General Discussion / Re: International Camaro Club
« on: April 06, 2016, 04:52:15 PM »
What ever happened to the United States Camaro Club? I think I may have joined that one around 1990 because I have that sticker.

It's understandable to feel left out when a club you belong to, but have no control over, gets sold out.

Remember when Team Camaro was sold? It sure seems like things changed a bit after that.

I also wonder what would happen if a big money was offered for CRG and they sold. That would be bad. Many people contribute to CRG believing it is an altruistic group dedicated to gathering and analyzing data for the greater good. And for the most part it is, but the reality is it's probably owned by one or more individuals and most of us have no control over it.

I'm only going by memory so I might not get this all correct or the dates accurate.  My memory isn't what it used to be for sure.  I joined the United States Camaro Club I think in the late 1980's when it was based in Dayton, Ohio.  They moved to Apopka, Florida sometime in the early 1990's.  They had a bi-monthly magazine called "Camaro Corral" originally which was changed at some point to "Camaro Enthusiast".  In the late 1990's or early 2000's they were taken over by  Classic Chevys (I think specializing in 1955-57 Chevys), which was then or soon became Eckler's.  I stopped sending in my membership dues soon after.  In my opinion with each succeeding move, the U.S. Camaro Club became less enjoyable and less of what I joined the club for in the first place, which was to connect with other Camaro buffs and learn more about all generations of Camaros.
Just to add:  the best Camaro club I ever belonged to was in the late 1970's to early 1980's here in California called the California Z/28 Association.  I don't know whatever happened to them, but I think they have been gone for decades.

I can't say for sure but I think that a F70 tire would convert to a metric size of 215 for the section width anyway.  I don't know about the diameter, but a 215/70-14 should work alright I would think.

I do too.  Newer cars offer very few exterior colors compared to the 1960's, and it seems like you can only get an interior in black or gray.  I would love to see the new 2016 Camaro with bright blue, white, red, tan or natural, and gold as interior color options.

My 01C Z28 RS built at Van Nuys did not have the trim rings.

General Discussion / Re: Would you pay more for a rare color?
« on: January 21, 2016, 05:27:24 PM »
Hmmm, I thought long and hard on this question.  It is hard to answer.  In the end I  would say that for myself I would not pay any amount more for a rare color.  I used to own a 1967 RS that was Sierra Fawn, that based on the chart was the rarest color in 1967.  I bought this car from the original owner because it was a one owner car and all original with only 48,000 miles.  The color didn't come into play at all for me.

I don't know if this will help any or not Danny, but I wanted to let you know about it.  Maybe you have already looked into it.  California has a program called Medi-Cal and branched off of it one called In-Home Supportive Services, commonly referred to as IHSS.  A person age 65 or older if found eligible for the program can receive services in the home to help with activities of daily living where a person of their choosing can be paid as their caregiver.  To be eligible a single person cannot have resources such as bank accounts, stock, bonds, any liquid resource in excess of $2,000.  Real property that is used as a home is exempt, one vehicle is exempt, irrevocable burial plans and a plot are exempt, life insurance can be exempt depending on the type and if any cash surrender value.  You would apply for this program thru your local county social services dept.  I worked for 31 years as an eligibility worker for these programs and retired 9 years ago now.  So please keep in mind that what I have mentioned above may no longer be correct as the regulations change all the time.  I hope all the best for you and your dad and my prayers will be with you both.

great pics. what is the knob opposite the gas filler?

I'm only guessing that it is a vent or overflow outlet for the gas tank.

I think another way to look at the optional wheel covers and the stats I posted in my prior post is that if you add up all the wheel covers and the rally wheels, but not count the P06 trim rings, and subtract this figure from the total of 1969 Camaros produced I came up with 81,598 that would have come with just the standard hubcap of which 2,401 of these came with the optional wheel trim ring.  This trim ring would have come of course automatically on rally wheels, I think, and not have been an extra cost option.

I know I can't find exactly what was originally on my car, but I'd go with the stats and buy the most common setup.

I remember seeing stats about the options/wheels sold, for the whole years. Anyone still have this information ?

I just don't want to put wheels that couldn't be there from the factory back then

I'm quoting from the Camaro White Book.  They list the following optional wheels and/or wheel covers sold in 1969:

N95 Wheel Covers, simulated wire------2,118
N96 Wheel Covers, mag style------------2,886
PA2 Wheel Covers, mag spoke style-----1,362
P01 Wheel Covers, bright metal----------106,386
P06 Wheel Trim Rings, use with standard hubcaps-2,401
ZJ7 Wheels, rally----------------------------48,735

Hope this helps.

Danny,

So sorry to hear the bad news.  I'm glad you and your girlfriend are alright, the kittys and the 4 cars and trucks too.  Hopefully everything that was damaged or lost can be repaired, fixed, or replaced even though it will take time.  Take things one at a time and it will work out; don't try to do it all at once.  I'll say a prayer for you and your girlfriend.

I can't believe it, I won.  I was just thinking that even with rather conservative driving I couldn't see any first gen Z getting much more than 12. something MPG.
Danny, thank you for running the contest.  I hope your computer and all info on it can be saved.  Since I don't really need any parts I'll take the AC Delco Batteries sign.  You can contact me when you can Danny.
Did I mention that I really appreciate this website and all the guys on it and the info they are more than happy to provide.
