Here is a picture of a photo the original owner of my '69 Z/28 RS sent me a few years ago.  It is a 01C car, was sold in Feb., 1969, and the photo was taken in Apr., 1969.  I can't imagine the grill emblem being moved from where the factory installed it with the car only being 3 months old from assembly date and 2 months old since being purchased new.  It looks a little high in the grill to me rather than being centered from top to bottom.  I'm just thinking that with the emblem being installed on the assembly line by humans, with no pre-drilled holes like sheet metal would have, the grill emblem might have been installed in a "general area" on the driver's side of the grill, on RS cars anyway.

I'll be praying for you, Danny.  Hope you have a complete recovery.

General Discussion / Re: 4053 DZ carburator

I read in an article in a car magazine or book that Holley rated the 4053 at 780 cfm and GM rated it at 800 cfm.  It didn't go into any further detail why each company rated the same carb differently.

General Discussion / Re: How long are you guys running your radials tires
« on: January 31, 2014, 11:44:15 PM »
I have been trying to find Goodyear Eagle ST's or GTII's (with raised white letters) to put on my Z but have been told Goodyear no longer makes them, or any raised white- lettered tire for cars.  Neither does Firestone.  Kelsey has reproduction Goodyear Steelgards (white-lettered) and I think Goodyear Eagle GT's with outlined white letters.  The Goodyear Steelgards very likely came on your '78 Z28 as original tires as they did on my '78 Z28.  The only tire I can find as a new radial tire with raised white letters is the Cooper Cobra Radial GT, other than of course the BFG Radial TA's.  Hope this helps.
I drive my cars a lot. To work, 10 miles from home, to meetings and on the interstate. I better change these tires out. I have always run BF Goodrich Radial TA's but would like to check out others. I was thinking about Good Year Eagle STs. I had them on my 78 Z28 in high school. Does anyone have any other suggestions? All ears.

Thanks

Lawrence

General Discussion / Storing Tires
« on: November 20, 2013, 04:59:53 AM »
What is the preferred or best way to store a set of  tires?  I plan on keeping a set of reproduction Goodyear bias ply tires in my cellar where they will not be exposed to any sunlight.  The cellar is also ventilated and not a lot of moisture accumulates even in the winter.  Is it best to store them upright not touching each other like they commonly do in tire stores?  Should they be rotated every so often?  Is it better to store them mounted on wheels than not mounted?  And if so, how is the best way to store the wheel-tire combination?  Stacked, upright, etc.?  Thank you.

To the best of my recollection I paid around $400 to have a set of 4 rally wheels sand blasted and powder coated.

When you guys mention scuffing the powder coating on rally wheels before painting them the correct GM argent silver what exactly do you mean?  I am guessing it is because the silver paint won't adhere properly to the smooth powder coating?  How much scuffing is just right and how much is too much?  Would you use a fine grit sandpaper to do it?  Thank you.

Originality / Re: Original Hurst Shifter or Not

A Dec. of '68 date code would line up with it being original to my 01C car.

Thanks for all your info guys.  It appears my shifter is original.  I said that the handle was riveted to the shifter, but it does look more like a shim on each side that locks in and holds the handle on.  The handle is round except for the flat part where the word HURST is on each side.  Here are some photos, hope this helps.
