 2014). It's fun to see people's reactions that flash on my car! Once two people ask me if it is an import, or the address of the studio responsible for the restoration. To think back, it's pretty flattering, because it proves that I reached my goal was to get closer to the U.S. restorations. The most important and the most fun is to be revived Camaro, giving it a slightly different look kit chrome rims Summit with American Racing Torq Thrust and Cooper Cobra tires. The heart of this hobby is with this passion that you put into working all weekend. On one side, you often wonder what a pain you are stuffed. On the other hand, you persevere because you think the magic moment when you turn the ignition key and can finally hear the sound of the big block! Place images "backstage"! It is in an Auto Trader number purchased at 7-Eleven I noticed the announcement of a 1969 Camaro posted 12,000 dollars. The same evening, I go to the seller and I concluded the sale having scraped 500 dollars. Since the beginning, I intend to build a replica of COPO Camaro. This coupled with its 350 its auto TH350 box, my base is not ideal. But my big mistake is to take an air-conditioned car, which will generate a lot of sheet metal work, small mods, or research specific to non air-conditioned rooms as heating box totally different models. Last photo of the Camaro with the seller, handshake before my first ride on California roads. Branch Whittier, at John Canales, a friend. On the road that night, before impromptu stop at Boyds on Lambert Boulevard, Whittier. Today, with the decline and disappearance of Boyd Coddington, it takes me to another matter. In June, I returned to California to do a report on the LA Roadster Show. I wish to do my shopping at Classic Industries and delivered the Camaro at DEI in Gardena. In autumn 2006, the Camaro landed in France. She traveled in the company of Mustang Christian Mazure for his establishment Pacific Garage. That looks like your car that travels in a container! It sounds basic, but it's very well designed!. The arrival of the Camaro goes smoothly. Some pictures to immortalize the database before processing. This is Romain, a friend, who is responsible to finish the rear tires with her two offspring, Hugo and Leo. Is do they remember one day to the point of making a street machine, thinking at that time that will be scored? Time will tell! Note the reg plate in black marker! After the cloud of smoke from burn out, it's time to tackle the serious things. The front end is the first step of disassembly. To save space, it is deposited at once. No time to lose during disassembly, remains the easiest phase. With the help of my friends and Gérard Yann, mechanical cradle and do not stay long on the car. They find their place six years later. Once the major organs removed, I start scratching the white paint, perceiving that she flakes easily. Note the green painting'' Green'' Frost in the middle of the wing and a white paint flakes. With the manufacture of the pan, see the hull perched so high is unusual. 170 euros steel tube will be amortized very quickly by the quality of work permitted by this tool. Once finished scraping paint, sanding sander is performed followed by a blue phosphating primers. Desiring a perfect job, I said that the blasting was the best solution to remove those little black oxidation points. The only concern is the cleaning sandblasting sand rushing into every corner of the car. The first piece to be replaced is the rear skirt shabby with a thickness of mastic bordering centimeters in some places. With rotisserie, this step is going very well.  Very corroded, the heating box is soldered. Meanwhile the new part, I focus on the firewall. Along job is to blow one at a spot welds. The view of the hull without the firewall remains one of the highlights of this project. The new SDU is primed to ensure optimum protection before welding.

camaro-zl1-kiki of wood-build-25A receipt of new housing into two parts, its installation is a formality with a professional welder by points.

camaro-zl1-kiki of wood-build-26camaro-zl1-kiki of wood-build-27camaro-zl1-kiki of wood-build-28camaro-zl1-kiki of wood-build-29The Work continues with the replacement of damaged parts floors. Despite having the whole piece, I recovered that I need to repair. The first step is cutting the diseased part and the report on the new part. After tracing and cutting, mig welded to it (the four pictures below). The last spot welds made, they must be ground inside and outside before proceeding to the preparation phase. This is the time to ask sealants on both sides, even if inside, carpet and insulation hide all (the first photo and cons below). When you are involved in a big project like this, the installation of a primer and a layer of protection is a result! The next day I applied a layer of gray satin polyurethane to duplicate a primer before spraying Fathom Green to reproduce the fog factory paint. One of the most important moments is the rest of the body on its wheels. At that moment, I said a big page is turned.
When Fred, home Amplitude Bike, back to our local Buick GS 400 Gege, I asked him to give me a quote. 5 minutes later, he returned with my Camaro on his tray. The half-frame masking was done using thick trash bags for enclosing at maximum. No piece of tiro will stuck on the frame outside the areas under the body. Fred was responsible in Amplitude Bike Mustang projects TF1 Car. Change my wings Camaro is for him a formality. Setting primer completes the purely sheetmetal part of the project. After months of effort, the day of the painting is the highlight of any project which respects. The vision of the Camaro in the paint booth gives me chills! Two hours later, the Fathom Green is not yet dry when I take this shot. At this point I began to dream, but the hard part! After a good drying period, I load sanding nail polish for phase-polishing. First of all, the 1200 and 1500 I use, before finishing with 3000 Trisak moistened. Left the door was sanded with 1500. On the right, the rear wing has been sanded with 3000 Trisak water. Note the "brilliant" is already back on the wing. The polishing is performed with a polishing machine set on low speed using the buffer liquid and the polishing 3M. Three kinds of products are needed with their respective buffers to boost the glossy. Before after! Here's the full report after the polishing of the body. The painting has lost its grain spray, ensuring incomparable brilliance. The first big phase winding for the engine, which will be installed with the Muncie M22 gearbox in place. To do this, we must protect at-risk areas in the path of the box. Above, the all-aluminum ZL1 bench at JPL in Laval (Quebec)! Although the power of 510 hp is not calculated to the wheels, there is still enough horses to scare with a 3.73 Posi and Goodyear Wide Tread period! Above, the same once unpacked from its crate from Canada. The whole engine / gearbox is secured to a hydraulic goat using anchors Chevy original . It was at this moment that I realize the low weight of ZL1 .

camaro - zl1 - kiki of wood -build- 54The final winding lasts more than a year in Amplitude Bike. Once mounted and finally settled wings, the Camaro takes more space.

General Discussion / Re: 69 Z/28 Barn Find??

Maybe found in a barn or barn/like building where it was stored. Big deal, that means nothing. This is by no means a survivor. It just happens to be a low mileage car that is now for sale. It was beat to hell at the track, repainted, tons of wrong parts and numbers, from the Master cylinder up and down and then parked. Needs restoring for sure, thousands of dollars worth. There are so many nicer cars out there for the same money or less that J.M has documented that I would rather have it isn't funny. This guy is a classic car novice who sells diesel trucks for a living. I am not impressed... Danny

General Discussion / 69' Z/28 on eBay... What a Car!
« on: January 12, 2014, 06:54:52 AM »
This is how you are supposed to post a for sale ad for a classic car. Besides the obvious repop warped dash pad, a few other things including finish issues, this is a heck of a nice car. Many stamps to look over. What say all of you? Trim Plate - Trans stamps - block front pad stamps - etc. etc. All look good?? Cause I am about to get a loan...  ;) ;) Is this car in the DB??
