Restoration / 68 Camaro Tunnel 4 speed hole location with console
« on: April 19, 2013, 07:50:02 PM »
Hello all,
I am almost ready to paint the floors on my 68 SSRS and I repaired the butchered trans tunnel. I want to cut the correct hole for a factory style shifter and would like to know the correct location if possible. Does anyone have a picture with measurements or a car apart they can get me some exact measurements from? I found a pic for a 69 but isn't the 67 & 68 are different??
Any help with this would be greatly appreciated..
 Thanks in advance,
 Nick

Mike,
I don't know, that's just what they told me over the phone. I probably need too just drive over there and talk to them in person to get the full story. It's good to know other places are able to mix it and I have no problem ordering it from somewhere else as our local PPG place is VERY expensive. Heck, for what they charge here I could buy enough material too do 3 cars using TCP Global.  ;) ;D

Thanks again to everyone for your help on this, at the rate I am going I am still few months out until it's ready for color. when I get a little closer I'll let you all know what I come up with.

Have you considered using the single stage paint, and mixing in some clear in your top coats?   I think that looks much better than base/clear and closer to *original*, and still has a great shine once sanded and buffed out (like lacquer)..

Thank you, but after I shoot my first car with BCCC about 15 years ago, I have never looked back.  :) Honestly I just prefer 2 stage and since I do all of my painting out of my garage is gives me a more flexibility in case I run into a problem.
Thanks again for the suggestion,
Nick

Just let me know and a sample will be in the mail no matter when.  ;D

Thank you guys.

I saw that TCP Global lists it but after my PPG guy said he couldn't mix it I thought maybe it was a mistake on their website. I have painted a couple of cars with the Restoration shop brand, in fact two of them are shown in their testimonials, but I wanted to use better quality materials for this car.

I will call around and see if I can source a Dupont dealer in my area.

Thanks again & I will let you all know what I find out..

Nick, have a couple back up gas caps painted and would gladly send you one for any paint matching if that could be helpful.
Let me know and just PM me your mail address.

Chick,
Thank you very much for your gracious offer, let me see what I come up around here and if I still come up bust I may try and take you up on your offer once I get a little closer. It will most likely be spring before its ready for color.
Thank you again,
 Nick

I am not quite ready yet, but who is mixing Butternut in Base Coat? I called my PPG store here locally and they said they could not mix it in DBC only single stage or omni and the color would most likely be off. I really prefer to shoot the car in Base clear, any help would be  greatly appreciated.
 Thanks in advance,

Originality / 68 RS Rocker paint ?

I am finally back too work on my Butternut 68 SSRS 396 after a 2.5 year break and I was wondering if anyone may have a good picture of an original car that shows exactly where the tape line is inside the door jam that separates the body color from the satin Black on the rockers.
Thanks in advance,
 Nick

08B was skipped!! Johnz and Kurt and a few others on the site informed me of this.  You can find out aprox what day of the month your car was built by taking the last six numbers of the vin and place them in the slot. In Jerry's book he has a break down of what number cars were built in each month and I think the list is on this site as well.  They built a certain number of cars each 24 hour shift so you can break the numbers down ti find out what day your car was built.

Also in August is when they had to last minute extend the 1969 production due to the cancel of the new 1970 Camaro so check your car to see if some parts have older dates then the norm.     My motor is a May 30th build with may 26th castings date on the block putting a 2 month span where the norm is 1 to 4 weeks.    My heads are casting date May 27th. let me know what you find I did a tom of research and recently found my pastial vin stampings by the oil filter and posted the pics my last six are 672077

Thanks, sorry to dig this back but I just stumbled back on to the thread.

My 08C Z/28 is just 219 units before yours and also has a wide spread on the block. It was assembled on June 4th and has V0604DZ on the pad. It also has the partial vin by the oil filter that matches the car.  the casting date is E16 9, as were the heads if I remember right.
