Restoration / Re: Radiator Paint Chipping Off
« on: April 28, 2009, 08:17:18 PM »
Radiators were full gloss. Use epoxy primer first and then paint it. I generally don't shoot from a spray can but Rustoleum should treat you well. As far as superior adhesion a zinc chromate primer is best. No need to buy products from Eastwood. That's what paint suppy stores are for. They'll probably have your full gloss spray bomb too; although not Rustoleum. Mine does. My own radiator has 14K miles on it with epoxy as a substrate. No flaking.

I'm aware of the suspension data on my 67. My multis were added. I've romped on the car very seldomly in the past 25 years I've owned the car. But when I do the hop is annoying and a stock radius rod would please me more than traditional slappers. If of course it works well enough to justify it's installation. If not, the latter will have to suffice. Thanks.

General Discussion / Radius Rod Effectiveness

Is a 67 radius rod effective enough to warrant it's addition? I have come across one and would prefer it to traction bars. I have multis only now.

Thanks Rat Pack. I saw that page but it wasn't clear to me. Thanks for the help.

Now to find out about the throttle return spring. Seems it connects to some special bracket that attaches to the coil bracket. Not easy getting all this stuff right. Nobody seems to do much with the L48. I guess most Camaros came with big block engines and the rest were all Z28s!! Would love to see an original L48 engine compartment

Do you need that T.R. Spring Bracket? I may have one. Scott

Nope. You'll have to fab it. If you are putting the vinyl back on it's obviously easier. Pics would illustrate the severity of it's condition.

Thanks John. Apparently the finishes list I posted above is not the be-all end-all. Now I wonder what else is wrong on the list.

There's a shop over the border from Washington that packs high tech speakers into origional housing / framework that you may upgrade with if you choose. Better quality than the repo houses. Radio conversions and the like. I supply him with radios when I have them. Naturally there are other shops but this is just one. If you call / e-mail him he may fill your needs.

Nope. It just takes patience. Jerry M. says aftermarkets are easier, I've only done origionals. Seems a lot of people destroy them as you say.

Restoration / Re: Ash tray door paint

I have my local paint supplier deliver it. Paint supply stores carry it and I'm sure you can get it on-line. I guess guys buy suppies at TCP Global or Autobody Toolmart. Google SEM Trim Black #39143, you'll get info. SEM is nice but more money.

Matching is a loose term as it depends on the condition and/or paint used on the rest of dash. PPG9266 is just one I use (gun spraying) or SEM Trim Black #39143 which is available in aerosol and quarts. Rustoleum #7777. Krylon Satin, stick to the enamel based. Someone two threads down suggests Duplicolor at NAPA. Paint suppliers now mix anything you want in aerosol (if they are equipped). Whatever you choose, it "probabably" won't match perfectly.

i've never done it but I will. I work in any medium when required. Two sources I found are:
 http://www.caswellplating.com/
http://www.brushplate.com/brushplating.htm

Just punch in Silver cadium dichromate. You'll get more info. I'm sure someone on here has done it before.

Jeff the one I thought was like the Nova one you have is not. The mounting bracket is different but the socket wire is the same, on all the lights I have. Perhaps your boxed light is OTC?

how about this one - does this look like the right one?
been looking for a while. found this on a crashed 67 Nova a few weeks ago

I have one in my parts bin. I may put it on for the heck of it. Where does it plug in gentlemen? I do not possess a schematic.

This pic is of the non-string older GM WStrip. It illustrates how nicely it compresses. It's the same piece as in my previous post.
