General Discussion / My New '68 Camaro Z/28 Butternut Yellow
« on: July 17, 2014, 07:17:20 PM »
My girlfriend seen me interested in this car, and how I was watching the rebuild of Chick's Butternut Yellow Z/28 and bought this car. Seems to be original from the air cleaner wing nut to the wheels excluding water pump, hoses, belts, battery, battery cables, Rad cap { anybody have one } and small misc items. Even the exhaust is original. Had Cowl Plenum system installed, and stolen while in storage? Comes with POP, and Owner Protection booklet. I wanted to run the plates but all of my highway patrol and local cop buddies have retired. The DMV here in CA says the plates are still in another name. NCRS paperwork shows GM overseas distribution, possibly the Netherlands.
I spent well over 100 hours getting info.

Seems the first owner drove it for just about 6.5 months give or take a week of days. Put A LOT of miles on it, about 18,590. Don’t have his name, not on any early receipts…Maybe traded it in to “Central Chevrolet”  in Fremont, CA Late '68 or early '69. Delivery states overseas dealer, possibly the Netherlands. But could have been ordered from overseas, but picked up here state side. Maybe shipped or not, don’t know. Probably a serviceman.

Sat on the lot in CA for 3 months? Person I believe is the second owner Richard Ward Anderson lived in Santa Rosa, CA (?) and seen the ad from that dealership and purchased the car March 26th ‘69 and kept it until the late 80’s. Lived in Santa Rosa but also had a house in Pebble Beach? As there is a receipt from Santa Rosa a while after purchase, then scattered receipts all from around Monterey County. But may have bought some tires and spark plugs around 4 of ’69 in Santa Rosa. Although his name is not on THOSE receipts. Then subsequently parked it in Pebble Beach inside a garage near the coast for a while. Registration trail ends in ’89 ? Then a guy bought it and had it for many many years and never registered it in his name. Then his friend bought it from him 2 years ago. It was titled in his name with a current pink slip in another state, but still had the original CA plates.   YKZ 821

Car underside has slight faded Yellow underneath and in great condition. Has all original floors, trunk and GM panels. Looks to be a true Survivor! Not a major dent in it anywhere! 56K original Miles. Fires right up and runs good. No major rot. But a little silver dollar spot at usual area bottom body by door. And some around rear window left side.  All original paint. Heater core leaking, bypassed. Front bumper bowed at right center slightly. No #3908326 proportioning valve on drivers frame. Please look it over and let me know what you can spot good or bad. And if you have a connection for past documentation of any kind or ownership.... Danny

Trans-Am Camaros / Re: Sonoma Historics 2014
« on: June 21, 2014, 06:20:25 AM »
I get tickets to this event most years for free from friends. I live down the road a piece and have spent many hours out there over the years getting some good sunburn. Was going thru health issues this year so did not make it out. Watched the Javelin win last year like he does every year. Used to go out as a kid and run on the motocross track and a guy would come out on the track with a little ford ranger chasing us off. We would go around a couple corners, then raise the yellow caution tape and hit the track. Fun watching him bounce that truck all to hell and back trying to catch us. Over the years I have had some hot laps in a Sunbeam Tiger, 427 Cobra, '69 Boss 302 and the like. Ironically no Camaro runs. I was a Mustang kid, but always admired the '69 Camaro. Had a chance to buy a Gold '69 Z28 for $1,500. My Dad had the owner take him for a ride. When they got back, my Dad said no way is that going to be your first car. Settled on a nice '65 Mustang Fastback... but I digress.... Danny

Restoration / Re: Z28 drive belt
« on: June 14, 2014, 04:16:01 PM »
Funny how they say if you are not happy with their belt for any reason, just return it unused within 30 days for a full refund. How the hell would I know if I was happy with it or not... UNLESS I install (USE) it. Holding it in my hand for a few minutes, then say I think I wanna send this back?? Funny... Danny

Gotcha, but I was wondering when the cut-off was for the 326. Since this is a late in May assembled engine... would it still have a 326? Anybody know? ... Danny

Restoration / Which water pump needed for '68 Z28
« on: June 05, 2014, 12:40:04 AM »
This is a VO523MO Engine with an aftermarket water pump. What pump should be on this engine, and what is the acceptable date spread. I see numbers in Jerry's Book. But I am a little sketchy on the inlets and out lets, 1/2" 3/4", Bushing, No bushing, to late for 326?... Anybody got a picture of what it SHOULD look like... Danny

Got one that says "GM Overseas Distribution" Possibly the Netherlands. Bummer... Ya think this might have been a serviceman working overseas and ordered it up? The original Delivery Dealer = Dealer Code 1 Zone 21 . Anybody know what or where that is?...Danny

