General Discussion / Drag's at Infineon Raceway Friday 7/16/10
« on: July 17, 2010, 07:58:02 PM »
Hey guys, what a great night last night at the old Sears Point Raceway here in Sonoma. There was FIVE records broken during last nights Qualifying. SUPER track conditions and weather. Starting with Larry Dixon running a 317.79 MPH in Top Fuel. That was 3.839 seconds. That was cool to see as I had reserve seats  very close. Ear Plugs ALMOST didn't do the trick. Then Jack Beckman ran a 4.063 at 315.56 MPH in his funny car. And Allen Johnson in Pro Stock ran a 6.545 at 201.77 MPH! Then they had some Camaro's, a GTX, Duster, Studebaker truck, 70' Chevelle...... and about 20 other nostalgia runs. They were running some 10 second to 13 second times. Too much fun for sure as it's right down the road from my house. Hey Jerry M., I didn't see your car, where were ya?.....Danny

General Discussion / 302 DZ Engine... What is the best Cam to run??
« on: June 29, 2010, 03:56:20 PM »
Hey everyone, can anybody tell me what is the best Solid Lifter Cam to run in the 69' 302. It's going to be a stock engine with basic stock specs. Stock 186 heads no porting. I have seen many different ones, but thought it best to ask people that have built many of these engines. Would like to run new technology, and don't care to run the 30/30. Just what is comparible but advanced and updated. I was also wondering if it would be smart to run roller tipped rockers, but I heard they don't clear stock 69' valve cover's. Any help would be appreciated, as there is SO many Cam company's.......Danny

Car is dated 4th week of Feb. 69' like John Z's car. With a VO224DZ Engine build. Do you use the build date of the Engine, or the Car build date to match up correct Carb. And either way, how long should it be. I have heard 3 weeks before the engine build date, and 2 months before the car build date. What's the common practice???????????
Also, here is a question, Is Sat the 1st. of Feb. 69' considered the first week? It's a Sat., and they worked Saturday's. Sunday the 2nd. starts the second week. If a car is O2D, then that would be between the 16th and the 22nd? Right?..........Danny

General Discussion / Real or Fake Cowl Hood
« on: May 12, 2010, 09:03:46 PM »
After looking at the yellow pictures here on the topic of real or repro cowl hoods, I was wondering if there was a number some place. Is there any numbers on the underside of a real Chevy cowl hood from 69'? I am sure there is a thread for it, could someone post it for me? Or just reply would be great also. Thanx......Oh, and welcome back everyone............Danny

I have a 528 CCW plate and don't wanna throw it out if it's something cool or rare. It could be for a 72' six cylinder station wagon for all I know. I am going to replace it with a 532 CCW. Just wanna make sure it isn't something I should hang on to, or sell and maybe get a few bucks.........Danny

I was just told that there is NO X77 R/S Z/28's. And that all real R/S Z/28's had to have the X33 code??? And if I see an X77 car with that option it is fake. What the heck, did I not know this, or did I forget this info. Is this guy wrong? Am I losing it?

Also, could somebody please forward me the picture, or add it to this question of the yellow Cowl hood that shows a real Chevrolet make. It was on a thread a few days back. Someone was asking how to tell the difference between real and after market. And some one posted a side ways picture of a hood. It has certain lines in it that show factory make. I think it was yellow. I punched 20 different things in the search box and could not find it...Thanx guys.....

General Discussion / 69' Z/28 Distributor Date
« on: April 06, 2010, 12:03:13 AM »
Would a Jan. 20th 69' 480 Distributor be an ok date for a 4th week of feb. 69' build? That would be between 30 and 34 days. That's counting all saturdays and NO sundays. Sundays would add another 5 days.      And we're distributors installed on the assembly line?

Hey Guys, what should the date of the "YH" Rally Wheels be on a 4th week of february car? ALSO, how far or CLOSE should the dates be. A couple days ONLY between ALL 5 wheels, ok with-in 10 days? Exact match? I have seen some guys selling 4 or 5 wheels all with-in 2 days of eachother, some ALL the same day. Is this the way it should be?....Thanx......Danny

Camaro Dudes!!  Hey I just scored this steering box I believe is for a Z/28. Was just wondering what is the actual application? Does it fit Chevelle, Nova, Firbird ???
It turns stop to stop 3-1/4 turns. Actually about 3 and 3/16ths
When were they installed in relation to build dates?               So I can put fit's Nov. 30th 68' to Feb. 1st. 69' or ????

Numbers on Arm BOTTOM = NVD 1  J18      OCT. 1ST. 68 ????
Numbers on Arm TOP = 8770
Numbers on Adjuster PLATE = 5686555
Numbers on SIDE = 5691676 And just to the right of that is either a 106 or a 108. If I had to guess I would pick 108

Wanna throw it online for sale. Thought I would do a little market and information research first.

As always, Thanx for your time......Danny
P.S.
How do you insert pictures instead of having to click on a jpeg or ??...

Am I losing it or is this a restamp. The whole frigg'in trans is near smooth but RIGHT where the stamps are... I asked the owner and he got pissed at me and said no way. However he would not guarntee it in writing. Please look at the pictures and tell me what ya think. I think I see other old numbers...Danny

Could someone please send me the current VIN's for the surviving 1969 Z/28's. Or actually ALL first generation documented VIN's. I seen it on here a few days ago and I can't find it. It was a nice long list of cars currently on record. Want to check it with some cars I found and find out if they are in the registry. May want the non z/28 cars also if there is such a list. Thanx.........Danny

Hey Guys, anybody know why there is some car's that are equipped with the rear Proportioning valve and some car's that are not? You know, the one on the drivers side frame rail. I see lot's of car's with and without. The old story used to be that the car's that got it had A/C. And so the extra weight needed to be controled so the rear wheels would not lock up during hard braking. But that's on SS big block's and such. Z/28's never had the A/C on any of the 28,103 first gen cars. Why do I keep seeing some cars with them and some without? I met a guy back east who has 6 Z/28's all original. He might even hang out on this site. He said 4 of his car's have it and 2 don't. I just seen another car certified by Jerry M. in PA and it's ALL there, but has no valve. I'm gett'in pissed. What the hell is the deal with these valves. I also have seen them on some 68's but not other's. And if a 68' doesn't have it it scares me into think'in it ain't the real deal. Could Chevrolet really come up with this system and then just say to the guys on the assembly line... put them on when ya want? I have seen probably a hundred of 69's with it, and just as many without. Jerry never really decided to put this info in his book's??? It even show's it in the assembly manuals. Ok, I have rambled enough ???.......Danny

Well here is my collection. Trying to get the pictures to load. Ya think it is worth it to keep up the research on these? Trying to find patterns in stamping and hole sizes etc. etc. Worth the effort? Or sell them off and let it go?....Danny

Hey guys, just picked up a set of 3 Rally wheels from an old friend. Couldn't find the code in any of my books. Could it be they are AFTER 69'. Cause I have no knowledge of anything after first gen. Probably going to sell them and just wanted to at least know what they fit and how much they may be worth. Here is the letter and numbers. Any help would be appreciated.........Danny
