Maintenance / Re: Parts to buy
« on: January 07, 2009, 08:01:40 PM »
If you can still purchase the part New, then it cannot be New 'Old stock'...    It should be the part as manufactured when the cars were new, but never used, which is now a discontinued item.    As John Z says..   *most* of the parts I see advertised on TC and by the Camaro houses/sellers is NORS or 'GM Restoration parts, NOT NOS...

I think that's Fred Ficarra's Hugger Orange '69.
Looks like 68 corvette bronze to me.
That's the color (Corvette bronze) it looked to me as well....

General Discussion / Re: 1969 302 DZ valve adjustment question.
« on: January 06, 2009, 06:22:14 AM »
I've always done my adjustments with the engine hot (warm), but not running.... ie. warm it up, then shut it down and do the adjustment....  you can do them one cylinder at a time, OR do the exhaust valves for the cylinders in FRONT of the one you're doing, and the two intake valves for the ones having just fired...  ie.   do that for cylinders 1,  3, , 7 positioned at TDC....  I haven't seen any difference when doing the adjustment this way, so long as you can properly keep up with the valves you've adjusted  (I suggest writint them down, marking them off as adjusted) ..  :).     To save time, the 3 engine positions and valves to adjust at each position are shown below:

1) Engine at cyl 1 at TDC:   adjust 1E, 1I, 8E, 4E, 7I, 2I,
2) Engine at cyl 3 to TDC:   adjust 3E, 3I, 6E, 5E, 8I, 4I
3) Engine at cyl 7 at TDC:   adjust 7E, 7I,  6I, 5I, 2E, 1E

(Note:  this procedure only requires checikng the  7- Int and 1-Exh valves at the cyl 7 TDC position, since they have already been adjusted.)

Mild Modifications / Re: Steering column swap ??

In my opinion, the 'nicest' customs are the ones which use later year same manufacturer components to achieve upgraded functionaiity in a very subtle fashion..   :    but I doubt you're gonna find the right guys in CRG to answer your question, since this site is mostly (totallly?) concerned with 'originality' issues.    I suggest going to TC to ask your question..

Yeah, my apologies to anyone who misunderstood...  I was shorthanding Air Cleaner with AC... thinking it would be clear.   I have a second original Z28 Cowl air cleaner with some extra dings on the bottom..  I'm trying to avoid canniabalizing that one to get the correct airhorn to fix my original one....

I have an original Z28 Cowl AC with the airhorn cut off.... so I need an airhorn that is right (an original one) not repro....  someone has said that any 4 bbl 350 AC from 69 has the same airhorn...?  Are there others that use the same airhorn?   My AC is perfect except for the missing airhorn....

Thanks guys!   :)     Reading all the new info on my Camaro on this site and TC has enthused me to begin working on my Z28 again (it's been 'waiting' since 1981)...
JohnZ:  NCRS is just gonna have to wait a while to get to judge that black '72 Corvette coupe I bought last year at Carlisle ...  :) .. you know.  the one with the wing and flares?  :) :)

So when were the P T and B marks put on?  and why?  they must have been applied at different times by different people?  after QA inspection of those areas?  or ?    and why would the cars be marked on both sides of the firewall?
