Decoding/Numbers / Re: 69' Z28 on eBay in DB ?

Obviously, the paint on that car is 'way over restored', and gorgeous, although not 'factory correct'..   but when I viewed the photos, the 'color' seemed 'blue' to me, as opposed to silver..   Note: my display is calibrated so that displayed colors are accurate typically.  That 'blueness' may have been in their lighting or their camera, but each time I look at it, it seem like a 'light blue tinted' silver.  (and I have a Cortez Silver '69 Corvette for comparison..)..  that car was photographed under fluorescent lights, which can tint towards the blue, so I've included one outside, and one inside of my car..

Restoration / Re: Paint stripping rear spoiler?
« on: September 13, 2013, 04:24:54 AM »
I've used 'Captain Lees' stripper on several corvette bodies; that seems to be the solution used by most when chemical stripping.  It's quick, esp on lacquer, and cleans up with water... (although you should always follow with a solvent or special cleaner to make sure ..)

https://www.halonmarketing.com/mall/Spra'%20Strip.php

Just spray it on, NOT in a windy environment, wait a minute or so, and then use a 'cut' plastic bondo spreader to scrape off the paint layers... (onto newspapers you can toss.. don't get it on anything else)..

Mild Modifications / Re: '69Z 302 - current header recommendations please?
« on: September 13, 2013, 01:35:41 AM »
The headers on my car when I purchased it also had no clearance issues with anything, everything was in place, but after sitting for many years, they were totally rotted, so I bought new ceramic coated headers..   and they DO have clearance issues..
I think the original ones were Hedman.  Are those still available? in the same design as original?

They have the first one 'sold/delivered' to the public, thru that dealer's anxiety to sell a car..  but it's likely NOT SN xxxxx0001...   As I recall, the dealers were supposed to keep them under wraps, and as soon as they were introduced, we began seeing many of them on the road almost immediately... at ~$1900 ..   everyone could afford one.. (and the six cyl might have been cheaper?)..

Originality / Re: PTB on Los Angeles Camaros
« on: September 13, 2013, 01:23:40 AM »
I've owned my car since 1976, drove it regularly for 4 yrs or so before I parked it in 1980, and always believed that stuff was 'restoration graffiti', until JohnZ explained to me once a couple of years ago what they meant and they were 'really put on the cars by Fisher body'.. so I went with a bright light and looked .. and.  VOILA.... there they were, and after I took my brake booster off the firewall, I found a 'second T' behind some of the components under the Trim tag.. (all on the driver's side)..  I never found any on the passenger side, even after removing the heater housing.

Damn, looks like a better version of mine. No clock and no standard steering wheel though. I like it.
'Prettier' isn't always an indication of 'better'..  :)

Dave - flat for Camaro production. 70 Chevelle had ridges and so do the reproductions. Here is a great thread over at TC to reference http://www.camaros.net/forums/showthread.php?t=54696
Brian
There are recent reproductions that are 'advertised' as 'flat bottoms'..... although I haven't seen them..

I really appreciate the information and help Phillip!   I've replied to your PM as well!

I've made a reservation at the Country Inn & Suites near the airport (opposite side of town from the speedway, but just off I-85 and on the side of Charlotte that we will be coming in on.  Hopefully it's nice enough, and right now they are running a 25% discount (next 2 days) which makes the rate much more reasonable.

I'll look you and your fella Camaro club members up when I get there on Friday... :)

PS.  if the show opens at 8 am..  what is considered 'early enough' ?   :)  7?    6?   :)

Originality / Re: X33 car, should it have black door sills?
« on: September 12, 2013, 03:11:44 AM »
the AIM associates 'black rockers' to the Z21 option..   that's right.  that's the exterior moulding package.. :)
Sorry about that.    RS is Z22...   Thanks for correcting me Steve.

Z21 is included with RS?  right?  so RS would have the black rockers as well?

I began making tentative plans to attend today, so I'm *hoping* it works out.   Any suggestions for where to stay or any other suggestions re  a first timer's attendance at that show?   I've wanted to go for years, but never made it.. thus far..  :)

Is your car a Rally Sport?   if so, I believe it should have black rockers.. (below the rocker moulding)...

I'd be surprised to see windshield and rear window mouldings scratched, dented or bent..   what from???   I'd think the typical *original/used* mouldings could be pretty easily polished to be much better and longer lasting than any reproduction (but, that said, I haven't done it on a Camaro, so...??)..
