Decoding/Numbers / Subframe markings?
« on: January 08, 2014, 04:25:02 AM »
I was digging thru some photos today of photos I'd made when disassembling my front clip, and I came across and remembered finding a yellow ink stamp on the subframe (I think this was behind one of the frame extensions to the bumper).
The photo attached shows this marking.   Is this something that occurs on all of them?  Is this maybe part of a stamped part number?   Any comments appreciated...

General Discussion / MERRY CHRISTMAS !!!!
« on: December 24, 2013, 02:13:01 PM »
Does anyone have a RED and GREEN Camaro we can use as a 'Christmas Camaro'??  (actually I HOPE not). :)

Just wanted to say Merry Christmas to everyone on the CRG, especially the guys who founded it and keep it going, and who maintain it.. AND the people who so willingly share their knowledge and information and photos of their original cars and parts..  which helps all of us doing a Camaro for the first time..  :)

I hope you all have a wonderful Christmas and holiday season, and an even better 2014!!

Maintenance / Oil Pan leaks... ugh..
« on: December 03, 2013, 05:00:03 PM »
Do any of you fellas have a 'surefire' method of preventing oil leaks with Chevy small blocks?  I'm buttoning up a 283 for my '60 Corvette and I really don't want another chevy that 'drips' oil on my floor..  :).    Generally I use a very thin coating of silicone sealer on each side of the cork gasket at install, make sure that the pan rails are 'straight', and only torque to the specified level.. but sooner or later, all of them seem to leak.  Is it because the screws back out?  I've even put locktite on the threads the last few engines I've done....   :(
I'd welcome any suggestions anyone can make to have a DRY engine.   Do I have to use gorilla snot to do that (ie. yellow 3M super weatherstrip sealer...  which I REaLLY hate to use ..)..

Is a different pan gasket or frt/rear seals called for (as opposed to the std ones which come in the Felpro kits)?

Originality / clips and seal for RH side inner fender brace
« on: November 27, 2013, 04:08:29 PM »
When I disassembled my front clip, I found my driver side inner fender brace still had the seals and clips installed, but on the passenger side, the seal/clips were missing (maybe from a body shop repair early in it's life?)..  Does anyone have an extra original one for the RH side?  The brace was there, but not the seal with clips.  Does anyone reproduce the seals and clips?   Per the AIM, the part numbers called out for each is for a 'brace assembly', implying that the brace with the seals/clips is a single PN, but the only repros I've found have been for the brace only..  no seals or clips.   Any information on this part is appreciated..

http://www.bransonauction.com/node/3461

The link is for a 'restored' '67 Z28 (restoration aided by Jerry M. per the ad), that sold at auction in Branson MO last weekend.  Does anyone have any further info on this car?  Or what it sold for at auction?

Maintenance / maintaining doors...
« on: October 02, 2013, 09:06:24 PM »
I'm disassembling my door hardware to clean, lubricate, etc... and have some questions I hope to get some help with...

Which inner door hardware (regulators, guides, and latch mechanism') were installed by Fisher before they painted the door?  I'm suspecting it's everything except the glass.. but I've never heard or read anything about this, and I just disassembled my first one (and there is primer/paint overspray on some of the components??)

Is there a good source for an original or good reproduction outer door weatherstrip?  (goes along the top of the door, seals over the door edge, has a chrome/ss bead and provides 'whiskers' against the glass)???  If there is, What is the best source?

Is there a source for the plastic inserts which plug into holes in the door, and provide retention for the door panel pins?  (see photos)

Is there a source for the black 'masking tape' (what it looks like) which was used in the factory to tape down the vapor barrier under the door panel?  (see photo)..

Any information/assistance is appreciated...  :)

Originality / date codes on T3 lamps?
« on: September 24, 2013, 01:02:56 AM »
I bought a couple of T3 headlamp assemblies (to get the bulbs) this weekend, supposedly from a '69 Chevrolet.   When I got home and cleaned them up and inspected them, I note that they have a 'code' on the top front which appears to be a 'date code'.   I don't recall ever reading anything about the date codes, as there is a great deal of 'mis information' in general re the various T3 lamps.   Can someone enlighten me on this subject?   Are lamp bulb date codes 'judged' by the ACA?

General Discussion / Fisher Body manual for 1969
« on: September 10, 2013, 03:45:31 PM »
Is the Fisher Body Service Manual for '69 available online (free?)..   Someone posted a link for the '67 Fisher manual a while back, and I have that, but I cannot locate my hardcopy 69 Fisher body manual that I bought 37 yrs ago.. can't even remember when I last used it.. :)     I'm trying to remove my door glass so I can clean/lube the mechanism and replace rollers (if necessary) and I do not want to remove/loosen any more than is necessary.   Can anyone assist?

Maintenance / Remote Mirror bezel/cable removal??
« on: August 30, 2013, 10:16:22 PM »
Hey guys,  I could sure use some help/tips from someone who has removed a '69 Camaro remote mirror bezel and cable.   I need to remove my driver side door panel to adjust and lubricate my door glass mechanism, and I cannot see out how to remove the bezel from the remote adjuster; the bezel doesn't seem to fit thru the hole in the door panel.
I'm thinking there MUST be a trick, something I'm unfamiliar with and I do not want to destroy anything.. :)    The only potential means to remove it that I can see is to use pliers to release the cables from the adjuster, but there are three of them, and once released (assuming they will release as I imagine), I've no idea how I would get them back into the correct location.   Pictures attached for reference.   Any help appreciated, and Thanks in advance!

Originality / *original* 69 Trunk Mat ?
« on: August 28, 2013, 07:32:03 PM »
Are there any available reproduction trunk mats for a '69 that *match* the original mat?   I just ordered (and received today) an advertised NOS trunk mat (and obviously it was NOT NOS)...    It wasn't the same material, nothing was like the original.   My original is still in my car, but it has many tears that I've attempted to repair.   It is *thick* vinyl, and is a black on the back with a built in texture.   The top side is smooth vinyl, and 'simulates' the houndstooth look (but on closer inspection, seems to be more 'checkered' than the houndstooth pattern).

Is there any company making a viable replacement mat, that matches the original?

Originality / which Headlamp retainer is correct for 69 RS ?
« on: August 19, 2013, 08:25:05 PM »
When I disassembled my front clip and all the RS parts, I noticed the car had two different size (depth) Headlamp retainer rings.   These appear to be identical except for the depth, and both/either work fine.    One is approx. 13/16" deep, and the other is 1" deep.   Which of these are correct?   or did GM use both sizes interchangeably?   One corner of my car was hit before I bought it in the mid 70's, so I'm not sure if both these parts are original from the factory, OR not.  Your help greatly appreciated so I know which of these to replace.. :)   Photos are attached...
