My head shop repaired a seat for me once using that technique...   *S*   was my first exposure to that approach.

I just remembered the silly 80's flick with John Cusack "Better off dead". Has a cool 67 rs that gets fixed up. Love the scene where it rolls out of the garage.
That car has a WEBSITE!

A very nice website as well....  I enjoyed going thru it, now I've gotta find the movie and watch it *S*.   Thanks for posting the link.  :)

And, even if you decide to restore it, it would behoove you to take *hundreds* of photos of all the details, even the 'bad' parts, BEFORE you begin the restoration, to document the car prior to restoration.  you may think your car is 'bad' with the rust around the wheel wells, but compared to some of the 'restored' cars before they were restored, your car is extremely nice.. and that would make a big difference to me if I was looking for a restored Camaro!

Thanks for the note Mike,

I've seen that done (stitching)...  seems pretty remarkable... and time consuming..  :)
The welding would seem to be a less labor intensive approach, if it holds water..  :)

I have to toss in my 3 cents worth too! :)      Clean and Preserve the car, but don't restore... and take LOTS of photos of every detail to record the originality..

will that process work on a block that cracked from freezing?   when I moved back to North Alabama, after being in a 'non freezing' area for a few years, I drained a radiator in a car I hadn't driven, and found out later that I should have drained the block as well..   The cracks are across both the inside (the lifter galley area about half way up), and the corresponding outside of the water jacket area.   It was a 'prepped' block, and I hated to toss it, so I kept it... hoping..   :)

Originality / Re: Correct engine paint suggestions please!
« on: November 02, 2013, 10:19:29 PM »
I've never seen an exhaust manifold with that significant a paint coating, not 'back then,  nor even on restored cars.   I think the exhaust manifolds were installed, but there was no attempt to paint the entire manifold, in fact,I believe there was an effort by the engine painter to minimize paint on the exhaust (it burned off almost immediately when the engine was ran).

People (companies) attempting to 'reproduce' original manufacterer's parts do not have the resources (or probably anything else) that GM, Chrysler, Ford put into the development of their parts, processes, machines etc...  there's NO comparison!   It's actually pretty good that we have *any kind* of reproduction parts to use when we don't have the originals.. (but I still prefer original parts - even if they aren't as nice as they were 44 yrs ago).

Jim,

I think the same thing is true for all the Rallye wheels of the late '60's at least.    Gray paint was applied by Kelsey for 'service wheels', destined to be sold thru the dealerships, rather than production line parts.

Thanks John!   I also went to the link posted by Pete, referencing a prior posting you made where you said:
"Production-line wheels were received raw and oiled, dip-primed black, then the outer face was sprayed the required color with wheel enamel. "

If I understand that correctly, K-H delivered the wheels to each assembly plant unpainted, raw and oiled?  and THEN the assembly plant (Norwood or VN or ?) cleaned, dip primed black, and then sprayed the outer surface with the argent enamel?   Did this happen on the Fisher side? or the Norwood assembly side?   I'm surprised I missed this fact before, and it seems a bit odd to me that they didn't have the wheel supplier provide it 'ready to mount'...??  Or was that same process used for all other major body panels provided by suppliers?    supplied raw and oiled, so every metal part when thru the same cleaning/priming, painting step in the assembly plants?

My original 9204 booster, dated 199, on my 09C (Sept '69) Z28 has the larger font (I believe)...
