Restoration / Re: Location of voltage regulator

MDZ what is the build date of your car? LA or Norwood ? just curious

And are you using the original radiator support, or a 'reproduction' replacement?

Restoration / Re: Repo RS vacuum lines
« on: February 24, 2022, 01:02:06 AM »
Are the colors any better or can you instantly tell they are repo when the hood opens ?

Here are my original vacuum hoses laying atop the CHQ package of repro hoses I purchased in 2012 (still unopened).  Other than the 'dirty' originals, the colors look very good and close to the originals.  It appears they've only gone up $7 on their price (less than 10%) in the past 10 yrs which isn't bad in these inflationary times!

General Discussion / Re: NCRS Shipping Data Report
« on: February 23, 2022, 01:57:37 PM »
Just received my Shipping Data Report, from NCRS. Some things don't quite add up. (Very Very small town, similar town names near me, conflicting dealership name)   Any know what Dealer code 343, and Zone 25 are. It's on my certificate, but wanted other people's opinions'

Dealer codes change only when the dealership ownership changes.
Zone changes occur whenever the servicing GM/Chevy Parts Warehouses change location.

PS.  The Dealer No for the dealership that sold my '69 Camaro is still the same as it was in 1969 (dealership ownership was passed down within the same family), yet the Zone number for that dealer has changed 3 times since 1969!

that first '8' should be the year I think...  did the month fall into the valve stem hole?

Your question is probably best asked (and answered) in the Team Camaro site, as that is where MOST of the modified Camaro owners spend their time; CRG is predominantly for *original* configuration Camaros.

General Discussion / Re: Disc brake conversion
« on: February 18, 2022, 08:36:27 PM »
Apparently he wants to do the brake upgrade with 'original' '69 Disk Brake parts (or at least original appearing parts), so his question really is:    Are the one piece rotors noticeably different from originals, or are they inferior in any way?

He wants to upgrade his braking capability of the car without using 'visibly aftermarket parts'.   If I were in his shoes, I'd be doing the same thing.

Wont be "original" if he uses 69 DISK BRAKE PARTS on a 68..

As I said go with the 1 piece cause at the end of the day the price difference isn't worth it unless your car was originally a disc brake car and you wanted to do a "correct" restoration..   Is that better for you Gary?

No it won't be a correct 'restoration' regardless, since his car didn't come with disk brakes.  But I can appreciate wanting to stay with period correct GM parts!

Note:  Many '67-68 owners with factory (four piston) disk brakes choose to convert to '69 disk brakes purely due to their simplicity and maintenance!

Maintenance / Re: Master Cylinder Rebuild????
« on: January 31, 2022, 01:38:29 PM »
I had my '69 Corvette Calipers sleeved/rebuilt by LoneStar calipers in 1989, and I rebuilt the MC using std OTS kit, and used DOT 5 in the system at that time, and I haven't had the first issue since.  The car only gets driven a few times a year, but No issues with brakes (and THAT is why I used the DOT 5).

The only facts different about your car is that you first used Dot3, then changed to Dot 5 (I think that is generally a No no with rubber seals/parts).

I also had WhitePost rebuild a couple of MC for me over the years ('60 Corvette MC around 1995) and my '69 Z28 MC in 2012; yes WhitePost told me in 2012 not to run Dot 5, but I did it anyway.  Without any info/data as to why I don't follow any/all 'suggestions' I get.. :)   Personally I won't worry about it unless I see a leak, and if I do, I'll buy my own seal kit and rebuild again with Dot5.

There are a lot of LA cars with no scheduling code. Not sure why. Maybe one of the other guys can shed light on it.

Here are a few more with no code (see below).

Ed

It seems 'logical' to me that cars that are ordered by customers/dealerships get 'scheduled' and have a scheduling code, whereas cars that are initiated by Chevroletor the  plant (to keep the plant running) would NOT have a scheduling code since they would be started 'immediately'...??

I didn't make that post hoping to find my friend a T10 (but if you fellas have one for a fairly early '62 Corvette then I'd pass along your information if you PM me).   My purpose in making the post was in hopes that someone here might OWN '68 Camaro with VIN 18L308432, in which case he would sell the Muncie and replace it with a more correct T10...

So does anyone here KNOW of '68 Camaro 18L308432??

Decoding/Numbers / Re: Correct Engine Pad Stamp?
« on: January 20, 2022, 11:11:15 PM »
So, even though the date code on the back of the engine is Dec. 6, 1966, the stamp will read Dec. 7 since that is on the protectoplate?
I assumed V for Flint Michigan would preface the date since that is where 8 cylinders were built. But since there is a T on the protectoplate, it was built in Tonawanda not Flint?

Yes.   The date on the rear of the block is the date that the BLOCK was cast.  The stamped date on the front pad is when the ENGINE was assembled, and that is what is shown on the protectoplate.

PS.  Tonawanda built std small blocks and ALL big block engines, whereas Flint built ALL the high performance small blocks (plus std small blocks).
