Restoration / do back stripes change on 69z28 with vinyl top???
« on: December 14, 2009, 08:28:18 PM »
Hello
I am ready to paint my 69 z28 but, I have a noticed a few things that makes me question. I have a 69z that has a white vinyl top. My car is Lemans (71 code) car. I have noticed  and maybe this is just me but, on z 28 with out vinyl tops the strips on the back of the car go higher up ( or closer to the back window) than on the cars with vinyl tops. Is this just me being stupid or do the strips change depending upon vinyl or not??? I would think that the stripes would be the same but, looking at other cars I am thinking different.  ???I did not notice when we sanded my car down where the stripes started/stopped but, I the posts are still there where the chrome molding clips on the edge of the vinyl. Could anybody tell me the measurements of where the stripes are from the trunk lid up or from the chrome clips down? Thanks and look forward to hearing back.

Maintenance / 302 with close ratio steering box, finding right headers?
« on: December 02, 2009, 07:03:17 PM »
Hey Guys,
I am attempting to restore a 69 z28. I have the 302 motor with the close ratio steering box. I would like to put headers on my car. Do any of you have any advise to which set of headers to buy and where to get them from. I have talked to Dave headman headers and he said they do not make any to fit!?! He also said that any set that I bought would need to have some major adjustments made to them and that another problem is burning the wires off of the spark plug of cylinder #3. I was wondering what you guys have on your cars. Thanks in a BUNCH!!!

Maintenance / Re: 302 bellhousing and starter not fitting??
« on: November 16, 2009, 01:10:38 AM »
Hey Guys,
Thank you so much for your help. I have seen multiple 403 bellhousing on the net and I think I will just pick one up. Just one more question. What would a 621 bellhousing fit and why are they so much more in price than the 403. Thanks once again.

Maintenance / 302 bellhousing and starter not fitting??
« on: November 13, 2009, 02:44:14 AM »
Hello,
I am restoring a z69 with a 302 engine. I have a 3899621 bellhousing which should be the original to the car. I have a starter number 3664s which SHOULD fix this car. When I try to place the starter on the car the nose of the starter will NOT fit into the Bellhousing. I must be doing something wrong but, I can not figure it out. Has anyone else had this problem???  What starter have/do you guys use on your 302s or is this the wrong bellhousing?? Thanks for your help!!

Decoding/Numbers / Re: Fisrt time 1st gen buyer - VIN research
« on: November 10, 2009, 05:05:16 AM »
Hey Walt,
The more info you can post here the better we will be able to help you. Do you have the cowl tag numbers? The cowl tag is on the fire wall drivers side. With the cowl tag you can see what paint color, interior type, when and were the car was made along with some numbers off the cowl tag should match the vin number. You then can compare what the car has now and what the car had. Look forward to hearing more about your car.

Decoding/Numbers / 302 block numbers clarification
« on: November 09, 2009, 04:42:15 PM »
Hello,
I just need some clarification on numbers for a 302. I know that chevy made a number of blocks for a 302 in 69. I thought the block number 3932386 was made from sept to dec of 68 for 69 car. Then chevy changed the block numbers to the 3956618 from dec to april or so. Finally in april or so they changed the block numbers to 3970010. Is this correct and does anybody know why chevy changed the block numbers so often?? Also where does the 3932388 block come? Final question is would a car made in oct of 68 have a 618 block? Thanks a ton

For some reason I thought you needed a "hotter" coil/ amp and dist. You are saying the coil and dist that I have which is just the regular one will work? Thanks

Hello,
I am working on a 69 z28. I would like to put on a non orig crossram. Does anybody know what kind or where to get a dist, coil, and  wiring harness that would work that would not break the bank? Or what would the requirement be to make this work?  Also would I still need the amp? Thanks!!! Any other info/pointers would be helpful!!!
