I wonder if they even got it consistent or *right* in the factory...   ..    since there's no factory spec for it, and it will go on in various locations, and RS and std model grills are a bit different..  (take yours off and then see if you can put it back in the same location!

If the factory (assembly plant) painted the delivered Kelsey wheels a different color, that would be the FIRST time I've heard of it.  when I saw that car, I assumed the wheels were painted more recently to match the car..  for some   oddball reason..

Is the Fisher Body Service Manual for '69 available online (free?)..   Someone posted a link for the '67 Fisher manual a while back, and I have that, but I cannot locate my hardcopy 69 Fisher body manual that I bought 37 yrs ago.. can't even remember when I last used it..      I'm trying to remove my door glass so I can clean/lube the mechanism and replace rollers (if necessary) and I do not want to remove/loosen any more than is necessary.   Can anyone assist?

If I'm not mistaken, the blower motor housing was more glossy than the heater shroud, but I'm not sure if it was 100% gloss or not, as mine is 44 yrs old...

It's a very *pretty* car, better than new in appearance... but the trim plate wasn't shown, nor any of the stamped codes, so who knows whether it's real or not, although the seller states it is...  (the stance looks good too)..

Welll, from my perspective, the underside needs to be 'restored/preserved'..  since so many body panels have damage, and some need replacement (under rear window) you'[re going to do a total repaint.   I'm sure the mechanicals need to be rebuilt, so that leaves only a question of the upholstery, which I didn't see enough of..  It's *mostly a 'restoration'*, and  if you go ahead and restore/preserve as each part requires, you'll probably be happier in the long run if it's all restored!

The last headers I purchased for my '69 Z28 (no PS), I had to remove the reverse lockout mechanism, which I didn't like to do, and now I'm still hunting in my shop for the lower rod that I removed at that time.    and those also 'hit' the floorpan at the collector which I didn't care for.

Which available headers for a '69 302 do NOT require removal of the reverse lockout rod?  and fit the best with the other factory equipment?

That sounds like a potentially nice car.  Early cars (as the one under consideration is) did not have X codes, but it sounds like the evidence is there for an SS/RS.   Re the SS hood, you can check the back corner of the hood, corner nearest to the driver, on the rear most edge of the side of the hood on the area where the metal gets more narrow for a 1 or 2 digit numeral.    Originally installed factory hoods received a stamp there for the 'WEEK' of the year they were produced.   For your October car, you'd expect to find a date in the 20s to 40 range...  that would suggest your hood was installed on a Camaro in the factory, and not purchased OTC...  and if the hood has the same orange factory lacquer residue under the blue as the rest of the car, would again suggest it was installed on that particular car in the factory.   Since there's no hard proof, you have to take all the little things you can find and hope it 'adds' up to an SS/RS.  Good luck!

PS.  Attach some pix of the car when you can..

I inferred that from your statements that the 'stock' Z28 sat too low.   Original Z28s SAT LOWER.. check the specks!   I believe you've looked at too many restored cars with replacement springs (that do not match the factory specs).. that's understandable if that's all you've ever seen.   I suspect most younger enthusiasts that have seen lots more restored Camaros at shows than they have original cars would likely think that.

The reason I asked that question, when I removed the original carpet in my car a few years ago, I found an original ignition key (right under the steering column) with the code knockout intact..  it seemed to be 'fresh' and never used..  after thinking about it a second, wondering how it got there and then had the thought..   HEY.  the ignition is right above where I found it!    I tried the key in the ignition and EUREKA!!  *G*.   it fit.    and I assumed it fell out between the installation of the steering wheel/ignition, and the carpet install, and no one saw it (or cared?) *L*

when I replaced the original carpet in a '57 BelAir sedan I have had a long time, under the rear carpet I found a 'paint can sock'.. with drips of 'Harbor blue'.. (the color of the car)..  Apparently the painter tossed the sock in after painting the car, and what did they do?     "Carpeted right over it"..  *L*

I did the calculations based on 21 production days in Dec '68, meaning 863/day..   Perhaps there was only 20 production days (extra day for Christmas?) in which case, Kelly's car would still have been 5 production days later.. ie.   6th day versus 1st day
