Is there a source for Rebuild Kits for the 'screwed on base' AC pump?  like a 4460 unit?

Is your car orange on orange houndstooth??  Mine is do not see them too often.

Yes, it is.  It's a 720 trim, 72 B code car, 09C build with 08/27 assembled engine.  all the mechanicals are original.  I'm trying to find the alternator that I removed in 1982 or so.. it's in my garage somewhere along with the original coil - I put on a Judson electronic mag in 1976!!  :)

I thought the interior was ugly when I first saw it in 1976, but traded for it because it was different and unusual (traded a very strong running and original '68 blue Z28 for it).  I guess the color combo *grows on you* because now I like it, and everyone that has seen it wants to buy it...  *S*

Here's a photo of my original interior (wear on the driver's seat, but otherwise good).   I plan to do some repair on the driver's seat, and maintain itin as 'factory original' condition as I can.

John is also a 'thread killer'...     once he has weighed in on a subject/topic, there is very little left to say!  His information is usually the 'bottom line'!    :)     I'm very proud to know him CPRL and from Vetteheads!  and now from TC and CRG!

OK.  :)   that image worked, so I'll try another with my door mounted mfg sticker... with the VIN.  My car has original paint from the cowl back (only front clip has been repainted, probably from a minor accident in it's early years;   I was amazed even in 1976 when I bought the car that the mfg sticker was still on the door!  since it's been sitting in my basement garage since 1980, the sticker is still there!   :)

I'm a little late on this thread, but my original unrestored Z28/RS is also an '09C' build week.  I'd love to see some comparatiive information for similar cars.   I'm also in the need of a set of correctly dated '186 heads', as when I bought my car, one head was damaged (a stud had pulled out and been welded back! ).   when I rebuilt the engine in 1977, I sold those heads and bought an almost new set of 'angle plug' heads - which were very hot at the time - for less money then rebuilding the ones I had!  (good deal then, bad for restoration!).  *G*  My engine date is also late August..  so I've been looking for mid-August 1969 dated heads.   I've several sets of '186 heads for ealrier in '69, and also from '70 yr for trade if anyone has date-compatible ones to trade.  Luke and John:  I'd love to compare data with you.  I'm attempting my first image attachment herein, but I don't know if it is going to work.

PS.  Re the relationship of casting to assembly dates:   My '69 302 in my camaro was cast one day prior to assembly.   I've got an original '57 Bel Air (283) which was cast/assembled on the same day (which I've always thought was amazing!)..

John is a VERY knowledgable with fantastic experiences and work history to lean on, but what makes him stand out from others is his commitment to helping others..  without pay...  or compensation.  I think he sees it as 'giving back'..   :) .  If there is a 'car heaven', John will surely be there !

The trim tag and vin number tag and paperwork is real.  I flagged the drive train as a restoration drive train in the report on the car.  I am not at liberty to post reports to the public or on a public forum.  This car was also judged at the Camaro Nationals this past summer in the "Bow Tie" class and scored a silver.  Car was nicely done but there were a lot of little things.  I can't believe that someone paid that much for the car with a resto drive train.  The X-ram and carbs were real though.

Jerry

Your comment 'I can't believe that someone paid that much for the car with a resto drive train. ' is interesting now that we can see you evaluated the car value earlier this year as 'between $100,000 to 120,000' ?  $125,000 is not a great deal more, and if the person buying it really liked it??   and Yes, the market is down but...      What valuation would you put on the car now, given the current 'market'??

I'm beginning to think I'm better off with an unrestored Z, even though it's no show car.

Jimmy V.
I agree with you JimmyV....   If your car is 'decent', I'd suggest keeping it original; in  my mind it's worth more than a 'restored car'.   I will keep mine original and only cleanup/detail where it's most needed.

I've judged cars at national meets in several organizations (CCCI, NNC, CNA, and NCRS) and in my opinion, for a *Restored Car* it's next to impossible (in most cases) to determine if that is the way the car came from the factory.  For such a restored car, you really can only evaluate the correctness and quality of the restoration!

Note:  Some people have used the term 'factory original' to describe the LV Green car.   That is totally incorrect.   'Factory Original' generally describes a vehicle that has NOT been restored, and is has very few 'changed' parts from the way the factory built it 'back when'...   In most cases, these cars show normal wear, but no restoration/modification/etc...   These 'factory original cars' are the ones we learn the most from because their owners over the years have not tampered with the car, only drove it.

Decoding/Numbers / PoP and component codes found in Sept '70 Parts book..
« on: October 31, 2008, 05:13:45 AM »
In doing a little digging thru a Sept 1970 Parts book (covering 1964-1970 Chevrolet passenger cars), I found very complete rear axle, trans, and engine codes for all Chevrolets (except Corvette) from 64 thru 70, and also a complete description of the data contained on the PoP's for each of the relevant years.   Is this data available online anywhere?  I know the Camaro data is available on CRG, but the PoP data seemed more complete and descriptive than what I recall from the CRG..

Originality / Re: 'late' '69 Z28 Valve Cover drippers
« on: October 31, 2008, 05:10:44 AM »
I checked the '69-70 Z28 valve covers I have. I checked 5 different covers; They were all the same; all had drippers and they had stamped inside the following pn's:
P-3932417-LH  (this number was on only 3 of the covers I have)
P-3965543-LH   (this number was on all)
P-3965544-RH  (this number was on all)

There were also come other numbers stamped :    'C-1'     and   'CBC'   (these numbers were not on all of the covers).   There seemed to be 'two versions' of the PN's....

I also checked the September 1970 Chevrolet Parts Book I have.   For the '69 -70 SHP 302 and 350, the numbers provided were:     3965541-LH and 3965542 - RH.

I'm curious if anyone has one of the 'non-dripper' VC they can check for the PN stamped inside?

The stamps on the axle and transmission look *TOO* good...   :)   and the photo on the engine stamping is insufficient for analysis, but it's pretty evident that the VIN stamp was not performed in a gang holder...  it *might* be good enough for a 'judging', but I'd be very doubtful that the drivetrain was the original one if I were appraising this car.

PS.  was there any difference in the two versions of the Report other than the note which Jerry placed at the bottom of the latter one?

when you 'sign' your name you are *certifying* something...  sometimes it's as simple as 'you are that person'.  At other times, you are certifying that certain information is correct...  ie.. your address, your ownership of an item, or that you are a resident of a state, etc...

When an appraiser 'certifies' his appraisal by signing it, he is stating (certifying) that he believes the contents of the report are true and correct to the extent he has stated it.  Apparently Jerry M believed that car to be correct when he did that report (from reading the report on KM's site).   A judging report on the other hand, simply states what is visible to the eye, and doesn't get so much into 'belief' or subjective knowledge.   It simply reports what the codes say, the colors, if they are correct or not, and then perhaps a subjective judgement as to condition, correctness, etc.   In this case there seems to be some confusion whether this is a 'judging report' (per specific restored Camaro guidelines), or an 'authentic Z28 Certification'.

I have appraised vehicles for 'out of town / out of state' purchasers previously.  I tried to make my report as factual as I could re reading colors, codes, conditions, etc much as Jerry's report does, but I also provided 'My subjective  beliefs' where I believed something to be 'faked'.    I suspect if Jerry had been writing the subject report for a 'prospective buyer' he would have been less reserved in his judgement and statements made in the report.   When I read the report, it *read* more like a detailed 'Judge sheet' than a Certification of authenticity...?

When the design changed, the part number should have changed.  I have early Chevrolet Parts Manuals (69-72 dated) at home which I can check, but I  haven't yet done so.  I will check and see if there is a 'date' associated with the change.
