Decoding/Numbers / Re: 68 NOR build sheet

I have not heard of any being found.  If there were to be found I would look under all seats between  the springs or even under the carpet.

Don't bother looking in the seats - they were installed by Fisher Body, long before the Broadcast Sheet was even printed.

Did Fisher or Norwood Assembly install the carpet and the steering column??

based on uniform production rate, VIN xxxx N552638 would have been produced on the 1st production day of December (Monday, 2 Dec) whereas Kelly King's VIN xxxx557961 would have been produced either the 6th or 7th production day of December (9 or 10th), a week later, so if they were really hustling that first week or December, (to make up for the Thanksgiving day they missed?).. maybe Kelly's car was produced a day or so earlier than would have been expected - to put them into the same production week?

The ride height looks very correct to me (for a Z28), and I drove/rode/played with many when they were NEW, in '68 and '69 up thru '72 and later.   Danny, if you don't like 'stock survivor cars', find yourself one that someone has 'restored'.... :)

If I interpreted your values correctly, the difference seems to be about 0.020"  (20 thousandths) between the known untampered with 487 and the suspect 499 in the area of the stamped numbers?    I think that is MORE than 'crud/dirt'.. and probably is sufficient to remove the original numbers...

THAT is a gym dandy car...  :)   I love it.     I hope someone buys it who appreciate it for what it IS.. and not what it 'might be'...

General Discussion / Re: 1969 DZ BLOCK OR NOT...

A correct 'CE' warranty replacement engine for any GM/Chevrolet car, is better than any other replacement engine possible (IMO) as far as "originality" is concerned.  It's NOT the factory original engine, but it's what the manufacturer did to 'correct a mfg deficiency'.. (which is what a warranty replacement does)...

I agree with Tom; the DZ on the block only means something IF it is THE original engine for your car (from the factory)... otherwise, it's just a 'stamp'.   If you love the characteristics of the 302 engine, then build yourself a 'functional replacement', and forget the 'DZ' code.

Restoration / Re: Wiring

Around 1978, I saw a young lady driving a '69 Pacer, so I turned around, followed her til she parked it, and got the tag number.   At that time, one could call the motor vehicle dept with the tag number and get the owner info.   I called and spoke to her father, a local MD.  When I mentioned the Camaro, he asked..  'What did she do now'?  *L*.  I told him I had no idea, but I liked the car.  He told me she'd had a bunch of tickets in it, and he would sell it for $2000.   I talked to my wife, tried to talk her into it for her daily driver car as my '69 Z28 was orange/black with the pacer interior, and I thought it would make a nice 'sister/wife' car to my Z28..   but she (wife) refused to consider it, and at that time, I had no room or budget for another car to just 'sit'....   but I sure wish I'd bought it!  :)

Appreciate your offer, but I plan to use this one for awhile, patched and all, but I would sure like to find a correct reproduction.   I'm amazed if there is not one...?

I'm sorry about that thumbnail.  THIS is the image I intended to use to show the back textured side of the trunk mat.   It seems to be pebbled and is black.
