Re the 'green part' of my original column. Do you think that is where the saginaw applied black paint didn't adhere well? That column has never been out of the car, but when I saw the green showing thru the black paint, I cleaned off the black (which was very easy to do); I believed the spotty black that was on it was from my 'spray bombing' it black in the mid 70's which was at least partially true..

Hi Buddy,
I sent you a personal message re your manual. I was noticing your list of cars.. you have some nice ones.. The 99 orange SS sounds sweet (LS1?), as well as the 70 Z28. All those are cars I've *desired* at one time or another. I actually owned a '70 Z28 (orange) at one time, but stupidly sold it for lack of garage space. I should have built my garage more quickly instead!

Currently, my original RS core support is out of my car and I have an 'old' NOS one to compare it to, as well as an AMD reproduction (which is pretty good as repros go, but which does have a couple of small differences). The AMD is boxed back up (hopefully for selling to someone), and my plan is to clean and paint the NOS one and my original one (and replace the rusted bracket under the battery) before deciding whether to use the original or the NOS. I haven't thus far noticed any differences between my original one and the NOS one, but if someone has specific questions? Or if Ko Lec Tor can send some photos of the area he's interested in? I would be glad to make photos..?

Here are a few photos of my original '69 Z28 floorpan, after a bit of cleaning in this last year; it's not perfectly cleaned, but it's clean enough that one can see the various paints which hit the floor (before lying on my back for a few weeks cleaning with simple green, water, etc, it was 'dirt'... .
This car was never undercoated and spent it's entire life in the north Alabama area; it was driven regularly for 10 yrs or so, but since then has been in my conditioned garage. As you can see, it has areas of black, gray and color (orange) depending on where the overspray from body painting could reach.

I am going to blast it myself.As several people have noted, you have some *repair* issues on your subframe, and possibly your floor, before yuo get to the paint stage. The subframe should be removed to allow the repair process to be completed properly. Re color: The subrame was 'coated' or possibly dipped in a black semi gloss paint. I used 'GM reconditioning black' which I believe best emulates the factory coating, although better paints exist for maximum protection. The floor on my car has areas of 'gray', areas of black, and areas of body color (orange in my case). It's clear that achieving a 'nice even color' on the bottom of the floor was not a consideration. The first paint applied was likely for corrosion protection, and after that it seems it was 'over spray' from other paint processes. if you want your floor 'pretty', then you could certainly pick a color (gray, black, or body color) and make it all the same, but I don't consider that to be 'original'.

Is the height of the keylock boss on the 69 steering column *different* for the non tilt column vs the Tilt column? My car came with a non-tiltcolumn, but the space between seatback and steering wheel has shrunk significantly since I last drove it in 1980 ... , so I'm considering installing a tilt column. In comparing the original non-tilt and restored tilt columns, I found a couple of differences:
Height of Keylock boss
Attached are photos of the boss for the keylock cylinder on the two columns:
Non-tilt column, followed by the higher boss on the Tilt column:
Additionally, the paint color on the bottom of the steering column is different:
Attached are the bottom showing the difference for the Non-tilt (green paint), and tilt (restored black)..
Is it 'normal' that the height of the keylock boss on a tilt column is so much higher than a non tilt?
Is the 'green' painted end of my original non-tilt factory correct? Is the TILT end different and is the 'black painted' also correct?

when I removed my original carpet a few years ago, for replacement, under the carpet/insulation, I found a key lying there, looked 'new'.. with the little ring on it. I was initially confused, but quickly realized I found it right under the steering column.. so I tried the key in the ignition, and it worked! then I noticed the key still had the knockout in it! So I have THE ORIGINAL key, barely used now.. for the ignition, but not for the other locks. That key, and my pre-existing ignition key were 'E' code, which is correct for '69, but I just found new blanks to make additional key sets, and I learned that my trunk key is coded 'D' (which is not correct for '69, and makes me think the trunk cylinder was swapped out for a '68 lock and key). I don't recall doing this in the '70's, so it must ahve been done prior to my purchase. Is the key codes (ie. E and H) actually 'judged' in the national judging? Do I need to find a '69 trunk lock so I can have the correct key code (H), or can I just use a good '68 blank and grind it for the existing trunk key? damn.. the most simple things turn into an 'exercise' when you are going thru one of these cars..

Can a locksmith make a key from my 'keycode'? ie. the 4 digit code on the knockout? Do any of you know a locksmith or key dealer who could make me an original set of keys using the code?

Hopefully others will see this post and we can see how many editions were actually printed. Really has me curious now. Maybe we can add this information to CRG for reference?

What do you mean by 'having them made 'personalized'? You're modifying an original state plate for '67 by putting your own letters on it? is that allowed in NC? neat idea if they will allow it here in Bama.. I'm going to check. I've a friend who can cut out letters and numbers from old tags and put them all back together again to spell out new words..
