Decoding/Numbers / Re: Body Tag
« on: September 22, 2020, 07:25:58 AM »
That is a 69 Camaro built at the Van Nuys plant near Los Angeles (hence the LOS in the body tag). LOS didn't use the X codes like Norwood did on their cars. It is my understanding that the "X" in your case would be the day of the month, and the 302 would have been the 302nd car down the line that day.

Congratulations on a nice looking car! While any original documentation is a bonus to have, the car can be verified without it. Too much to go in to here, but there's plenty of help available here to do that. Good luck!

Nice puddles of antifreeze on the intake, too. I'm no tag expert, but that one is obvious.

Nice looking car. Don't set it up for too much traction.... doubt the Muncie will like the torque of the 555 if she hooks good.

Amazing that all the paperwork has remained with the car over all these years and through all the owners. Not to mention that you've been in contact with all the previous owners. We'd love to hear the whole story on it.

Last I knew there was a set on a Z-28 in a Tennessee muscle car museum, sliver car as I remember.

Been 7 or 8 years, but I've seen that car. Floyd Garrett had it in his museum in Sevierville, Tn.

Sorry to hear that. These things are never easy, but they do remind us of what is truly important. Our condolences to you, your dad, and the family.

I think we all feel the same about thieves. Hang them high, and let them rot in the sun.

Trans-Am Camaros / Re: Unusual valve covers and intake ??
« on: October 06, 2018, 10:18:18 AM »
I think the valve covers have a FORD look to them.
That's the first thing I thought, too. I've never seen a set or those covers, either. Maybe a foreign market thing?

Decoding/Numbers / Re: Date code for distributor
« on: August 21, 2018, 10:15:39 AM »
From memory (please confirm), but a 489 distributor sounds correct. You'll want a distributor dated before Apr. 9th. That is the assembly date of your engine and they can't build an engine with parts from the future. I'd think any 489 built the last couple weeks of Mar./first few days of April would line up correctly.
