Decoding/Numbers / Re: Crayon behind rear seat X? Opinions please

4 leaf springs was a Z/28 only deal, but none of them had A/C, so that rules X3 out.

Rain makes grain.... and grain makes whiskey. We've gotten around 2" of rain since Saturday. Plenty wet around here for a while. I am not looking forward to the temps coming in the next couple of days, but at least it isn't going to frost. There's quite a bit of corn and beans up around here.

Good deal no one was hurt and the fire got stopped. Doesn't look like the helicopter will buff out, though. Got anything planted, Bill? I'm waiting to see what the weather does next week. Doesn't sound promising, though.

Ahhhh... the journey begins. Rest easy, Dave will take care of the car. It'll be back home in better condition than it has been since it was built before you know it. Don't forget to post a link for everyone to see once he gets into your car. Congrats!!!

(Heard of the welded frame rail brace above rear wheel that were only on z28's. true?)

Nope. That plate was used on all cars that had factory dual exhaust. Z/28s would have 4 leaf rear springs, so that is a good thing to check. A lot of stuff could have been swapped out over the years, so it's going to take some homework to figure out what the car originally was. Like said, start by posting pictures of the VIN and trim tags.

So are you in fort wayne Indiana?

You're right Bullitt, I am going to have fun with this car. Just about the time the weather straightens up, it will be home. I'm about 2.5 hours due south of Fort Wayne. The guy doing the car is in Fort Wayne.

Yeah, it was a good day.... except the weather when we got up there. I was really looking forward to driving this thing again after 12 years, but it just wasn't in the cards. The car will be home in a couple weeks, so it's getting close. After having this thing off the road for 12 years, what's 2 more weeks?  ;D Here's a picture or two if I can get it top work:

We made it through this last storm with only 3" of snow, and a skim coat of ice. Perfect for keeping the snow from drifting.

Engine is out of either 1970 Corvette 350ci 300hp manual trans or 1974 B body car 400ci 175hp 400 trans  Need to look at the casting date.

3970010 is a 4" bore block, so that rules out the 400ci engine.

Don't know for sure, but I'm thinking it is the manufacturer, and maybe Kelsey Hayes?

Originality / Re: Do we have a real SS in the garage?
« on: October 14, 2013, 11:18:45 AM »
If you don't have any origianl paperwork for the car, get the partial VIN stamping off the transmssion and see if matches the last 6 digits of the VIN of the car. You might post a picture of the stamp so the experts can confirm whether or not is an origianl stamp, or restamped. If it matches your car, is an origiinal stamp, and is a Muncie, it sounds like it could be an SS.