  WELL…
Things seemed to be moving along well. I went to UCSF on the 20th and took 10 pills as prep for tests the following day. Needed to have a low TSH level after my 14 day low iodine diet. In those 14 days I didn’t wanna cheat so I only had 2 cornuts and 1 pistachio the whole time. No other salts. No other dairy, salts, fish, bread basically anything in life that tastes good. Lots of baked chicken and lettuce wraps with avocado and tomatoes. And a few other things if you get creative. You can have meat with very little on it. No processed food, salt free ketchup and so on. So the lower your TSH count is, the higher the number. 30 and they won’t treat you, as you have obviously been cheating. 40 and they will treat you IF they can get permission from your endocrinologist. Sometimes they do, sometimes you have to start all over. 50 is ideal and that’s where you need to be to walk right in the next room and get treatment. I was 53.6, so I was good. They WANT you to go into Hypothyroidism so your body craves iodine BAD. Then drop the pills and they go right at the Cancer and kill it, attacking bad cells only. RAI treatment has been around for 50 years! So on the 21st, I went back to UCSF and had some blood work done and hemoglobin testes and the like. Then a CT scan where I could not move for 25 minutes while they took pictures of my whole body. WBS = whole body scan. RAI = Radio Active Iodine. Only can blink your eyes. Then went into the next room and had an hour long meeting about the difference between exposure and contamination. And blah blah blah… Then took 2 heavy doses of Radio-Active Iodine Treatment. Then run down the steps and out the door. Then left there fast and straight home to isolation at a friends for 7 days. No riding on buses, sharing a cab, holding babies or animals or being around a pregnant woman as it could kill the baby.
Went down for another scan yesterday to see progress. My endocrinologist called me today with good and bad news. Good news = there is no Cancer anywhere else in my body. As there was a time where it was in a couple other places. Bad news = Cancer is still very present in my neck and throat area. Meaning the treatment did not get all the Cancer. I asked her if the medicine will continue working and she said not likely, as it is at its strongest at 48 hours. Then down from 100% to like 6 %. Then hangs around for a little longer and that is it. 8 days later and I am out of isolation and no longer a threat to anyone. Which means it’s probably done working. It MAY still have a little left to help eat away some of the residual Cancer, but not likely. Surprising as they gave me a VERY heavy dose. Had to put it in 2 pills. 15 thousand dollars a pill that the insurance does NOT pay for. Good times eh… So back to regular life for now, whatever THAT is.. and trying not to stress out. Not easy to do for sure. I was really hoping she would say we had a zero tumor count. I guess they are not really tumors, that’s just what they call it as a whole. So I asked her to give it to me straight and she said and I quote,” It doesn’t look good, and I am very concerned. I thought it would be Zero, or at least a lot less”   End quote…
So no way to start more treatment right now, as the body needs to recoup. Then back to UCSF on August 18th to see where things stand and another WBS. THAT scan will tell her whether or not I start another RAI treatment in 6 to 9 months. Basically start all over again. ( Or pinpoint Radiation in Petaluma, CA. I guess they go in you and plant little chunks of Gold inside ya. Then zap THAT area and the gold keeps treatment close to the Cancer. ) If the masses that are left are too big, they do NOT do another RAI as it will do no good, and it’s straight to pinpoint radiation. I was told to NOT get my affairs in order just yet. I guess at least THAT'S good news.
That’s it I guess. That’s the short version. Next update after August 18th? Danny

Well tomorrow is the beginning of treatment. I will be dropping some test pills for scans and TSH and Hemoglobin levels. Then Wed. at 11am is more scans and testing levels to see if my body is Hypothyroid enough and ready. Then "Radioactive Iodine" Pill drop that same day at 3pm. Good times... NOT!!  Been on a no Iodine diet now for 16 days! Got about 10 more days to go on that diet. Killing me, I want a piece of cheese, bread, dairy, salt, salmon, shrimp...ANYTHING. I will take just a tuna sandwich, or a tomato and mayonnaise sandwich. ONE piece of bread!  After taking pill, full isolation for 7 days from any living being. Then a whole body scan on the 28th or 29th to see if we got all the Cancer, especially behind my Clavicle. I just went back and read all your past emails and got my self feeling much better. What a great boost seeing all that, as I really needed it. I appreciate it. I will have access to a computer, but not my own. I live in a 5th wheel and it's not connected to the sewer so no can stay here. Going to be at the girlfriends house, and she will go to the neighbors for a week. Boy she has REALLY taken care of me with lunch and dinner everyday for those 16 days. Lots of salads and avocados, veggies and SOME fruit. She really read that American thyroid association treatment cook book and made it happen. Whipping up and modifying anything she can to try and get some flavor out of it. Hours and hours of shopping and prep work. Anyway, she has a laptop I can use to check messages.
By the way, surprise... she seen me looking at cars online, asked me some questions and bought me a Camaro. Not kidding! When the title shows up I will share year, color, pictures and info. Car arrives in two or three weeks. But no info yet, ya gotta wait  ;) ;) ;D ;D

OK... so, please do not reply here. Lets save valuable space on this site for Camaro etc. related discussion. Here is an email address assuming ya wanna shoot me something. Take care, wish me luck, luv you guys... Danny

Here it is facing you and punched up a little in size. I think I see a 3 and a maybe 7 and possibly some other numbers in the smooth area of the pad. As it looks concaved to me. I would be SUPER suspicious about that no broached area. Just my 2 cents, I wouldn't buy it JUST cause of that. Factory regrind and stamp?? Danny

General Discussion / Re: 1968 Camaro Z28 without a Tach??
« on: May 15, 2014, 09:03:59 PM »
Think I might have found my own answer. Did more searching here. But please anyone chime in anyway with some more details. Or how many documented no tach Z/28's are in the database?

Gauges and spoilers were optional with the Z28 until April/May 69 when a tachometer became a required part of the package and spoilers became part of the package.
